The Fall and Rise of Arizona State

- After Herm Edwards first season at Arizona State, there was a lot of excitement for what the future of the program looked like as many viewed them as a sleeping giants. But Edwards and his staff failed to learn all the NCAA rules which led to multiple recruiting violations that left the program in a disastrous place. After one of the worst two year periods in program history going 3-9 in back to back years, many expected the same for this year with Arizona State being given an over under win total of 4.5 with a brutal schedule. There was not a lot of hope heading into year 2 of the Kenny Dillingham era. That has since changed as Arizona State is off to its best start since 2019 and will look to go 4-0 for the first time since 2016 when they take on Texas Tech this weekend. This is the Fall and Rise of Arizona State football.

ASU knew what they were doing when they hired Kenny Dillingham as their head coach. From the Phoenix area and became a great offensive coordinator at big programs like Auburn, Florida State and Oregon. Plus Phoenix has been producing quite a few 4 and 5 star recruits over the years, so that should help take the program even further forward
As an ASU fan I loved how I was constantly hearing from sports journos about how the transfer portal + nil would help mid level programs, and then we immediately got pillaged for several NFL players, including a Heisman winning number 2 overall pick, and a first round wide receiver. 10/10 would recommend it was great trust me
Bruh mid level programs are literally in the worst position, idk what they were thinking😂 ASU is a historically good but not great football program. A decent but not huge cfb brand. But now, NIL and easier transfer rules have made it to where all of the great players at good schools would rather just move to an SEC team than help play their part to take ASU level teams to the next level. I hope I’m wrong, but it looks like NIL just took the parity out of an already less than competitive college football world. It would be like getting rid of the salary cap in the NFL. That wouldn’t help smaller market teams, because the smaller market teams don’t have the same amount of money as big teams to begin with
Oh yeah dude the idea that mid level teams would be helped by the portal and NIL never sat right with me, and it’s proven to be true. Honestly it’s really made it hard to follow college football. The year we landed Jayden and 2 other 4 star QBs, I remember reading tons of articles about the camp QB battle and things like that. Getting excited for where we would be in 4 years and such. Nowadays you can’t do that. If you get excited about a good freshmen your team landed, if he balls out, he is gone to the Big10 or SEC the next year.
@@gorillahackerman exactly! The only hope for mid tier teams is what happened with Skat. Hope you can get a really good underrated transfer from a smaller school. Because, like you said, recruiting great players straight out of high school will only end up with them transferring to high tier teams.
See even with Skatt the problem is still there. I love Skateboo, very happy to have him. But how does a Sacramento St fan feel lol? You had FCS Derrick Henry and now he is gone. Also I think New Mexico St won like 11 games last year and we took like half their defense. Like you can’t get to know the players and really root for them anymore. Just constantly one and done with Star players now
RAHHHHH GO SUN DEVILS!!! Awesome to see my team on one of these episodes
I fuckin love ASU! Best jerseys and mascot in college football. I have been a fan since the Osweiler days. I think they will be a powerhouse in years to come. This school has everything going for it. One of the most amazing campuses in the country. I’m from Columbus Ohio and I been to the shoe a million times and I went out to Arizona and I was super impressed with the city and the facilities. It’s hands down the best college campus I have ever been on. The locals say that it’s hard for the players to focus and win games there because the school is so badass and it causes distractions 😂 Edit: Love your channel, keep this up and thank you for covering ASU, IMO Big 12 football is the funnest most competitive conference in the sport. I got season tickets to Cincinnati this year just to be able to see all the Big 12 teams.
James harden went to Arizona state and it would’ve been fun to see him play football he was athletic
Chill😂
Wow. The glazing is ridiculous. ASU is alright.
Yo it’s just an opinion. But I could go on about how underrated Maryland is too. I’m just saying I travel to a lot of games and I can tell when programs are on the come up by the way they are investing in there program. The owner of Under Armor is alumni down there and he has donated millions of dollars and it shows. That stuff goes along way with recruiting. Arizona State was nice af. Clean. The night life was 🔥 I’m not glazing I’m just calling it how I see it. You get what you put into things and all I’m saying is Maryland and ASU have impressed me the last few years. I think ASU was set back by the Edwards firing and sanctions but they want to win and you can tell by the money they’re putting into the program. Also it’s in a really nice part of the country between California and Texas who year in year out produces some of the best high school football players nationwide. Warm weather. Call me crazy but they’re set up to succeed.
@@jewelsunniheartsfitnessanimeJason Terry? Ummm, he went to that other school down south.
Kenny has brought so much life back to ASU. Herm Edwards is within my top 3 most disliked humans because of how bad he brought ASU down. Absolutely 0 reason our 2019 team should have gone 5 losses with as much talent as we had. Jayden Daniels, Eno Benjamin, Rachaad White, Brandon Aiyuk, Ricky Pearsall, Jack Jones all on one team. Then he proceeded to bring recruiting violations upon us. Kenny brings us hope, especially by overly exceeding expectations in just his second year. Very excited to see where he takes us.
Another great video 👍 👍 Thanks Brother
GO DEVILS!!! In Dillingham we trust! 😈🔱
Basic formula... Recruit speed with a mean streak.
So happy to see my Devils doing well again. I attended during the transition to Edwards and it was tough.
Subscribing because ASU content.
Go put some money on them against Tech this weekend 💰
I'm telling you right now, Texas Tech is not gonna be a pushover. Not saying we can't do it, but what I am saying is, the other team gets a say, and not every game can be won.
Dillingham is the real deal. He’s going to be a legend at ASU.
It was an expectation to start winning games left and right but to have great football with fun games to form a new culture for the team/community
Love this! Go Devils! 🔱
Good video although you pronounced a lot of names wrong lol. Preseason expectations were garbage, anchored on something with no predictive power... aka last year's win total when we were so injured we couldn't practice or kick field goals and had to start a TE and a RB at QB a few games. My preseason expectation was 6-8 wins and I still think that's reasonable, though maybe I'd say 7-9 now depending on health. That's always the wild card. Leavitt has looked great though, I'm very encouraged.
Surprised to not hear anything about beau baldwin
the re-rise of nebraska is my favorite story
You mean rebirth
They always get near the cusp of being one of the top programs in their conference but something always derails it. The most impressive team was when Dennis Erickson was there. That defense was vicious.
or maybe when they played for the national championship in 96 and lost in the waning seconds to ohio state....affter going undefeated and beating Nebraska after they won two straight national championships! ...maybe was their best year!!! LOL
Finally, ASU getting some recognition
Then losing Texas tech lol
Great content, but man, the voice narrative is the same pitch for every sentence. Listen to each sentence spoken and notice how it’s the same pitch and tone gets so annoying
Kinda premature to make this video. Kenny has only been at ASU for 1 full season. It is neat to see the excitement he's bringing to the program but there is a lot more he has to do before you can say the program is truly on the rise again.
We literally already have as many wins as we had the entire last season. Is ASU on the rise nationally? No. But by recent ASU standards we’re on the rise😂
Finally, the ASU video ive been wanting forever🥲
Dilly gon win us a Natty
How do you make a video without having any of the details… edwards and asu mutually parted ways so edwards could still get paid by his former agent. Antonio pierce had an affair with daniels mom and she was the one paying for recruiting flights, not the school.
😂😂😂😂😂
Rise? You are joking right?
Dude, if you're going to make a "fall and rise" video make sure your subject is on the rise.
For a 8-5 7-6 team, that's not quite the fall.
cant argue with that! finished 3rd in the country in 86 and 96....other than that, mediocrity!
3 wins so far doesn’t constitute a video on the ‘rise’ of scum devils
It’s gonna be Tahj time for the team from Tempe. Mark ASU as 3-1 after this weekend
