I dont particularly like some of the one steps such as Fragile. I prefer the Kevin Gray, Hoffman and Grundman masterings over them most of the time when available.
I'm a big Reel to Reel guy and have many tapes from the Tape Project Ect. The One Steps have a sound profile the is closest to a 15 IPS tape that I've ever heard. Very dynamic, very hot and deep bass.
@@TheInGroove The other guys utilize all the dynamics as well in most cases. Ive heard tapes myself and MFSL simply EQs too low a lot of the time, giving that extra bass but slightly muffling other performances. Sometimes the tape is poorly done to begin with however and it needs an EQ adjust as well, not uncommon. So because it sounds close to it doesnt necessarily mean its the most realistic it can be.
I've heard two different hi-res needle-drops of Fragile and it sounds incredible. The bass and imaging blow every CD and SACD version I own out of the water.
You're probably the first guy in history to classify Dean Martin as a rock artist. LOL. Nonetheless, that's a great sounding album, probably Dean's best.

Strongly and respectfully disagree on the Yes “Fragile” one step. Awful bloated bass, dark guitars, vocals stuck behind a veil, no life or air whatsoever. The Kevin Gray-mastered pressing from a few years ago is infinitely better. Blood On The Tracks, however, is incredible.
Keep recycling the same old stuff. Press it at twice the speed and charge 3 time’s the price of something that is new from a new artist in their prime innovating. The problem with this is you have to have taste you can’t just sit around listening to some audiophile guy tell you what to buy. There are artist who make amazing music in their basement whose records go for thousands of dollars because it’s great not because it was recorded straight to disc. Or just keep buying dire straits and other “2020 rock albums” like dean martin. I’m sure it all sounds amazing they’re great artists no doubt. Just thought there might be some 2020 music in a 2020 list
Great list as always. Have the Cranberries, Elvis, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Alan Parsons, all of the Dire Straits and most One-Steps. Need to get Lou Reed, Doors.
Hi there, Yes, all of them are great but Love Over Gold is a demonstrator for HI-fi systems. I listened to it a few days ago. Awesome. Mobile Fidelity are the cream of the crop for sure. What is your take on Ultra High Quality CD's and SHM CD's. Do you carry them and sell them as well. Are these as good as SACD's. My experience if that the SHM CD sound amazing. I have different configurations of Alan Parsons Ammonia Avenue and the SHM CD that I got used from the record shop sounds the best. Thank the Lord for great sounding music. I grew up with vinyl; Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, ELP, Bowie, and I do have three of those listed, including an original 'Transformer'. But, when I heard the first UK demo CD disc issued to Hi-fi shops (there were no albums released on CD at the time) in the early/mid '80s I was knocked sideways by the sound. No crackles, hiss, pops, just pure sound. The first track I heard in the shop was Roxy Music's 'Avalon' and I was open mouthed all through it with the headphones on. I haven't had my turntable set up in a long while. It's overdue a run out and time I had a dig around in my boxes of LPs.
In Europe the only vinyl you can get in stores or webshops is digitally sourced vinyl made in EU. Impossible to find any american analog made vinyl, but you can buy japanese CD`s. Maybe it is logical because of economical reasons.
Wonder if an audiophile version of Transformer would change my mind on that record.. because I hate his post velvets stuff except metal machine music 🤔
I had the one-step fragile and did a few days of shootouts with a few early pressings I own. Aside from the deep thump of Squire's bass playing, I found it dull and kinda lifeless.

I'm think many will get done in the very near future.
This video did not age well.

I'm think many will get done in the very near future.
I love Dire Straits
Thanks for all the new videos. Could you do another Beatles pressing comparison?
I'm think many will get done in the very near future.
The 'In' Groove Oh that’s amazing, I love those videos and I think many others do too.
Deep Purple Machine Head on Rhino vinyl. A friend let me use his EAT E-Glo Petit phono preamplifier and I played Machine Head when I had it. OMG! It blew me away!
beatles let it be please :-)
there is alot vids out there like this but man Im a older gent 63 and to this day is heavily into analog.....always have been...reel to reel....lps......cassettes fuck no.....watched plenty ....Im sub right now.....you get it....thankyouthankyou
I'd like to hear your thoughts on Gino Vannelli's Storm At Sunup album. I think it's an audiophile-grade album, personally.
Hi there,
Yes, all of them are great but Love Over Gold is a demonstrator for HI-fi systems.
God bless and keep safe,
Tino
What’s the point of pressing a vinyl from a digital source? Are most “cheap” vinyls from digital?
I have just discovered your site recently. Have you ever listened to Walk Across the Rooftops ( Blue Nile) or "So" by (Peter Gabriel.). both remarkable albums on Record.
I love your videos Mike ! You go so deep in detail wonderful ! thank you very in4mativ peace from a german prince fan who is interested in The Police Sting and Peter Gabriel and all the 80 s stuff !
Spot on about the MoFi Records.
I know nothing about these .45 versions. Why are they so expensive? 50+ for that Skynyrd?
In Europe the only vinyl you can get in stores or webshops is digitally sourced vinyl made in EU. Impossible to find any american analog made vinyl, but you can buy japanese CD`s. Maybe it is logical because of economical reasons.
Wonder if an audiophile version of Transformer would change my mind on that record.. because I hate his post velvets stuff except metal machine music 🤔
I had the one-step fragile and did a few days of shootouts with a few early pressings I own. Aside from the deep thump of Squire's bass playing, I found it dull and kinda lifeless.
What about Prince plectrum electrum and Art Official Age albums from 2014.....
Do some people really have a problem with 45rpm records? Flipping the little switch on the turntable deck is really an issue? Lol
But will he be able to find my music when I release it on vinyl? I am the best rockstar now for my generation, thank you.
These all are remastered and pressed on new machines.
As if this promises anything good.
Thanks, but no, thanks.
Lazy people don't like 45rpm! Lol! Just kidding! 🤫
Maybe its a stupid question but is a flawless original pressing better than a MFSL pressing?
