I have been watching videos on packing and shipping prints and other art forms to sell on Etsy and yours has been the most helpful. Thank you for being specific about products!
Thank you so much for this video Ellen, I'm new to selling my art and want to be able to sell prints also. You always have the best advice and attention to all the little details!
Thank you so much for making this video. I am truly thankful, because you share your tools and you are helping others continue their art goals. This video gives hope and motivation. God bless you!
I'm new to all this and watching yr videos. Yr amazing I love yr work!!! I've be juggling to be a full time artist and wanting to go back to watercolor. I've been sketching since I was 13. I've been told to sell my work (deep down I had doubts and believed I wasn't good enough). Now I'm back on drawing again and relearning everything that I could remember since high school. Yr video helps me alot to where to start. Thank u Ellen!! ♡♡
Many thanks for the info . You've inspired me to improve my A/W presentation . Previously, I recall being in a client's studio and hearing him chatting with another of my customers: 'When John hands in the A/w , all I get as wrapping is a paper bag.' reply - 'You get a PAPER BAG ! '
Thank you Ellen for such a valuable information, i really appreciate you taking the time to help others figure that out :-) I've watched you other video about selling on etsy and it was fantastic! Thanks a lot !!!

Thanks, this was so helpful. How do you make the prints/what services do you use to take pics of art and make prints? Could you please make a howto make a print video in your style? :)
Thank you very much for your videos. Im planing to open an Epsy shop and I have seen some of your videos and they're of so much value, one thing is that the sound of your videos is rather low in my loptop in comparison with other videos, Thank you!!
I have a pro 100 and it makes great prints but I found it difficult to get the prints right. Lot of tweaking. Do you have a video on that or can you create one? Thanks for your help :)
Thank you for this helpful video. What camera do you use to take images of or what do you use to scan your original pieces, so that you can then make prints?
Jill McGinn You are very welcome! I scan my images in on a Canon scanner I own, then edit them in Photoshop elements to prepare for prints. If you don’t have a scanner, many copy shops have high-quality scanners that would do a great job. Inexpensive scanners work quite well; I just recommend that you use 300 dpi or larger.
Thank you. Another amazing advice giving video. ? You mentioned that you have your outsourced prints returned to you for signing. Does this mean that you do not sign the original or do you now have two separate signatures? ? You mentioned for outsourcing you would get ‘ High Quality’ pints. How do you determine what is a low grade print or a high grade print? Is this measured in pixels, dots per square inch? Please teach me the correct terminology and how to understand the difference and hopefully then be able to source the correct printer. Thanking you. 💐 Teresa.
Thank you for all your expertise❣️. I am an oil painter trying to figure out the process of selling my art in prints and giclees and it’s a lot to digest. Question, what is the best size print to offer when just starting out with limited budget?
Hi, Dorothy - and thank you for your kind words ❤ Based on my own customer feedback, I offer standard sized prints because they are the easiest to mat and frame; these would be 5x7, 8x10, 11x14, 16x20, etc. Hope this is helpful to you!
Ellen i love your style, and thank you for sharing your expertise!..congratulations on all your success...do you have any suggestions for sending very large original paintings such as 40"x60"...ive seen some artists send the canvas unstretched in a tube but i dont come across too many collectors interested in doing the extra work of putting a frame back into the canvas...is this acceptable?...it is expensive but possible to send prestretched large artworks but the disadvantage is that the artwork is more likely to suffer damage...large works cost at least 100.00 +insurance to ship..thank you again..youre awesome!
I wish I had sound advice for shipping large works. It has always been too much of an expense for me when combined with all the time it takes to create boxes (purchasing boxes and/or allowing a service like FedEx to handle them is WAY out of my price range). If it's a piece that really large you can always offer rolling it as an option for your customers but I agree with you in that I wouldn't think too many collectors want to go to the trouble of putting a frame back onto it. I have watched how to pack/ship canvas works by searching UA-cam and Google, though I can't remember where so I can't offer a link 😕 I'm sorry I'm not being more helpful! Good luck!
Hi, Anna :) I haven't made my paintings into digital prints yet but plan on doing so soon! If by chance you mean how do I put them on my computer, I use a scanner and then use a photo editing software to get them print ready :)
Ellen, what is your paper setting on your canon pro 100 printer? I just bought it after I had watched your video. When i try to print picture on the art paper size 8.5x11 The image came out pretty small... i wanted 8x10 image size on 8.5×11 art paper. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. ❤
Hi! I don't print straight from the printer but rather use a companion software called Studio Pro for my printer. I open my image through PhotoShop Elements and then open it from there. Within that software I'm able to set my paper to whatever size I need. I hope this helps; sorry for the delay, fingers crossed that by now you've already found your answer to your question :)
Do you have a video on how to print paintings (or in my case, collages)? Do you have to separate the colors or do you print them on your computer printer? What kind of paper? Thanking you for all the information that you share so well.
The paper I use is the archival matte by Lexjet which you can get it from their website and I believe, Amazon sells it as well. Unfortunately, I don't have a video showing the specifics of printing my work but I can tell you that I use a scanner to capture the image and then edit it on my computer. And yes, I print my own work from home using a Canon Pro 100 series printer. Hope this helps!

Glad you found this helpful! Yes, I do still have a website but I use it for more informational purposes about my current work, where it can be purchased and where upcoming shows are. From there I link to social media and Etsy :)

Zeta G. Hello! 😊 I ship my prints using Etsy and it's mailing service and United States Postal Service. I currently have a Canon Pro100 printer that I use for printing. Thank you for your question; I hope it is helpful.
Thx, great and very helpful video. Good confirmation I also ship the same packaging and sleeve. Love the printer. I'm not to the point where I'm selling enough to buy a larger printer. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Etsy. I've been on the fence about opening an etsy store.
Kristine Pollock you are most welcome and I'm so happy to know you found a few things helpful. We have to make certain things a priority in our business and as much as I wanted a larger printer it simply wasn't an option for me for a very long time so I totally understand. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment :)
Hi Ellen. I've been wondering whether a certificate of authenticity should be on an adhesive label so the customer can stick it on the back if they wish..
Hi, Sonia 😊 If you feel compelled to include a COA, I say go for it. I know many artists that do this but there are also an equal number that do not. Personally, I include a letter with my originals stating the title of the piece and the best way to care for it.
Thank you for watching! I have used Vistaprint and have had good success with their calendars. The colors always come out nice and vivid and they now have several sizes to choose from :)
When you had to go to a Printer for a print... did you take a photograph of your painting, put it into a jpeg..and then bring your jpeg to the Printer? Thank-you for this video!
I've never physically taken my work to a local printer before because I have yet to find one that I really like. I use an online POD service for larger works and upload a high res image that I've had scanned, or, if the painting was too large for the scanner I had it photographed, then edited first. Hope this helps!
@@EllenBrennemanStudio Hi Ellen, I hope this is ok to ask as I am sure you are very busy... I have some paintings in another province which I am hoping to have a family member take in to a photographer so I can have high resolution images put into a jpeg.. [that is how it is done? Does the photographer supply the proper jpeg for this? ] Does the photographer know what numbers [sorry for ignorance] the high resolution images need to be put into the jpeg of my varied sized paintings so I can take the jpeg to a local place that makes giclees or prints or an online place to make giclees and prints? What is a fair price to expect the photographer to charge for images in this way? If fair to ask you.... Thank-you for any help!! :)
@@Isaiah-hy2xf from my experience, the photographer provides a raw (unmanipulated) high resolution image of the piece for the artist to edit. I have paid around $25 per image (raw), but if you expect the photographer to edit as well in order to make the image print-ready, the cost will go up. When I photograph my larger works I still have to edit them before they are ready to print. I do this by tweaking the color, white balance, sharpen, etc. in order to make it look as close to the original as possible. Hope this helps :)
A lot will be based upon what requirements you have such as what type of paper you want to use, whether you want to offer drop shipping and how much you're willing to pay because papers vary greatly in price. The company that I used before I bought my own printer was FinerWorks.com and they did a great job. They offer many styles of paper, some geared towards all mediums and others that are textured and more appropriate for watercolor. I don't currently have a video covering these particular questions so I can't help you there, but hopefully this info will lead you in the right direction. Good luck!
i had the same question. Trying to debate buying a printer or ordering prints. I don't even know if my art will sell yet so i don't want to buy a printer yet. So I first wanted to see where I can order them.
Craig I purchased a Canon pro-100 series printer and it makes excellent prints. Ink is a bit expensive (aren't they all) but to have my own printer and be able to control the quality of my prints makes it totally worth it.
Hello, this was very helpful, thank you for this, 🙏also may I ask you a question that really bothered me for some time , you mentioned original artworks, lets say a painting , how would you sell it on etsy or in general, I mean, how do you sell one artwork without any copy, just one piece if that make sense, do you auction it or else?? I've been wondering about it. Sorry for lengthy comment,😅 thank you. 😊 I'm new .
Hi, Rozitta :) If you are looking to sell just one painting, I don't recommend Etsy. Think of it as opening up a shop where you have multiple items to sell, not just one. For a single painting, you might check local shops that might promote it for you, or list it on Ebay. Maybe someone else will have additional comments and thoughts about this as well.
@@EllenBrennemanStudio oh no I meant original paintings without other copies, multiple different paintings or art objects in just one examplar or single copy. Sorry I must've put it wrong way.🙈😅
@@r.g.36 Ah, I'm sorry for my misunderstanding. Yes, you can sell original paintings on Etsy; however, I wouldn't recommend opening an Etsy shop for just one painting; having multiple paintings in a shop makes it easier to find you in Search, and betters your chances for more sales (and more positive reviews). All of these things combined help sellers sell their work. I hope that helps :)
Clearbags.com offer great prices for backing boards and clear bags that seal. Great for prints, originals, books, etc. Been using them for my art and coloring books since 2013.
Great video :) I wanted to start shipping as an artist but did not know all of this valuble information. I have 2 questions: 1-What do you think of shipping big "framed" pictures in large boxes or whatever? (Some clients will not prefer doing extra effort by going and buying a frame that suits the painting you sent and will prefer it to come framed). 2- What shipping companies do you recommend (if it is just paper prints or framed ones). Thank you so much for your video ❤ I will be very happy to subscribe and share it :)
Thank you for your comment and your questions. So glad you're finding my videos helpful! I am planning a new and updated shipping video very soon which I hope you'll find useful. I hope to have it up within the next week or so ✨🤞🏼 As for your question on large framed prints/paintings I personally do not offer this service. The last large painting I shipped (sized 18x24) cost nearly $150 to ship via FedEx because anything under glass has to be handled accordingly. You could probably get by in shipping for less but you'd still have to insure your package and if you packed it yourself (and didn't properly pack for glass) you might not get reimbursed if it arrived damaged. Long story short, I think it's too much of a pain to do unless the customer is willing to pay for that cost. Hope this helps!
@@EllenBrennemanStudio Thank you so much for your honest advice and educating zero experienced artist in business like me 😊 and I am looking forward to your coming video 👍 Best of luck

Thanks so much for yr reply. Much appreciated!
@@EllenBrennemanStudio Thank-you so much, it helps! :)
@@EllenBrennemanStudio Thank-you again, very much appreciated!!
Thank You!
You are most welcome - glad you found it helpful! :)
I need to know where to order prints. Best paper and price for watercolor. Can you help me with this. Do you have a video covering this topic?
A lot will be based upon what requirements you have such as what type of paper you want to use, whether you want to offer drop shipping and how much you're willing to pay because papers vary greatly in price. The company that I used before I bought my own printer was FinerWorks.com and they did a great job. They offer many styles of paper, some geared towards all mediums and others that are textured and more appropriate for watercolor. I don't currently have a video covering these particular questions so I can't help you there, but hopefully this info will lead you in the right direction. Good luck!
Thank you for taking the time to help.
i had the same question. Trying to debate buying a printer or ordering prints. I don't even know if my art will sell yet so i don't want to buy a printer yet. So I first wanted to see where I can order them.
what printer did you go for Ellen ?
@@EllenBrennemanStudio Oh thank you sooo much, sorry English is not my mother tongue so I may sound confusing sometimes.🙈😅🙏😊😊😊💓
Hi. Are your prints done on laser paper? Thank you for your help.
Hi, Pamela :) I use Lexjet Archival Matte paper for all of my prints
@@EllenBrennemanStudio Thank you
Clearbags.com offer great prices for backing boards and clear bags that seal. Great for prints, originals, books, etc. Been using them for my art and coloring books since 2013.
are your prints watercolor by hand?
Hi. Can you please tell me what paper do you use to print your paintings?
Daniela, I use matte archival paper by Lexjet 😊
You're very kind :) can you also tell me where do you get this paper?
Can you tell me what program you use to make custom sizes on the pro 100? I need to make 10.5 by 14.5
I have a subscription to PicMonkey and use their service to do some of my editing and create custom sizing.
@@EllenBrennemanStudio Ok, thanks. I'll check it out
Thank you thank you ! Just sold my first painting ... So this has been very helpful for me !
Nancy, that is SO terrific!!! Congratulations!
Nancy Bailey congratulations!!!
Great video :) I wanted to start shipping as an artist but did not know all of this valuble information.
I have 2 questions:
1-What do you think of shipping big "framed" pictures in large boxes or whatever?
