I think that u shouldn't compare HxH to other shounen stories. HxH whole point is to divert your expectations. Gon looks like your typical protagonist, but he is way different and he did develop throughout the series. As the show went on, we are shown what happenes to a protagonist who is not a hero. Gon struggles fighting his opponents because they have way more experience, which is actually more realistic. Every power gon gained was earned and not given to him. His transformation during the Chimera ant arc wasn't a big surprise because we have always known that gon is a monster and he felt guilty about kite and snapped at pitou. HxH is an interesting show when u watch for it is and not try to compare to anime today because HxH was made to be always different
Hunter X Hunter is a bland Adventure story dog. It's not that deep. Subverting Expectations doesn't make a story good, nor does a Deconstruction make it better either. I think Togashi was just writing a story , and people looked to much into it. You can literally do that for any series 😒🤦🏽♂️
He clowns on Denji for being "down bad" but says that Zenitsu who is ALSO DOWN BAD is better than Gon. He talks about how Gon is a goody two shoes when he's FAR from it but Tanjiro is a walking dictionary for a goody two shoes. At this point i feel like he's trolling and no one can tell me otherwise.
Also your comparison doesn't work it's a bit more then gon just taking graphic content yes you watching a horror movie doesn't mean you are crazy or weird. The only time gon reacts emotionally angry is when it's friends and this is the build up to his crazy behavior because gon is willing to die for his friends on many ocassions and he shows it when he is ready to be eaten by killua's gaurd dog just because they won't let him in. There was build up to gon reacting this way. We had not seen gon lose anybody yet and how his naive mind handles that. so the trigger wasn't there but the setup has been there the entire time.

Meh hunter x hunter feels like it has more consequences all demon slayer does is kill of hashira's to give tanjiro and company shine (the upper ones the mentors) it's not any different master roshi or jiraiya dying to me only more then once this time. in hunter x hunter characters die whether they are a mentor figure or not. We even got antagonists killing antagonists. with the phantom troupe killing chimera ants, or with the stuff later on in the manga with hisoka. It doesn't even have to be main cast to catch a body on the villain's in hunter x hunter, because hunter x hunter is not afraid to give other characters big villians. That is why gon doesn't fight meruem or chrollo when they are the strongest in the chimera ant arc or phantom troupe arc. It's mentor character dying basically almost every arc. And then Tanjiro and company shinning. Also gon's nen condition is at least established power up. What about Tanjiro's fire breathing from his dad that he conveniently forgot about until he was about to die by rui? Conveniently remember a dancing move that you saw your dad do is more of a asspull then a nen condition that is already set up as part of the power system. As for the gon and kite stuff as i said the anime made that memory thing so they can shove in the flashback gon and kite do remember each other in chapter 185. And no Kurapika can not defeat every phantom troupe member with his power there is a reason why kurapika is trying to know their powers first, before he fights them which is why he interrogates uvogin. And there is a reason why kurapika never fights the troupe head on with gon and killua and they do sneaky tactics the reason being that kurapika would get his ass killed if he goes in reckless even with his power. As for Gon there is build up for his behaviour we see how reckless gon can get when it to people he cares about. There are several times where if a friend is involved in gon's mind he doesn't care even if he cna die from it like when he wanted to break in with the zoldyck's and get eaten by their giant gaurd dog. Yes Kurapika has build up because kurapika has experienced lost, kurapika has already went through that pain. That is the difference. And no meruem has way more reason for wo he is, being ill like muzan is not a reason to kill people lol and be a dickhead. That being Ill bullshit went out of the window when he killed the person that was trying to help how is that a reason? Meruem has a reason because unlike muzan he just got born he didn't know there were humans like komugi or netero. This is why Meruem has a change of heart because he finds the human potential in komugi and acknowledges potential in people like netero. He had not been on the world for even a year so of course his views on a human can change if they prove him wrong. Better characters I disagree I think hisoka better then any demon in fact even without backstory he is that interesting. I've had enough demon backstories about when i was a human my life was sad somebody put his hand up my bum and i couldn't do anything about it but then i became a demon. That is a asshole summary of every demon. Muzan does not have more personality at least meruem finds entertainment in things other then fights like games. Muzan is just a egoistical dickhead that kills his men and says he can do no wrong. Where as in even when meruem was a dickhead he acknowledged when what he was doing wasn't shit and ripped his whole arm. Don't forget what's in HxH most of the characters do not have a single dialogue except how to explain something. Great writing btw. This applies more to fans who go everywhere and talk about the current that there are no villains in Hunter. According to these people, the gang that slaughtered an entire clan or killed people at an auction for the sake of money are not villains. After all, HxH is so deep and adult in their head, it's a pity that not in reality.
Well HxH doesn't really have an obvious good or evil when it comes to writing characters and situations and tackling morally grey aspects within the story (especially for a battle shonen no less) deserves to be commended. Also besides wing and bisky I can't think of a lot of characters that are mostly used to explain stuff and hell even bisky still has a role in the story currently which isn't that.
+ Meruem runs on his instinct at the beginning more than anything else. But because he is also part human, he developes a human way of thinking and reasoning. I thought it was pretty obvious but that didnt stop Trig from coming with that hot take

I have a master's degree in Comparative literature. Hunter x Hunter's writing is nuanced, intelligent and and sophisticated. It definitely has its flaws but Demon Slayer is one of the worst stories I've ever encountered. There's no character development, the worldbuilding is terrible and the dialogue is so amateurish it makes the show almost unwatchable in places. Actions have no consequences and the plot feels contrived and meaningless. Demon Slayer also rips off better works left and right. The animation and the voice acting are brilliant, though. You're definitely right about basic stories sometimes being just as good as complex ones, and I'd say HxH can be pretty basic at times but it's still enjoyable and it actually takes character work seriously. Demon Slayer is not just basic, it's bland, gauche, artificially sentimental and overall extremely incompetent as a story.

Two 10 year olds nearly escaped the heavily hyped vetaran warriors on multiple occasions then just when you thought the Phantom Troupe couldn't get any more pathetic. The Phantom Troupe actually let Gon and Killua go just like that. There is plot induced stupidity and then there is this garbage. In one Arc. Gon got a power up into Adult Gon through power of friendship. His dead friend Kite came back to life out of nowhere so Gon wouldn't have to feel sad. All of Gon's injuries was healed by Deus Ex Machina called Alluka. Its poorly written and constantly contradicts itself. Basically Fate Stay Night syndrome. The Heroes constantly gain new abilities when its convenient. Gon suddenly gaining a massive power up into Adult Gon out of nowhere because he wanted to kill Pitou. And no excuses. Kurapika had to train for months to get any kind of contract. And even then it didn't give him a power boost. Killua suddenly gains his new Godspeed ability out of nowhere when its convenient for him. When the Ortho Twins were about to kill him. Rammot is proven far superior in both speed & strength to both Gon & Killua on at least two separate occasions. Then all of sudden Killua has a power of friendship moment and one shots Rammot after taking out Illumi’s needle. According to the fandom the theming of nen is that every battle is a complex game of strategy. That kinda goes out of the window when the main character gets a new power up out of nowhere that makes him a hundred times stronger and allows him to one shot a previously invincible enemy. Now assuming you aren't a troll and you don't respond with childish insults to criticism. Clearly Nen is flawed as a power system. Because similar to Fate Stay Night and A Certain Magical Index. It makes up over complicated rules but similar to Shirou Emiya or Touma Kamijou. These rules are usually thrown out when its plot convenient to the main characters. That's why its not the masterpiece that the elitist fanbase thinks it is. The nen vows don't really make sense though. One Kurapika had to train even with nen vows. And all he got was one new ability Chain Jail which still had limits. For example against Uvogin. Kurapika still had to fight at his original power level. He won by outsmarting his enemy. On the other hand. Gon's power up came out of nowhere. with seemingly no limitations. He didn't train for it. For example against Pitou. Pitou killed Kite easily. Terrifying Gon and Killua. Then out of nowhere, Gon gets a massive power boost out of nowhere that apparently puts him on par with Meruem and allows him to one shot Pitou. An enemy previously massively stronger than him was one shot by his power up. I mean isn't that a bit too convenient. Too bad Netero couldn't just use a nen vow to one shot Meruem. Netero was planning to die anyway. See what I mean. Seems like Gon is getting special treatment. Two apparently every nen vow comes with consequences. Gon's nen vow was to sacrifice his life. But he didn't die. He was basically ill for a few months at most then came out perfectly fine and Kite came back to life. He came out with practically no consequences. Then there is Killua who got Godspeed out of nowhere to save him from the Ortho Twins. And Kurapika's Emperor Time pretty much came out of nowhere. Togashi didn't have to introduce a villain with a insta kill ability with no way to block or defend against the villain's attacks but he did. Then he gave Killua a new ability out of nowhere to win an otherwise impossible situation. That is bad writing. Togashi literally wrote himself into a corner then wrote in a new plot device ability to save the main character in an impossible to survive scenario. That's bad writing. If this was any other series. The Hunter X Hunter fans would be crying plot armor, asspull & power of friendship. We never see Kurapika do any training for his Emperor Time. So it can probably be assumed that this is a passive ability. Call me crazy but if his entire clan had such an overpowered ability. Then how did they die? That's what hundreds of warriors who can use every type of Nen freely against 7 mercenaries at most. That should have been open season for Phantom Troupe hunting. There's also the fact that Kurapika didn't even know what Nen was until Izunavi taught him. So kind of a big plot hole. That Kurapika somehow knew about Emperor Time which is a nen based ability that comes from his clan when all of his clan members were already dead. So where did Kurapika learn of Emperor Time. All of his Clan was already dead a long time ago. He didn't even know about nen before he met Izunavi. The Phantom Troupe who hunted down Kurapika's clan didn't know about Emperor Time or anything similar. So it can assumed no one in Kurapika's clan used Emperor Time while they were literally dying by the hundreds. Kind of a massive plot hole. It was stated that the many red eyes of all of Kurapika's clan were taken after their deaths. Meaning they had access to all of the abilities Kurapika has. Gon & Killua escaped through plot armor. They didn't outsmart Nobu. The Phantom Troupe idiotically let them go. Pakunoda walked out with Gon & Killua unhandcuffed and not tied up towards Kurapika. And they had no guarantee that their boss was safe or unharmed which he wasn't. It didn't serve thematic purpose with any decent writing anyway. It was just poorly written asspulls that made no sense and Gon's power up outright broke previously established rules. That makes zero sense. It was not set up or foreshadowed beforehand whatsoever. It is an asspull that came out of nowhere. Gon magically came back to life when the author randomly wrote in Alluka as a deus ex machina. Kite also came back to life out of nowhere. Gon clearly did not sacrifice anything. He went right back to original age and original health after Alluka healed him. Gon got an omnipotent asspull with literally no drawbacks or consequences. It makes no sense why Netero or anyone else mentioned this technique or tried to use this technique themselves. It does not make any sense. Godspeed was not set up or foreshadowed at all. Killua was about to die against a broken ability then he randomly pulls a new ability out of his ass that magically perfectly counters it. There is no excuse for this kind of garbage writing. Source : Hunter x Hunter 2011 Overall Episode 58 That is not how Nen Contracts work. Nen Contracts for every other person in the series had to be set up & prepared beforehand. Kurapika used a nen contract as well. He didn’t get a power boost. He had to set it up the nen contract beforehand. The Nen Contract gave Kurapika one special ability and that was it. And that was a Nen Contract that Kurapika actually put his life on the line for. If he broke the Nen Contract. He died. Meanwhile Gon breaks all of the previously established rules. He pulls a massive power boost out of his ass. Then he one shots a previously invincible villain. There was no set up, no preparation and no foreshadowing whatsoever. If Nen Contracts are that quick and easy to use for massive power boosts. Then why didn’t Netero use a Nen Contract to defeat Meruem. Its clear that Gon’s Transformation was a poorly written asspull. Gon did not sacrifice his life. Gon goes to the hospital for a while. The poorly written deus ex machina Alluka is written into the story to bring Gon back to full health. Then Kite comes back to life out of nowhere. There is no excuse for this kind of garbage writing. It is a deus ex machina. There were zero consequences for Alluka healing Gon. It is just a massive asspull with no foreshadowing or set up. Gon is magically healed back to full health by deus ex machina. That is a fact. Kurapika had a lot more hatred than Gon since his entire family & clan was killed meanwhile Gon barely even knew Kite. Yet Kurapika couldn’t pull a massive Power Boosts out of his ass. Even though Gon should be 1 in a million in terms of potential, he still loses fights and has no epic fighting scenes, because he's still learning and it's an actually logical progression. While with tanjiro, he became the most important character in the whole universe, why? Nobody could beat an upper level demon for 100 years until he came around? Also the fights are litterally the characters teleporting behind him and a drawing of his slashes behind him, all the fights are the same, the demon shows off his skill, the good guys adapt to it and defeat him. Tanjiro getting a power up for no reason at the end. Character depth? Saying tanjiro is better than Gon, because he has a sad backstory is wild? Tanjiro is basically a copy paste of Gon or even Deku, nothing original about him and every single character and his mother has a sad backstory. It's not hard to make a backstory. The powersystem of DS is just predetermined moves that have no benefit over another one, they're just different type of slashes. While with nen you can have a power that fits your personality, you could litterally make up one. With the nen powersystem you can make up power systems that are present in other animes, like killua if he had a sword he could recreate electric breathing technique.( and not like the made up breathing techniques, because again they're just slashes, nothing hard.) It's a bit disingenuous to compare a finished manga series, with a manga that's still at it's beginning stages (if togashi was healthy). Also a bit disengenuous when you say only thing hxh has better is world building which is very hard thing and should've been easy for demon slayer as the minimal world building we did get everything looks the same.

I disagree with the points you made about kite and gon. Sure their relationship wasnt so close but that wasnt the driving point of his revenge. He was lashing out at pitou out of guilt, not grief, which is also a direct result of his motivation in the story. The arc pretty much beats you over the head with this fact. Also that shot at 6:53 is filler and has no bearing in his character lmao I also disagree with the arcs being bad (other than the election arc) or pointless. Specially not pointless considering that what happens in a arc always leads to things happening in a following arc and important things being introduced. Other than that i agree with some of what you said, like the issues with consequences, or the side cast barely being fleshed out, which i dont think disqualifies them from being well written, but they need more focus and attention. Wish i could say something about the demon slayer comparisons but i havent seen the anime lol
How could you say that a character is well written when you don't know about them? Also greed island Arc was absolutely pointless, not the mention the start of Chimera Ant Arc. The climax of the arc was good but the setup took so long it started to feel boring. The most character development I felt was of meruem, we saw a whole change in his ideology.
@@Error-yh3xr greed island introduces the kids' hatsu, justifies their strength and expertise in future arcs by serving as a training arc, shows the reason for chrollo getting healed, takes gon to kite, and gives killua and gon development. How is it pointless? At least narratively and mechanically it serves multiple purposes. Its not even a deviation from the main goals because ultimately Gon needs to beat it to reach either Ging or Kite.
I would agree on everything except Gon's development. It has always been there. Subtle but it was there for a kid living life on a happy-go-lucky island getting a crash course on the world and its cruelties. He is truly a kid in mind and heart. His biases against killers that he likes (Killua and the murderer he trained with on greed island) and the phantom troupe are based on a kid's understanding.

I couldn't really pin down exactly why it's been so much harder for me to feel invested in HxH, but you hit the nail on the head. It's the characters! I would happily read/watch a spinoff starring literally any character from Demon Slayer. Inosuke, Mitsuri, Obanai... Hell, the old lady from the Wisteria House! Goto the Kakushi, even. The got damn cat Chachamaru! Any of them. But the characters from HxH? I don't really care about a single one of them. 😅

I got to admit that I also watched hxh too after it finished. when demon slayer came out, I was a bit curious and when ep 19 out bro had my jaw dropped, let's face it ds ep 19 was the best things that came out in 2019.
But every dinosaur is dead in the ground and ants are thriving to this day. Maybe you'll get 2 more chapters before Togashi takes another 3 year break.
Chimera ant arc is better than all of demid slayer. HxH is a series that deserves its praise and the reasons why people say its overrated is because there are only generic stories today. HxH is meant to be different because it is a deconstruction of anime and it can't be compared to demon slayers normal storyline
That's your own opinion their could be more people out their thinking there's a certain arc in demon slayer that better than the chimera ant arc and actually make a case for it.
HxH is my fav. anime of all time and I've never seen Demon Slayer so you've motivated me to watch the show now. I disagree with your take on Gon not making sense with Kite (or characters not being developed in general). The fact that Gon could get away so many times led to him having a false expectation of consistently winning a fight. When he realizes that there is no bringing him back you see him blowup, he was able to come back from getting his arm blown off with Genthru, fighting the Phantom Troupe, fighting Hanzo. The biggest trump card of his persistence led to his friend's demise. As the show went on, Gon did mature but it was subtle. A lot of the development characters get when interacting with Gon is subtle. I understand though that the pacing wasn't for you which is something I can't change. Tbh I don't think I want any backstory for Silva, Zeno, Bisky or some other characters. I don't really care much about them. It's just like irl, we don't need to know their past or what made them who they are now just to "get along" with them. Like coworkers for example. The creator of hxh has serious back problems so bad he can't take a dump properly but he still finds ways to TRY and pump out content. The creator of demid slayer confirmed that she rushed the whole thing which makes sense as to why the story sucks. I'd rather wait years for an author to get better than have a rushed and awful story.
I love both Hunter X Hunter. In HxH, there are some moments that bored me to death. Some of the episodes feel like filler while DS was just straight to the point. No unnecessary scenes, no flashbacks, no unnecessary explanation, just straight to the point. DS did what other shonen anime failed to do.
That doesn’t make it good. It just means you have a short attention span and need constant fight scenes and action to be satisfied which is fine but that doesn’t speak on the quality of a show because so many people can get past those “oh so boring and long winded” scenes in anime like Hunter X Hunter

The only 2 solid written characters in HxH are Killua & Kurapika and even they have flaws. The rest are just random looking npc's with half a** character progression

It makes sense in that arc because the story doesn't rely on the protagonist fixing every problem or being in the spot light in situation which hasn't to do with him

what happened in chimera ant is not surprising imo. It was said before that he sees the world in black and white. I think there's a scene wherein a character commented that he's somewhat a monster/dangerous around York new arc iirc. Because of how he see things.. something like that Kite is very influencial to him. He was the catalyst to Gon's journey and is the link Gon has to find Ging. Gon also mentions Kite several times across diff arcs iirc. He also blames himself for what happened to Kite coz he thinks he distracted him. So I could still see why he snapped. If that's not enough reason for you, it's up to you. I agree about what you said about the others like spiders, zoldyk family, etc. But with hisoka, I hope we don't get one. I'm okay with it being left as a mystery. His appeal comes from his mystique. At best what Togashi can do is drop some subtle hints and leave his past up for interpretation. (iirc another mangaka wrote something about hisoka backstory and Togashi likes it) I also agree with chimera arc and York shin arc being the best XD I'm not a fan of the other arcs esp the Zoldyk arc 😂 Ofc I'm bias towards HxH been a fan since the 1999 anime. Um yeah nah bro normally I like your videos but you are really pushing it with this one. Hunter x Hunter has a wide variety of characters, some have major emotional arcs that change who they are while others stay mostly the same throughout. That's not bad writing that's Writing 101. Don't believe me? Look up the difference between a flat character and a round character then get back to me. Demon Slayer on the other hand has some of the most safe, bland, and predictable character "development" around with hamfisted backstories to try to make you care about characters right before they die and done to death hero's journey shenanigans that's been done better it literally hundreds of stories. Also the villains have little to no development until they die where the author tries to make you feel sorry for them with a last minute flashback whereas Hunter x Hunter prefers to define a character by their actions/interactions in the present which is way more effective. Lengthy flashbacks are a crutch for writers who lack the ability to properly define their characters in the present. Hunter x Hunter's "villains" on the other hand don't just exist to make life difficult for the main characters, they have lives and goals beyond that which even sometimes results in them working with the "heroes" of the story which is more than I can say for Muzan's crew who only exist to kiss his ass and kill demon slayers and rarely ever display much independent thought. The world building in Demon Slayer is literally nonexistent whereas Hunter x Hunter goes to great lengths to explain how the Hunter Association and the world around it operates. Hell the author of Demon Slayer never even comes up with a good reason as to why the Demon Slayer Corps isn't recognized/sanctioned by the regular government despite tons of demons running around slaughtering people in droves. Like wtf Oh and everything about Nezuko makes no sense and the story seems to go out of its way to sandblast every chance at development that poor girl could get in favor of making her a cheap deus ex machina to bail out Tanjiro whenever he's in trouble but also never too effective so she might end up overshadowing him or his two homies. The fact that she's not even present for the final battle with Muzan and only arrives at the end to TNJ Demon Tanjiro back to the light side proves how atrocious her character is handled. And Nen >>>>>>>>>>>That inconsistent ass breathing system and stupidly op demon arts that range from super effective to completely useless for no reason. So yeah you're dead wrong on this one and it's not even up for debate. It's like arguing Fairy tail is better than Dragon Ball, utter lunacy.

Hxh is not focusing in gon and killua only, thats why yorknew and chimera arc is lacking them. its about hunter you can read manga how togashi dispose killua and gon after the anime
That's the whole point of Gon going off on Pituo is because nobody important died and it's because he hasn't experienced any hardship is why he blew up when someone sorta close to him and beneficial died
Rengoku and Obanai weren't really fleshed out to be fair when from "I agree kill the demon girl and the boy" "set your heart ablaze young kamado ofc I protected I would always protect young demon slayers" and obanai is a strict asshole who is a love interest for mitsuru
They literally showed Rengoku & Obanai's backgrounds & what lead to them hating demons & them joining the Demon Slayer corps. They even have offshoot chapters of the author giving Rengoku & the other Slayers more screen time

@@TriggeredSenpai aight then, since you asked imma give you some: the main cast of hxh(gon, kite, kurapika, leorio) are all given a solid amount of characterization the moment we meet them. Their goals and the reasons for chasing those goals are perfectly established with their backstory and doesn't neat around the bush with the characterization. Meanwhile in the DS anime you don't have that lvl of layered characterization (which isn't a bad thing, I just find it lazy and boring) not to mention the main cast(tanjiro, inosuke, zenitsu) are basically the generic cookie cutter characters you see in a lot of anime(which isn't rly all that bad, I just find it boring and predictable.) Also nezuko is pretty much just a cutesy guard dog if you think about it. She doesn't have a personality at all. Replace her with a bloodthirsty, loyal, obedient blood hound and it wouldn't really change much. In fact, it might even make the story more interesting. The power system in hxh is also leagues better than ds(in which the "system" is basically non-existent) if you understand it. Each hatsu ability is derived from some part of the characters' personality. Gon is impulsive and childish so his ja jan ken reflects that part of his character, killua's lightning ability makes sense if you know his backstory etc. etc. Every characters' ability has some sort of weakness and limitation that a character can exploit if their smart or strong enough. Even netero, the strongest nen user's technique has a weakness. He just seems unbeatable because he's trained all his life. You don't see that lvl of complexity in ds. The power system feels more like fighting style or techniques. There's no system or a series of rules that determine how a breathing technique would work or what weaknesses it would have. They're just flashy techniques or fighting styles imo. Breathing itself could've been considered as a condition that's required to use the techniques but then tanjiro uses it under water, where you can't fucking breathe. The techniques also seemed to require years of training to use them properly but then the asspull with the sun breathing happens in ep 19 which immediately broke my assumption of the unspecified technique requirement(The blood demon stuff seems more interesting tho). These are just a few and I still got some more but imma just keep it short for now

Listen there's some decent criticism in this vid (and I love HxH) but when you compare the arcs you have to take into consideration how long and short each one was. Like chimera ant is 61 eps/133 chapters so if for example that arc was just meh but greed island or 13th chairman election (both arcs which I'd say are C+ and B respectively, not D or F) it would be a lot worse for the story considering the amount of time put into reading/watching it.

I personally think 2011 is the worst version of HxH. The first arcs are just rushed and not as well done as in 1999. The chimera ant arc might be good but the infodumbs by the narrator who states the obvious are awful. And the ending was utterly stupid in how Gon met his father and how his disability was just wished back as if we are watching Dragon Ball or some bullshit.
Shockwave demon leiterally had barely any development, he has backstory then essentialy commits suicide. The demon at the buttom right side at 4:22 has barely any development till they die, like no one has any reason to listen to their backstory when their gonna die. Zenitsu has one of the worst developments, somehow he has a fellow appretice like him who became a demon and he acts serious then after all is done, literally goes back to how he was before that all occured. I would also like to highlight the lack of development for snake hashira, love hashira, and fire hashira who had their backstories told the moment they die or for the fire hashira, he literally had 1 movie for development. But Kite and Gon relationship isn't the best

Demon slayer is not my favorite show and neither is HXH but I would happily choose HXH over Demon Slayer any day. The Demonslayer story to me is just so… I guess basic,I honestly don’t know how to describe but it’s really wack and the amazing animation is the only thing keeping me awake while watching this.
Agreed. HxH is 10x more interesting, in that 1) we really have no idea where the story is going, but there are SOO many possibilities that can happen with the characters they introduce and the mysteries of them. It's not your typical "MC trains hard to defeat bad guy" story. 2) HxH stands out from other shonen anime because there's such an amorality among all the characters, even the main cast. I like Demon Slayer, but the story really is basic...a guy trying to turn his sister back to normal and has to defeat the Bad guy to do it? That's basically the plot to FMA. Although FMA was *really* good, so I won't judge DS to hard.
Hunter X Hunter is a basic adventure story if we're using that logic. 98% of Anime & Manga is basic story concepts that have been done over & over, and fans try to make one story seem more special than the other because of biasness. If I were looking for a Adventure, I'm going to Dragon Ball, One Piece & Naruto before I go to bland ass Hunter X Hunter. That series lacks flavor & effort with a incohesive story And if we're talking about all of fiction, like Movies, TV Shows & Video Games, then HxH is really nothing special at all. Comparing that bland sh*t to Bioshock, Monster & Ozark is f**king laughable.

Agree with this video. I think HxH has a ton of potential, but sloppy execution imo. Whereas Demon Slayer is a simple concept executed perfectly. Like, Kurapika COULD have been interesting, but they stopped his character development midway and did the Chimera Ant stuff instead... I know nothing about the Phantom Troupe besides Hisoka and Chrollo. Kite SUPPOSEDLY had a huge impact on Gon's life, but we never saw it, same with Mito. Leorio just kinda... leaves the story before anything interesting can happen with him. Honestly just feels like an unfinished mess. Moments of greatness but really shabby execution.

He complains about the phantom troupe not having a back story and refuses to read the manga or just look up if they did get a backstory in the manga and for Gons development in the chimera ant arc if you pay attention to the story you see time after time that there is hints towards him going down the path he took and also the 2011 anime cut the kite flashback because they didn’t know if they would make it that far and in the manga Gon talks about kite all throughout the story
I did read the manga. Chrollo got a backstory which was hella mid & the other Phantom Troupe members weren't fleshed out as characters. They were just there and the execution on both Gon & Killua's development was super contrived. I payed attention to the story. Just because I don't accept half-ass writing doesn't mean I didn't "pay attention" to the story😑🤦🏽♂️

I really didn't. I made it very clear. *Demon Slayer's characters have more depth *Demon Slayer's fights are better. HxH fights are extremely 1-sided and boring to watch *Demon Slayer's story is a lot more consistent than HxH's & has more entertaining arcs than HxH. HxH at best has 2 good arcs (Chimera Ant & York New) *Demon Slayer's stakes/consequences are better than HxH. Demon Slayer actually kill they're major characters. HxH pussyfoots around a lot. And no, Netero is not a major character. Kite was a major character, but he died and came back to life *Nen is a more creative power system, but it ruins HxH story and allows weaker characters to beat stronger characters they have no business beating. Demon Slayer's power system is more grounded, which helps it stay consistent with the story. It also allows for more strategic fights because Demons are naturally stronger than the Slayers, and they have to find a way around that *HxH has better World Building, that's about its

There’s also a lot of strategy depending on the battle like Gon vs the bomber or Killua vs those two dart Chimera ants. Lots of battles in the series are also close and not completely one sided but that adds another layer when it is like against the royal guards coming up with creative ways to get the jump on them because they lack power. Most of this is just subjective so you can’t say for sure it’s a bad series but if you’re being genuine about this then I’ll respect your opinion, no matter how trash it is

I think that u shouldn't compare HxH to other shounen stories. HxH whole point is to divert your expectations. Gon looks like your typical protagonist, but he is way different and he did develop throughout the series. As the show went on, we are shown what happenes to a protagonist who is not a hero. Gon struggles fighting his opponents because they have way more experience, which is actually more realistic. Every power gon gained was earned and not given to him. His transformation during the Chimera ant arc wasn't a big surprise because we have always known that gon is a monster and he felt guilty about kite and snapped at pitou. HxH is an interesting show when u watch for it is and not try to compare to anime today because HxH was made to be always different
Hunter X Hunter is a bland Adventure story dog. It's not that deep. Subverting Expectations doesn't make a story good, nor does a Deconstruction make it better either. I think Togashi was just writing a story , and people looked to much into it. You can literally do that for any series 😒🤦🏽♂️

Meh hunter x hunter feels like it has more consequences all demon slayer does is kill of hashira's to give tanjiro and company shine (the upper ones the mentors) it's not any different master roshi or jiraiya dying to me only more then once this time.
in hunter x hunter characters die whether they are a mentor figure or not. We even got antagonists killing antagonists. with the phantom troupe killing chimera ants, or with the stuff later on in the manga with hisoka.
It doesn't even have to be main cast to catch a body on the villain's in hunter x hunter, because hunter x hunter is not afraid to give other characters big villians. That is why gon doesn't fight meruem or chrollo when they are the strongest in the chimera ant arc or phantom troupe arc.
It's mentor character dying basically almost every arc. And then Tanjiro and company shinning. Also gon's nen condition is at least established power up.
What about Tanjiro's fire breathing from his dad that he conveniently forgot about until he was about to die by rui? Conveniently remember a dancing move that you saw your dad do is more of a asspull then a nen condition that is already set up as part of the power system.
As for the gon and kite stuff as i said the anime made that memory thing so they can shove in the flashback gon and kite do remember each other in chapter 185.
And no Kurapika can not defeat every phantom troupe member with his power there is a reason why kurapika is trying to know their powers first, before he fights them which is why he interrogates uvogin. And there is a reason why kurapika never fights the troupe head on with gon and killua and they do sneaky tactics the reason being that kurapika would get his ass killed if he goes in reckless even with his power.
As for Gon there is build up for his behaviour we see how reckless gon can get when it to people he cares about. There are several times where if a friend is involved in gon's mind he doesn't care even if he cna die from it like when he wanted to break in with the zoldyck's and get eaten by their giant gaurd dog. Yes Kurapika has build up because kurapika has experienced lost, kurapika has already went through that pain. That is the difference.
And no meruem has way more reason for wo he is, being ill like muzan is not a reason to kill people lol and be a dickhead. That being Ill bullshit went out of the window when he killed the person that was trying to help how is that a reason?
Meruem has a reason because unlike muzan he just got born he didn't know there were humans like komugi or netero. This is why Meruem has a change of heart because he finds the human potential in komugi and acknowledges potential in people like netero. Better characters I disagree I think hisoka better then any demon in fact even without backstory he is that interesting. This applies more to fans who go everywhere and talk about the current that there are no villains in Hunter. According to these people, the gang that slaughtered an entire clan or killed people at an auction for the sake of money are not villains. After all, HxH is so deep and adult in their head, it's a pity that not in reality.
Well HxH doesn't really have an obvious good or evil when it comes to writing characters and situations and tackling morally grey aspects within the story (especially for a battle shonen no less) deserves to be commended. Also besides wing and bisky I can't think of a lot of characters that are mostly used to explain stuff and hell even bisky still has a role in the story currently which isn't that.

I have a master's degree in Comparative literature. Hunter x Hunter's writing is nuanced, intelligent and and sophisticated. It definitely has its flaws but Demon Slayer is one of the worst stories I've ever encountered. There's no character development, the worldbuilding is terrible and the dialogue is so amateurish it makes the show almost unwatchable in places. Actions have no consequences and the plot feels contrived and meaningless. Demon Slayer also rips off better works left and right. The animation and the voice acting are brilliant, though.
You're definitely right about basic stories sometimes being just as good as complex ones, and I'd say HxH can be pretty basic at times but it's still enjoyable and it actually takes character work seriously. Demon Slayer is not just basic, it's bland, gauche, artificially sentimental and overall extremely incompetent as a story.

Hunter x Hunter and the Pretentious Fanbase
Gon and Killua got kidnapped by the main villains of the entire show. Let's make the Phantom Troupe into a bunch of idiots who apparently have no idea how a hostage negotiation works. Two 10 year olds nearly escaped the heavily hyped vetaran warriors on multiple occasions then just when you thought the Phantom Troupe couldn't get any more pathetic.
They stupidly let Kurapika dictate to them exactly what they are going to do and how they are going to do it like these supposed villains are little children. The Phantom Troupe actually let Gon and Killua go just like that. There is plot induced stupidity and then there is this garbage.
In one Arc. Gon got a power up into Adult Gon through power of friendship. His dead friend Kite came back to life out of nowhere so Gon wouldn't have to feel sad. All of Gon's injuries was healed by Deus Ex Machina called Alluka.
Its poorly written and constantly contradicts itself. Basically Fate Stay Night syndrome.
The Heroes constantly gain new abilities when its convenient. Gon suddenly gaining a massive power up into Adult Gon out of nowhere because he wanted to kill Pitou. And no excuses. Kurapika had to train for months to get any kind of contract. And even then it didn't give him a power boost.
Killua suddenly gains his new Godspeed ability out of nowhere when its convenient for him. When the Ortho Twins were about to kill him. Rammot is proven far superior in both speed & strength to both Gon & Killua on at least two separate occasions. Then all of sudden Killua has a power of friendship moment and one shots Rammot after taking out Illumi’s needle.
According to the fandom the theming of nen is that every battle is a complex game of strategy.
That kinda goes out of the window when the main character gets a new power up out of nowhere that makes him a hundred times stronger and allows him to one shot a previously invincible enemy.
Now assuming you aren't a troll and you don't respond with childish insults to criticism. Clearly Nen is flawed as a power system. Because similar to Fate Stay Night and A Certain Magical Index. It makes up over complicated rules but similar to Shirou Emiya or Touma Kamijou. These rules are usually thrown out when its plot convenient to the main characters. That's why its not the masterpiece that the elitist fanbase thinks it is.
The nen vows don't really make sense though.
One Kurapika had to train even with nen vows. And all he got was one new ability Chain Jail which still had limits. For example against Uvogin. Kurapika still had to fight at his original power level. He won by outsmarting his enemy.
On the other hand. Gon's power up came out of nowhere. with seemingly no limitations. He didn't train for it. For example against Pitou. Pitou killed Kite easily. Terrifying Gon and Killua. Then out of nowhere, Gon gets a massive power boost out of nowhere that apparently puts him on par with Meruem and allows him to one shot Pitou.
An enemy previously massively stronger than him was one shot by his power up. I mean isn't that a bit too convenient. Too bad Netero couldn't just use a nen vow to one shot Meruem. Netero was planning to die anyway. See what I mean. Seems like Gon is getting special treatment.
Two apparently every nen vow comes with consequences. Gon's nen vow was to sacrifice his life. But he didn't die. He was basically ill for a few months at most then came out perfectly fine and Kite came back to life. He came out with practically no consequences.
Then there is Killua who got Godspeed out of nowhere to save him from the Ortho Twins.
And Kurapika's Emperor Time pretty much came out of nowhere.
Togashi didn't have to introduce a villain with a insta kill ability with no way to block or defend against the villain's attacks but he did. Then he gave Killua a new ability out of nowhere to win an otherwise impossible situation. That is bad writing.
Togashi literally wrote himself into a corner then wrote in a new plot device ability to save the main character in an impossible to survive scenario. That's bad writing.
If this was any other series. The Hunter X Hunter fans would be crying plot armor, asspull & power of friendship.
We never see Kurapika do any training for his Emperor Time. So it can probably be assumed that this is a passive ability. Call me crazy but if his entire clan had such an overpowered ability. Then how did they die? That's what hundreds of warriors who can use every type of Nen freely against 7 mercenaries at most. That should have been open season for Phantom Troupe hunting.
There's also the fact that Kurapika didn't even know what Nen was until Izunavi taught him. So kind of a big plot hole. That Kurapika somehow knew about Emperor Time which is a nen based ability that comes from his clan when all of his clan members were already dead. So where did Kurapika learn of Emperor Time.
All of his Clan was already dead a long time ago. He didn't even know about nen before he met Izunavi. The Phantom Troupe who hunted down Kurapika's clan didn't know about Emperor Time or anything similar. So it can assumed no one in Kurapika's clan used Emperor Time while they were literally dying by the hundreds. Kind of a massive plot hole.
It was stated that the many red eyes of all of Kurapika's clan were taken after their deaths. Meaning they had access to all of the abilities Kurapika has.
Gon & Killua escaped through plot armor. They didn't outsmart Nobu. The Phantom Troupe idiotically let them go. Pakunoda walked out with Gon & Killua unhandcuffed and not tied up towards Kurapika. And they had no guarantee that their boss was safe or unharmed which he wasn't.
It didn't serve thematic purpose with any decent writing anyway. It was just poorly written asspulls that made no sense and Gon's power up outright broke previously established rules.
That makes zero sense. It was not set up or foreshadowed beforehand whatsoever. It is an asspull that came out of nowhere. Gon magically came back to life when the author randomly wrote in Alluka as a deus ex machina. Kite also came back to life out of nowhere. Gon clearly did not sacrifice anything. He went right back to original age and original health after Alluka healed him. Gon got an omnipotent asspull with literally no drawbacks or consequences.
It makes no sense why Netero or anyone else mentioned this technique or tried to use this technique themselves.
It does not make any sense. Godspeed was not set up or foreshadowed at all. Killua was about to die against a broken ability then he randomly pulls a new ability out of his ass that magically perfectly counters it. There is no excuse for this kind of garbage writing.
It makes no sense why Emperor Time was mentioned beforehand or why the other Kurta Clan members wouldn't have used such a broken ability while they were being killed.

That is not how Nen Contracts work. Nen Contracts for every other person in the series had to be set up & prepared beforehand. Kurapika used a nen contract as well. He didn’t get a power boost. He had to set it up the nen contract beforehand. The Nen Contract gave Kurapika one special ability and that was it. And that was a Nen Contract that Kurapika actually put his life on the line for. If he broke the Nen Contract. He died.
Meanwhile Gon breaks all of the previously established rules. He pulls a massive power boost out of his ass. Then he one shots a previously invincible villain. There was no set up, no preparation and no foreshadowing whatsoever. If Nen Contracts are that quick and easy to use for massive power boosts. Then why didn’t Netero use a Nen Contract to defeat Meruem. Its clear that Gon’s Transformation was a poorly written asspull.
Gon did not sacrifice his life. Gon goes to the hospital for a while. The poorly written deus ex machina Alluka is written into the story to bring Gon back to full health. Then Kite comes back to life out of nowhere. There is no excuse for this kind of garbage writing.
It is a deus ex machina. There were zero consequences for Alluka healing Gon. It is just a massive asspull with no foreshadowing or set up. Gon is magically healed back to full health by deus ex machina. That is a fact.
Kurapika had a lot more hatred than Gon since his entire family & clan was killed meanwhile Gon barely even knew Kite. Yet Kurapika couldn’t pull a massive Power Boosts out of his ass.
Netero clearly had a strong hatred towards Meruem to the point he was willing to implant a nuke inside of his own chest.
Gon just used an deus ex machina because he is the main character. That is an objective fact.

Even though Gon should be 1 in a million in terms of potential, he still loses fights and has no epic fighting scenes, because he's still learning and it's an actually logical progression. While with tanjiro, he became the most important character in the whole universe, why? Nobody could beat an upper level demon for 100 years until he came around? Also the fights are litterally the characters teleporting behind him and a drawing of his slashes behind him, all the fights are the same, the demon shows off his skill, the good guys adapt to it and defeat him. Tanjiro getting a power up for no reason at the end. Character depth? Saying tanjiro is better than Gon, because he has a sad backstory is wild? Tanjiro is basically a copy paste of Gon or even Deku, nothing original about him and every single character and his mother has a sad backstory. It's not hard to make a backstory. The powersystem of DS is just predetermined moves that have no benefit over another one, they're just different type of slashes. While with nen you can have a power that fits your personality, you could litterally make up one. With the nen powersystem you can make up power systems that are present in other animes, like killua if he had a sword he could recreate electric breathing technique.( and not like the made up breathing techniques, because again they're just slashes, nothing hard.) It's a bit disingenuous to compare a finished manga series, with a manga that's still at it's beginning stages (if togashi was healthy). Also a bit disengenuous when you say only thing hxh has better is world building which is very hard thing and should've been easy for demon slayer as the minimal world building we did get everything looks the same.

How could you say that a character is well written when you don't know about them? Also greed island Arc was absolutely pointless, not the mention the start of Chimera Ant Arc. The climax of the arc was good but the setup took so long it started to feel boring. The most character development I felt was of meruem, we saw a whole change in his ideology.

@@Error-yh3xr greed island introduces the kids' hatsu, justifies their strength and expertise in future arcs by serving as a training arc, shows the reason for chrollo getting healed, takes gon to kite, and gives killua and gon development. How is it pointless? At least narratively and mechanically it serves multiple purposes. Its not even a deviation from the main goals because ultimately Gon needs to beat it to reach either Ging or Kite.

I would agree on everything except Gon's development. It has always been there. Subtle but it was there for a kid living life on a happy-go-lucky island getting a crash course on the world and its cruelties. He is truly a kid in mind and heart. His biases against killers that he likes (Killua and the murderer he trained with on greed island) and the phantom troupe are based on a kid's understanding.
Just finished the anime and manga of demon slayer and I gotta say it's official my favorite new gen it blows mha tf out the window 😅😭but I can argue why I like components of each series better than the other
Gon doesn’t have development and that’s the point. He’s always been a crazy ass kid, arcs like the Hunter exams to Greed Island only showed more of that that crazy part of him in moments, The CA arc just revealed his nature in full swing

I would happily read/watch a spinoff starring literally any character from Demon Slayer. Inosuke, Mitsuri, Obanai... Hell, the old lady from the Wisteria House! Goto the Kakushi, even. Chimera ant arc is better than all of demid slayer. HxH is a series that deserves its praise and the reasons why people say its overrated is because there are only generic stories today. HxH is my fav. anime of all time and I've never seen Demon Slayer so you've motivated me to watch the show now.
I disagree with your take on Gon not making sense with Kite (or characters not being developed in general). The fact that Gon could get away so many times led to him having a false expectation of consistently winning a fight. When he realizes that there is no bringing him back you see him blowup, he was able to come back from getting his arm blown off with Genthru, fighting the Phantom Troupe, fighting Hanzo. The biggest trump card of his persistence led to his friend's demise. As the show went on, Gon did mature but it was subtle. A lot of the development characters get when interacting with Gon is subtle. I understand though that the pacing wasn't for you which is something I can't change.
Thank you for making this video, it was hilarious and it inspired me to watch Demon Slayer.

I love both Hunter X Hunter. In HxH, there are some moments that bored me to death. Some of the episodes feel like filler while DS was just straight to the point. No unnecessary scenes, no flashbacks, no unnecessary explanation, just straight to the point. DS did what other shonen anime failed to do.

Kite is very influencial to him. He was the catalyst to Gon's journey and is the link Gon has to find Ging. Gon also mentions Kite several times across diff arcs iirc. He also blames himself for what happened to Kite coz he thinks he distracted him. So I could still see why he snapped. If that's not enough reason for you, it's up to you.

But with hisoka, I hope we don't get one. I'm okay with it being left as a mystery. His appeal comes from his mystique. At best what Togashi can do is drop some subtle hints and leave his past up for interpretation. (iirc another mangaka wrote something about hisoka backstory and Togashi likes it)

Um yeah nah bro normally I like your videos but you are really pushing it with this one. Hunter x Hunter has a wide variety of characters, some have major emotional arcs that change who they are while others stay mostly the same throughout. That's not bad writing that's Writing 101. Don't believe me? Look up the difference between a flat character and a round character then get back to me.
Demon Slayer on the other hand has some of the most safe, bland, and predictable character "development" around with hamfisted backstories to try to make you care about characters right before they die and done to death hero's journey shenanigans that's been done better it literally hundreds of stories. Also the villains have little to no development until they die where the author tries to make you feel sorry for them with a last minute flashback whereas Hunter x Hunter prefers to define a character by their actions/interactions in the present which is way more effective. Lengthy flashbacks are a crutch for writers who lack the ability to properly define their characters in the present.
Hunter x Hunter's "villains" on the other hand don't just exist to make life difficult for the main characters, they have lives and goals beyond that which even sometimes results in them working with the "heroes" of the story which is more than I can say for Muzan's crew who only exist to kiss his ass and kill demon slayers and rarely ever display much independent thought.
The world building in Demon Slayer is literally nonexistent whereas Hunter x Hunter goes to great lengths to explain how the Hunter Association and the world around it operates. Hell the author of Demon Slayer never even comes up with a good reason as to why the Demon Slayer Corps isn't recognized/sanctioned by the regular government despite tons of demons running around slaughtering people in droves. Like wtf
Oh and everything about Nezuko makes no sense and the story seems to go out of its way to sandblast every chance at development that poor girl could get in favor of making her a cheap deus ex machina to bail out Tanjiro whenever he's in trouble but also never too effective so she might end up overshadowing him or his two homies. The fact that she's not even present for the final battle with Muzan and only arrives at the end to TNJ Demon Tanjiro back to the light side proves how atrocious her character is handled.

Rengoku and Obanai weren't really fleshed out to be fair when from "I agree kill the demon girl and the boy" "set your heart ablaze young kamado ofc I protected I would always protect young demon slayers" and obanai is a strict asshole who is a love interest for mitsuru
They literally showed Rengoku & Obanai's backgrounds & what lead to them hating demons & them joining the Demon Slayer corps. They even have offshoot chapters of the author giving Rengoku & the other Slayers more screen time

@@TriggeredSenpai aight then, since you asked imma give you some: the main cast of hxh(gon, kite, kurapika, leorio) are all given a solid amount of characterization the moment we meet them. Their goals and the reasons for chasing those goals are perfectly established with their backstory and doesn't neat around the bush with the characterization. Meanwhile in the DS anime you don't have that lvl of layered characterization (which isn't a bad thing, I just find it lazy and boring) not to mention the main cast(tanjiro, inosuke, zenitsu) are basically the generic cookie cutter characters you see in a lot of anime(which isn't rly all that bad, I just find it boring and predictable.) Also nezuko is pretty much just a cutesy guard dog if you think about it. She doesn't have a personality at all. Replace her with a bloodthirsty, loyal, obedient blood hound and it wouldn't really change much. In fact, it might even make the story more interesting. The power system in hxh is also leagues better than ds(in which the "system" is basically non-existent) if you understand it. Each hatsu ability is derived from some part of the characters' personality. Gon is impulsive and childish so his ja jan ken reflects that part of his character, killua's lightning ability makes sense if you know his backstory etc. etc. Every characters' ability has some sort of weakness and limitation that a character can exploit if their smart or strong enough. Even netero, the strongest nen user's technique has a weakness. He just seems unbeatable because he's trained all his life. You don't see that lvl of complexity in ds. The power system feels more like fighting style or techniques. There's no system or a series of rules that determine how a breathing technique would work or what weaknesses it would have. They're just flashy techniques or fighting styles imo. Breathing itself could've been considered as a condition that's required to use the techniques but then tanjiro uses it under water, where you can't fucking breathe. The techniques also seemed to require years of training to use them properly but then the asspull with the sun breathing happens in ep 19 which immediately broke my assumption of the unspecified technique requirement(The blood demon stuff seems more interesting tho). These are just a few and I still got some more but imma just keep it short for now

Listen there's some decent criticism in this vid (and I love HxH) but when you compare the arcs you have to take into consideration how long and short each one was. Like chimera ant is 61 eps/133 chapters so if for example that arc was just meh but greed island or 13th chairman election (both arcs which I'd say are C+ and B respectively, not D or F) it would be a lot worse for the story considering the amount of time put into reading/watching it.

I personally think 2011 is the worst version of HxH. The first arcs are just rushed and not as well done as in 1999. The chimera ant arc might be good but the infodumbs by the narrator who states the obvious are awful. And the ending was utterly stupid in how Gon met his father and how his disability was just wished back as if we are watching Dragon Ball or some bullshit.

Shockwave demon leiterally had barely any development, he has backstory then essentialy commits suicide. The demon at the buttom right side at 4:22 has barely any development till they die, like no one has any reason to listen to their backstory when their gonna die. Zenitsu has one of the worst developments, somehow he has a fellow appretice like him who became a demon and he acts serious then after all is done, literally goes back to how he was before that all occured. I would also like to highlight the lack of development for snake hashira, love hashira, and fire hashira who had their backstories told the moment they die or for the fire hashira, he literally had 1 movie for development. But Kite and Gon relationship isn't the best

Demon slayer is not my favorite show and neither is HXH but I would happily choose HXH over Demon Slayer any day. The Demonslayer story to me is just so… I guess basic,I honestly don’t know how to describe but it’s really wack and the amazing animation is the only thing keeping me awake while watching this.

HxH is 10x more interesting, in that 1) we really have no idea where the story is going, but there are SOO many possibilities that can happen with the characters they introduce and the mysteries of them. It's not your typical "MC trains hard to defeat bad guy" story. 2) HxH stands out from other shonen anime because there's such an amorality among all the characters, even the main cast.
I like Demon Slayer, but the story really is basic...a guy trying to turn his sister back to normal and has to defeat the Bad guy to do it? That's basically the plot to FMA. Although FMA was *really* good, so I won't judge DS to hard.
Hunter X Hunter is a basic adventure story if we're using that logic. 98% of Anime & Manga is basic story concepts that have been done over & over, and fans try to make one story seem more special than the other because of biasness.
If I were looking for a Adventure, I'm going to Dragon Ball, One Piece & Naruto before I go to bland ass Hunter X Hunter. That series lacks flavor & effort with a incohesive story

He complains about the phantom troupe not having a back story and refuses to read the manga or just look up if they did get a backstory in the manga and for Gons development in the chimera ant arc if you pay attention to the story you see time after time that there is hints towards him going down the path he took and also the 2011 anime cut the kite flashback because they didn’t know if they would make it that far and in the manga Gon talks about kite all throughout the story
I did read the manga. Chrollo got a backstory which was hella mid & the other Phantom Troupe members weren't fleshed out as characters. They were just there and the execution on both Gon & Killua's development was super contrived. I payed attention to the story. Just because I don't accept half-ass writing doesn't mean I didn't "pay attention" to the story😑🤦🏽♂️
@@TriggeredSenpai in the phantom troupe or York New arc it shows Gons recklessness and fleshes out the dynamic of him and Killua so when it finally came to Gon breaking down and Killua not being there and them distancing throughout the arc it makes sense for him making the nen vow and I won’t judge your opinion on the phantom troupe backstory but I personally liked it as it does a good job explaining why each of the members chose there hatsu

*Demon Slayer's fights are better. HxH fights are extremely 1-sided and boring to watch
*Demon Slayer's story is a lot more consistent than HxH's & has more entertaining arcs than HxH. HxH at best has 2 good arcs (Chimera Ant & York New)
*Demon Slayer's stakes/consequences are better than HxH. Demon Slayer actually kill they're major characters. HxH pussyfoots around a lot. And no, Netero is not a major character. Kite was a major character, but he died and came back to life
*Nen is a more creative power system, but it ruins HxH story and allows weaker characters to beat stronger characters they have no business beating. Demon Slayer's power system is more grounded, which helps it stay consistent with the story. It also allows for more strategic fights because Demons are naturally stronger than the Slayers, and they have to find a way around that
*HxH has better World Building, that's about its

There’s also a lot of strategy depending on the battle like Gon vs the bomber or Killua vs those two dart Chimera ants. Lots of battles in the series are also close and not completely one sided but that adds another layer when it is like against the royal guards coming up with creative ways to get the jump on them because they lack power. Most of this is just subjective so you can’t say for sure it’s a bad series but if you’re being genuine about this then I’ll respect your opinion, no matter how trash it is

Gon has no character development... during the entire demom slayer anime all I could see of character development for zenitsu was protect the box, I wanna marry Tanjiro sister and I had to survive to I pushed my limits against the spider demons.... the rest is cry and be obnoxious... i like inouske but all he does is learn to appreciate people, their approaches and kindness to him + to work as a team and don't compare Mangas if you're not gonna talk about the full story of hxh.
