  • NEW 5-Minute Crafts reaction: • The WORST 5-Minute Cra...
    I was pretty harsh in my critique of Five Minute Crafts when I took a look at their first-aid hack earlier this year, but since then they’ve put our some new videos with new hacks on how to keep your body in fighting shape. So today I figured I’d see if they’ve improved their medical accuracy or not. We talk about bee stings, bandaids, blisters in your heels, doctor’s visits, getting kids to take medicine, teaching children to wash their hands, headache cures, treatment for heartburn, sleep tips, cleaning your ears, back pain, anxiety, cleaning out your eyes, drinking water, cleaning your pores, and so much more. Which clips did I miss? Let me know down below!
    I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

      As a parent it is OBVIOUS Dr. Mike doesn’t have kids. If he ever becomes a parent he would immediatey have a different opinion than he has now. If I’m with my kid constantly I don’t need to bond with them 24/7. Being on a swing means I can get a couple minutes of some semblance of conversation with friends via phone.
      Only thing that mom did wrong is that she couldn’t swing her child AND look at her phone at the same time.

      Yeah, but that's kinda the whole point - you can't look at your phone and push your child at the same time.
      If it's not a work-mergency, or life-death situation, it wouldn't kill you to put the phone down for five minutes and fully engage with your child. For 5 minutes. Your social life will not collapse within that time.
      Also, I refuse to believe that anyone who has a child, or at least a child they acknowledge and care for would say "it" over "them."

    I have a hiatal hernia and i wish all i had to do to was switch my laying position during a flare up. It really takes a controlled diet, and medication, or surgery if it’s bad enough to control it. Also, it’s really hard to try and fall asleep at all when it feels like your whole esophagus is burning so laying down at all just tends to make it worse.

    About the lemon essential oil one: citrus essential oils contain limonene which dissolves rubbers and grease pretty well (was used to clean engines and bikes a while back). That’s why it pops the rubber bands. If you want to witness it you can peel an orange close to an inflated balloon it will pop if any of the oil gets in contact with the rubber!
    It’s pretty toxic and corrosive in large quantities or if it’s pure enough, like most essential oils though.

    • @kylascraftykhaos
      @kylascraftykhaos 2 роки тому +26

      The limonene makes a lot of sense. That's the one they extract from citrus for cleaning products and makes citrus less ideal for compost, right? ...I kinda wanna try that balloon experiment now, but I hate making waste with balloons.
      But I've also found that almost any oil I use in the ends of my hair will break those tiny elastics down overnight. Even just olive oil.

You could even make it more "fun" by having Ann try to figure out what exactly is wrong on the medical hacks, and Dr. Mike try to figure out what's wrong with the baking/cooking hacks. She recently had UA-cam take down her video warning people about the dangers of fractal wood burning, while leaving up the actual fractal wood burning videos she was warning about, so she could use a boost in viewership that could come from such a collab.

    Actually, getting the kid to pick the bandaid can be a life hack. If you need your kid to do something, telling "you have to do this" might end up with fighting, but giving them two seemingly different options that eventually lead to the same desired outcome will make the child psychologically think they made the choice and they will feel appreciated and feel happier about it. Even if it's just to pick whether they want a "grownup" bandaid or a Batman bandaid.

    As a nanny, getting rubber bands out of a child hair can be a nightmare! If I can't get them out without pulling on the hair I end up just cutting them. Some children don't want their hair done in general so if taking the hair out is painful they will not let you do it again! Also, the swing is called a spider webbed swing they are amazing and very common in my area, you can get one up to a 5ft. radius! They have been around the midwest for some time we have had one for 5yrs. now.

Having to teach toddlers its sometimes a nightmare to get rubberbands out of the hair and some kids just dont want you to try so its either try to negotiate with a toddler for 5 min or wait till they go to sleep and try. Also. why criticize a parent for making a job easier with the swing.

    Actually, I remember citric acid can dissolve rubber. So the mother could have also used a orange peel or some lemon juice.
    And also those rubber bands are sometimes painful to remove cause it pulls on the scalp.

    • @Navarp
      @Navarp 2 роки тому +2

      It isn't citric acid. Essential oils don't really contain acids (oils don't, generally, mix with acids.) It is an oil, in this case, a hydrocarbon that is naturally found in orange peels. When concentrated it is dangerous to human skin.
      Citric acid cannot dissolve rubber. (For much the same reason that oil and acid don't mix.)

    I like how the problem presented in the Swing hack one is that she's paying so much attention to the phone that she forgets to keep swinging the kid....and that the kid is close enough to get her attention.
    So the solution to the first part would be, put phone away keep being attentive and swinging the kid.
    But the actual problem is that your kid can physically alert you to their complaint because you're so close by, therefore, you need to get farther away from your child via the rope. The only part they chickened out on was having the mom back on her phone with the longer rope option.

    • @marzipancutter8144

      @@LycanKai14 But she's gonna have to keep remembering to do the swinging motion regardless of whether she has a rope or not, so if she swings the kid via rope and gets distracted by her phone, she has just the same problem. She also now has the added downside that she can't rely on haptic feedback to get the timing right when she's looking away, or at least it's going to take more concentration to get right, so she's losing the exact resource she's trying to save on.
      If they framed this at a lifehack where she wnats to sit down because her legs hurt, it would have been understandable, but as is, it's nonsensical.

    Hey Doctor Mike,
    I'm a Lifeguard with the YMCA and we do camps all throughout summer. We are all trained in CPR/AED and First Aid but we have kids that come in and have severe allergies that require an Epipen, but the YMCA does not have the training to administer Epipen's nor the funding to provide them incase of an emergency. Which means if a kid does have an allergic reaction and their airway started to closed up I can only call EMS and administer CPR [CHEST COMPRESSIONS,CHEST COMPRESSIONS,CHEST COMPRESSIONS!] if needed. My question is if you think we should look further into it and maybe find a better solution or if we should leave it the way it is?
