One day I was walking on the streets of NYC and had the random thought, 'there are 3 million residents in Manhattan, and 7 million commute every day to the island...it's population swells to 10 million." Which to be sure is a lot by some standards, but by others who have populations of 20 million, it's only 1/2 as big. And yet, standing there on the street...I wondered where are they all? Where are those 10 million people? (as it was day time) And then...then...I looked up at the skyscrapers. And I realized they were all pretty much above my head, and I suddenly felt like I was in an enormous HIVE, and all the people of NYC were buzzing, each with their own agenda....each with their own vision of their lives...and I got very claustrophobic. If I didn't make it to Central Park soon after, I might have had a panic attack. So many lives...humming....buzzing...never quiet...never serene.
