  • This was a complicated project since the in ground door closer was blocking my cut from using an angle grinder or sawzall. These Bosch carbide blades to cut through a stainless steel door jamb cleanly with ease.

I've got a new house and need to remove a shower to meet city code. As with your subject here, I'm removing a legit 1950s galvanized steel wall shower. I was hoping to use an oscillating tool to cut around the fixtures and shower head and remove the shower before I have to cap off the plumbing. This is a great example. Thank you!

Nice video that gets to the point quickly. I need to cut some steel in a van that will be too awkward for a grinder and thought I might have to get a dremel rotary tool but now I will try a decent blade on the multi tool first. Thanks!

I work with hollow metal frames having to fix mistakes out in the field. I came to UA-cam looking to see how well multitools do on steel and what do you know, I find you cutting a hollow metal frame. Excellent video! Thanks!

We use a die grinder on our hollow metal frames and doors

I just used this blade a battery powered Ryobi oscillating tool to cut through a case hardened 5/8 inch carrier bolt. It took about 30 seconds but I noticed no dulling afterwards. Also... a very clean cut if I had needed it.

This is exactly what I need to do with the aluminum frame of sliding glass door. I guess I will give it a try.

Thanks, I have a question my understanding is that a carbide blade is best for hardened metals i.e. nails and bolts and Titanium is better for soft metal (aluminum) or wood is this right?"

So first to clarify the two types, carbide is extremely hard but brittle. Titanium is very tough but it's a microscopic thin layer bonded to a steel blade. There can be a very big difference in quality depending on the manufacturer, but you could probably go by the old saying of get what you pay for. But personally I like the carbide blades for stainless steel, but boy are they expensive!

@@UnsanctionedFabrication Thanks for taking the time to explain that. Since I am a homeowner/Handyman I don't have a big need for cutting metal but always want to have 1 handy just in case.

That blade cost as much as the harbor freight oscillating tool

Man. This makes the decision harder on getting an angle grinder or an oscillating tool lolol

Each has their place, if you're looking for something that remodel a home hands down get the oscillating tool, but if you're doing metal work you can't be in an angle grinder! Good luck with the decision I think I just made it harder, LOL thanks for watching!

Depends on what you're going to use it for. I was removing my leaf springs on my truck and ran into a bolt I couldn't get off and my angle grinder was to awkward to fit in the small space to cut it out. But something like this would have been perfect to cut the bolt out. But if I had this and needed to cut some other piece of metal an angle grinder would be faster and more effective.

Yeah , if it went masonry & concrete. I had a strong feeling it would go through stainless.

How long do you think one of those carbide blades would last on just standard 16 ga? Could you get multiple feet of cutting out of one blade?

    • @UnsanctionedFabrication
      @UnsanctionedFabrication  5 років тому +2

Yes you can, but it all depends how hard you push and if you can plunge cut from a corner or edge rather than the middle of the part. Thanks for commenting!

Use cutting fluid to speed up cutting and makes blade last longer

Wears gloves when showing the product... doesn't wear gloves when actually cutting, lol......... helpful video though. About to send a guy out to make a rough cut in a stainless kitchen top.
