Neither am i , nor turkey sausage, turkey has very little flavor, i will eat 1 product called turkey pastrami, it does not taste like beef pastrami, the only whole turkey i'll eat is slow & low smoked in my smoker over hickory for a long time or deep fried in peanut oil, those are good.

    • @Durufle68
      @Durufle68 4 роки тому

No. I disagree with all three of you. You dint have to love something to review it. The problem is the manufacturer set up the comparison by calling it “bacon.” It cannot ever be bacon because it’s the wrong animal. However, that is the gold standard for bacon. Even among bacon... some are better than others. So if all you wanted to know what is tolerable or even appreciated... the panel told you what they liked. The panel may not be as biased in their assessment.

Butterball original (not the thin and crispy) is the only turkey bacon I will buy. Yes, it is not like real bacon, but if you're watching your diet, it's a tasty alternative. I would not make a BLT out of it, but it's perfectly fine with eggs or an egg white omelet.

I also discovered it back in late 80’s to early 90’s because of my dads heart disease and bypasses.
It’s SO unfortunate that it was misinformation as we know now that pork fat isn’t the cause of heart disease.
What’s really sad is I recall us changing to use “mock” butters and those were full of hydrogenated oils which were the WORST for his heart disease.

I think the problem here was that they were testing Turkey Bacon - and instead of comparing one Turkey Bacon to another - they attempted to compare it to Pork Bacon - which is a completely different product. Turkey Bacon has another disadvantage in that they deliberately make it lower fat - which is what makes Pork Bacon Flavorful and Crispy. About twice a year, we get on a Bacon kick for a couple of weeks in the house - and that is enough for about 6 months - so we are not big bacon eaters - I make my own Pork Sausage mix with (For Patties) ground pork and spices so I can control how much fat I like in it - and get the taste I want. Sometimes the sausages are way too fatty.

This is the only ATK taste test I've seen so far where the premise itself is so despised. I know there are people who are already on board with that, and also people who are disappointed by that, based primarily on food preferences and requirements. I'm just amused at the contrast, if we can suspend all of that other stuff for a second.

Here’s the thing with turkey “bacon.”
You can’t compare it to classic pork 🥓 bacon.
It’s simply not. But if you enjoy a thin fried ham, fried Bologna, fried spam- that sorta thing- you’ll enjoy turkey bacon. We really enjoy it as a meaty alternative. The texture can be managed and make it as crisp or as tender- and use bacon grease to dry it in- not because you are trying to make it taste like bacon but because it makes it yummy like most things fried in bacon grease.
Now- I’ve stood up for my 🦃 🥓 without shame!
    Butterball is our favourite btw.

In my local market, Canadian bacon is always sold out and only turkey bacon is available.

Turkey bacon is so unpopular in my area that the price of regular bacon is 6 to 7 bucks per package while the turkey bacon is hard pressed trying to sell at 3 US dollars for a package. Currently, turkey bacon is on sale at the grocery store for two bucks a pop. If you love turkey bacon, it's because you don't regard it as an actual bacon but a spicier turkey product to be used in small proportions similar to ham slices. People who love bacon want the fat flavor.

The cook actually smoked a cigarette while cooking the turkey bacon and didn’t wash his hand. Hence the taste.

I understand the benefit of a more healthy alternative. I get that you want to live longer . Turkey bacon is a step to far. Eat it or not just don't mess with perfection.:)

I totally agree with the lady and do NOT really care for turkey bacon ... BUT I have tried SEVERAL different brands TRYING really hard to like it because too much pork isn't necessarily good for us. I have not ever seen any WELLSHIRE brand so I cannot compare that one but of all the other brands they tested I really do NOT care for ANY of them. The best brand that I HAVE tried is Sam's Choice. I wish that they had tried that one. If I absolutely HAD to eat turkey bacon ... THAT would be my choice. :)

Cannot understand why anyone subjects themselves to turkey ‘bacon’. We served it at a breakfast restaurant I managed and it is several steps past disgusting. I like Canadian bacon tho, I feel bad that it was associated with this monstrosity.

If I'm gonna go for a turkey breakfast meat I would think turkey sausage would be less disappointing. At that point, though, I'd probably just ditch the meat entirely and make an omelette instead.

Funny 🤣 that's how I felt about 10 years ago when I tried turkey bacon. It actually reminded me of crispy fried balogna but it was repulsive. Ugh.
Anyway here I am again after tasting Freshley's Chicken Livorno which is delicious and has turkey bacon (that I'm convinced is actually real bacon) in it.
Guess I'm rt bk where I started. 😒

I don't like the taste of most pork products (prosciutto being the one exception), so turkey bacon is my go-to. My favorite is Oscar Mayer. I tried a couple of different brands of uncured turkey bacon and didn't care for any of them. It's too much like Canadian bacon or ham.
