The alternator needs a full 12Volts to "excite" the charging. If the battery is marginal you'll have a problem. A generator will fully charge a dead battery but an alternator will not charge a dead battery.
Battery is brand new, installed last week. It sat for a week and then when I went to start it, dead. So it's somehow losing juice just sitting.
