I can not thank you enough. You literally saved me from buying a come along or getting someone to tow me out of a simple situation. Last traction one rear tire. Thought to myself no problem four-wheel drive. However pretty dumb that the light switch switches to four wheel drive but it doesn't actually engage. I didn't know about the dash line in a new light up. You save me from some money or embarrassment. Thank you so much. I watched 20 or 30 minutes video and it was just so convolution couldn't find the information I needed. All I need is your 3 minute video.
do a search on youtube for ford f250 hubs, you'll get a ton of vids to see what the internals look like. you can have your hubs rebuilt (cleaned and greased), new hubs from ford cost hundreds, or cheapies from auto parts store for about $40.00. i soaked mine for a few days with spray oil (just sprayed in the cracks around the outer hub the best i could), then they finally turned to the right using pliers. i think new ones you can turn with your fingers.
before i turned the hubs to the right, the truck was always in 2wd no matter what i did with the button on the dash. once i turned the hubs on the wheels to the right, the button on the dash worked.
be sure to get a good grease job on the truck so the drive shafts get greased up. when mine is dry, it won't go into 4low. lastly, get on a dirt road in the summer a few times, and put the truck in 4x4 high and low a few times to keep the stuff working. i think they rust up in the summer and won't shift in 4x4 high/low. i am no mechanic, but that is my understanding of how the stuff works.
the first time i had it checked, the mechanic i go to checked it out and said, It's fine." But later, I still was not getting it to go into 4x4. The mechanic did not understand, I had no clue on how it worked with the hubs...the button on the dash did nothing without moving the hubs. My neighbor, a semi driver, and a collector of old cars...I asked him about it, and he said, he did not know either, but he thinks it has something to do with turning the hubs on the wheels...once I got the word "HUBS," i knew what to research, and that lead to the video above.

I don't understand. Is straight up 2wd?
on the tire, the center insert is the hub. the hub turns to the left or right a few inches. right is clockwise is used for 4x4.
