My five would be FabFilter Pro Q (now 4), Saturn & Timeless (can use for modulation FX too). DMG TrackComp & TrackLimit (or sometimes Newfangled Elevate or Ozone). LiquidSonics Seventh Heaven Pro (or sometimes Relab LX480 Dual).
Had the pleasure of doing an SSL day with Mike a few years back in uni, a true gentleman and great teacher with a few great name drop stories for good measure - definitely one to listen to!
They're great plugins. A TDR bundle & Valhalla Vintage Verb would probably be my picks for anyone starting with a blank slate, for fantastic sound at silly prices. DMG TrackComp would be another pick, because it has a bunch of models, making it really good value too. Plus the free ones, e.g. NAM, SuperMassive & Sixth Sample Deelay.
I mix dialogue (roughly 1500 mixes), All my projects in the works are backed up three times, making four copies in all. Archival is two copies. HD space is cheap. Replacing a destroyed projects isn't. Simple. My most used tools are by far Pro-Q3(and soon 4, it's great), Pro-C2, Pro-DS, Harrison AVA DeEsser and Valhalla Room. My control setup is what you refer to as an extension of myself. EQs, sends, compressors via two DjTechtools Midifighter Twisters, Presonus Faderport16 and Novation Dicers(they make the plugins show up/hide and work my volume trim activation/consolidation). That's more or less the basics of it. I don't look at my EQ knobs all that much. It's more of a glance.
To me, the FabFilter Q, whatever the version and the FabFilter L, whatever the version too. Softube Abbey Road Brilliance Pack is basic to me for guitars mix presence.
Can I take it that Mike’s item Number 6 is a big-ass transit van/truck, so that he can cart all that recording gear back’n’forth to his house, everyday..?
Haha indeed! The reality is 3 places is fairly well accepted by Professionals as the go to amount, obvioulsy two places should be enough, but having the 3rd gives you peace of mind,
It his mixing set up which is typically at home! This room he tracks in and he brought that in to mix a song for us for a great course we did with him for Kohle Audio Kult!

Very cool, but I'm a Cubase user. Sad but true.
Cubase is great and used by so many talented people!

Yes! Black Sabbath’s guitarist!
lmao he has a SSL board but has it buried under another board 😅😅

hes got a mixing board on top of his mixing board
Hi Jason, yes, this was his mixing system that he brought into the tracking room for the mixing course he filmed for us there.
This is typically his tracking room!
