Chocolate milk for recovery and extra clothes for the finish as I get chilled really quickly.
Agreed on the extra clothes!
In my last 100km drop bag I had: a cheese sandwich, salted peanuts, can of beer. I also use a 20L drybag where the race doesn't provide one.
For longer races I also pack Tailwind, TUC biscuits, complete change of running kit, spare shoes, towel, toothbrush, toothpaste, spare poles, spare headtorch, chargers and cables, hot/cold weather kit that I don't carry unless it's needed (e.g. extra water bottles, warm jacket, crampons) and anything else the race organisers require to be in the drop bag.
Good deal!
Can never be too prepared! Good luck brotha!
Thanks man!
Making tape stick - Nice info!
It works great! Hope it works for you!
This is so helpful! Thank you. With my first significant ultra coming up, I appreciate videos like this.
Awesome, Doug! Glad it was helpful! Which race do you have??
@@UltraTrailSteven Georgia Jewel 100.
@@dougmoore7424 awesomesauce!
@@UltraTrailSteven yeah, I’m very excited. I was gonna do no business 100 but the timing of it fell during the heart of my sons XC season.
Nice video, having a wet bag is smart. perhaps the other thing I do, depending upon how far the parking is from the start line, throw any extra unnecessary clothing or water bottles you were holding during your warm up that you don't need for the race
We have to take a shuttle to the start, so we won’t be able to drop anything. Thanks!
I would throw in a pair of Ultra Glide's, just in case. Have a great run!
Thanks! I might throw in some shoes just in case
Hope it went well! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
It did! Thank you
Hand sanitizer. I don’t use it in daily life but do in an ultra.
Not a bad idea!
Good luck with the race and safe travels. Even when it's warm out west I wear gloves and carry poles. The gloves protect your hands against sharp rocks when you inevitably need to keep from falling. I carry poles as extra protection from animals. Not sure if you'll run into bears on the course......
Thanks, Labe! There are bears in the area, but lots of runners on course and I’m not worried.
I know you don't switch shoes but do you bring a spare pair in case something breaks (i.e. laces or a tear in the upper)? You mentioned you put your name and bib on the bags, but do you label them with 1,2,3 or mid point and finish to tell them a part too? How about including a massage gun?
I’ve never actually had to pack a drop bag before, but I might throw a spare pair just in case. If there were multiple drop bags allowed, yea, you would label them with the name of the aid station. Massage gun could be a good addition. Thanks!
Red bull and chapstick 🤘
Chapstick! Good call!
Happy 4th. I'm surprised you don't change shoes or socks.
No need to with XOSKIN toe socks and good fitting shoes!
I saw someone asked the question I was going to ask ….. about packing a drop bag. Im sure you don’t pack a drop bag for a 50K trail race…….seems kinda pointless! I mean, you could -- Maybe for a 50+ miler ( trail race ). Of course I did for Ironman years ago at the transition stations…… anyway, Great video Steven! Always informative 🙂👍. Also, how are you feeling? You look better
Some people do pack bags for 50k’s. I wouldn’t personally. But if no crew, then whatever.
I am mostly better. Just a bit of a cough still. Thanks!
@@UltraTrailSteven Since there are aid stations, I probably wouldn’t pack for a 50k…… most people that run marathons don’t pack, and a 50k is just 5-6 miles longer. Guess you’d pack for a change of clothes or shoes. Anyway, it’s whatever 🙂👍🙂👍🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️. Glad you’re feeling better 👍. Could have rang my shirt out yesterday after my trail run… humidity is awful
@@mikes7654 omg yes! Just got back from super easy 40 minutes and I was drenched in sweat! The dew point is 75!! 😱
**starts taking notes** ok, step 1, we need a bag.
I’m being weird and I’m looking at the terrain of Lemhi pass in google maps…intense!
Packing a beer is allowed??
😯
Best of luck if I don’t talk to you before then!!
Yeah it’s some serious terrain! Awesome that you looked it up! Depending on the race, you can pack alcohol. Thank you!!
