Hi! Recently I was exploring some youtube channels about cleaning, minimalism and life hacks and I got to tell you that you are maybe the only one who actually contributes with her own ideas and original ways - all other youtubers tell the same things and repeat after each other but you come up with a lot of original ideas that are really practical. Keep going :) Hugs from Slovakia.
Bless you! Your home was flooded but you still managed to remain composed and film a video - what dedication! I enjoy watching your videos and they make great sense. I have certainly taken heed of some of your good advice and implemented some ideas into my life. Well done & keep up the good ideas!
I love your bare kitchen, it's so calming. It's probably why you can film such a calm video in the midst of flooding chaos. Your ideas for minimalism help me pare down even more and I look forward to them. I do have more food, but that's due to my upbringing and not being comfortable relying on the regular delivery of products to the stores. Now that I've fully embraced Zero-Waste, I was able to completely wean myself from saran wrap and plastic bags, without buying anything special. It's just a different mindset. And, I keep all my recipes and lists on my Smartphone.
I have a tip for you to consider. A freezer with lots of space costs more to run. Though a fridge is better with ample air space around the food. For the freezer the empty spaces can be filled with magazines or something which will hold the coldness. I'm not sure if it's because air is harder to cool to such low temperatures. Second tip, don't leave things on your kitchen scales as it upsets the mechanism over time and they will become inaccurate much quicker, depending on the weight of the item. I worry when minimalism means a smaller selection of foods are eaten. We need lots of different foods as each one brings its own blend of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. I enjoy your videos and find encouragement from them to go clear out an area. It feels great when I open a drawer and it's neat and tidy AND I can see everything in there. Thank you for your videos.

Water jugs to fill in freezer space or use large zip lock bags filled with water.
After watching your video I moved my glass's to another cabinet and moved my pots and pans to a cabinet and my bake wear to under my stove. Love it I can stand in one spot and empty my dish washer THANK YOU
Sorry to hear about your flooding situation. I bet being a minimalist comes in handy in situations like that...don't have to run around & pick a hundred things up off the floor.
This is DEFINITELY something that I need to work on! My new apartment is 621 sq ft and have a teeny tiny kitchen. I love my kitchen, and did minimize a lot, but there's still more to do. Thanks for your inspirational videos!
Dear Melody, just love all your videos :) with your instructions, tips and tricks I am slowly becoming a minimalist, something I didn't even knew existed :) and I just Love it! after this video I got rid of even more things from my kitchen I never ever use. I feel so proud. thank you for the inspiration! :)
You are such an inspiration. Thankyou for sharing. You have given me so much to work with. I'm excited to seriously declutter. Funny thing is. It is a painful process to declutter when a person holds sentiment to an object but at the same time, downsizing is so liberating. Blessings
I thought nesting was a smart way to organize before I started learning about minimalism so I was surprised when I heard you talking about not nesting in another video. I u nested everything not identical and it has simplified getring things out and putting them away so so much. thanks.
Oh how I wish I could be a minimalist. Less stuff feels so much cleaner and less stressful but with four children and a husband it is very difficult. I love watching your videos.
linda johnson instead of trying to go all out for a minimalist lifestyle I have taken an approach of a reductionist. I slow am evolving towards minimalism but on a slower pace. I continually purge and reorganize all our "stuff". My family is much more on board with this approach.
linda johnson i have 3 children and a husband and my house is more minimized then her house. I do with out a crib, bouncer, swing.. all that crap. and my kids have 2 favorite toys and 2 stuffed animals. they rarely play with them either. we go places or they play outside in the backyard all day ;) it is possible and SOOO much easier on me, my marriage and my children this way. I never have to bother them with cleaning up or cleaning up their toys/room. they help with cooking and cleaning up after cooking, laundry, sweeping and quick tidying. less stuff, less stress
Some minimalist things I have learned over the years: you dont need a dishwasher if you just wash dry and put away your bowl right away. same with your pans, I just clean them and out them away before I eat my food. takes 2 minutes (same amount of time it takes my food to cool down to eat anyway). If you wash things right away and never put them in the sink, you never have to "do the dishes". For the laundry, I just out anything dirty directly in the washer instead of a basket. when its full I turn it on. I dont bother with whites, darks, towels.
We have a big family but we do the dishes the same way too. And after the dinner everyone washes his plate by hand. That way the kitchen sink is rarely cluttered. No need for a dishwasher unless you throw parties every night.
Hi Pat! Enjoy your sunshine! Thanks, Melody-love your videos so much and am always inspired by them. I've implemented many great ideas that I wouldn't have thought of (hanging lids on the cabinet doors, for example.) Sorry to hear about your flooding problems!
Melody, I Love, Love, Love, your videos. thanks to u I am becoming more organized. did you get rid of your microwave? I didn't see it. and can you make an update video of what you eat in a day. thank you.
I manage property, they need to replace your carpet pad, you can clean the carpet, but the mold is in the padding under the carpet. the sub floor which is most likely cement should be cleaned with ammonia, never bleach (it will discolor the carpet over time best of luck to you! ps love the vids!
So sorry about the flooding! We had about 4 inches of rain last night. We are on one level, but good sloping in the yard area here. Take Care of You and I hope the carpet dries out well! I enjoyed your video today. I'm going through my Crochet hooks and downsizing ones I had misplaced and found.
Another great video! Have you thought about putting your knife & scissor block/storage on the wall with Velcro or Command strips? That would get it off the counter. 👍🏻
Thank you for all your videos, your channel has really inspired me to declutter and pay more attention to what I bring in the house. I have a long way to go but I look forward to your videos each week now that I have finally binge watched most of the previous ones. Did you do a video on your instapot that I missed?
Curious how often you use your Instant Pot. I love mine and I've been able to get rid of several appliances because of it. Do you make your rice in it too? Awesome video this week, thank you!
Nice kitchen. However, the oven mitts over the electrical outlets ara fire hazard. May I suggest the electric outlet covers that are inexpensive and can be purchased anywhere. Also, since you have had issues with flooding and you really don't use that large refrigerator, may I suggest a smaller model that can be raised up off the floor. My mom has one at her lake cottage and it works great.
Love the video! Thank you for posting it!! I would love more information on your recipe cards and cheat sheets/cards for cooking. I'm looking for a more simplified meals/planning and grocery shopping.
Since you rarely hand wash items, do you run the dishwasher a lot considering you only have place settings for 4 (I'm especially thinking of the cutlery). Love the videos - thanks!
Hi Melody, I am curious as to why you have your onion station raised? In my kitchen, I have placed a magnetic strip onto the wall and I place my knife, sharpener, scissors or you could hang anything else that is metal. This sits in the same vicinity as my chopping board. I suppose you could place the strip on the inside wall of the cupboard, say where your saucepans are. I like my knives exceptionally sharp so I won't use a drawer, this method works well for me in my kitchen.
Love this! Just curious, do you use Tupperware for leftovers? I didnt see any in your tour and for me that's one of the biggest pains to store. Thanks!
I don't have an oven, only a two burner range, so I don't do any baking (unless it's raw). I simply have a kettle, pot, wok, and crock pot. Added to the range, I can cook just about anything that I eat. Living near the grocery store is always a plus. I pass it everyday on the way to and from work, so it's easy to picky up fresh produce every other day or so.
Thanks for the tour! I noticed that you lack a few things and I was curious how you live without them--a coffee pot, toaster, microwave, and tupperware containers. I didn't see ziplock bags so how do you transport food or snacks when you are on the go? We all take our lunch and prep big meals a few times a week, so I feel like we need lots of tupperware.
I hope the flood damage is minimal. Good luck with drying everything out. Your next house should be on stilts :) (typical Queensland, Australian house).
Dawn Faialaga u mean a dish drainer to let your dishes dry ? I have metal one and it never has mildew ... we have had plastic ones that always have mildew
Thanks, Melody! Just a hint...rice is best kept in the dark, it helps to preserve it.☺ Sorry to hear about your flooded apartment...hope it will be dried out soon.
Every thing about my place is pretty minimalist, except the kitchen...I love going in there and going hog wild with so many ingredients on hand...either it's your thing or it's not. If that kitchen had a plant in it, it wd look like heaven to me....and/or a nice tea pot. I'm working on streamlining the counter top clutter (too many plants!).....not there yet.
Hi Melody, have you found that you have as good results using your IP as a slow cooker? I have really wanted to pare down my kitchen appliances but have heard mixed reviews on the slow cooker function of the IP. I know that you used your Crock Pot a good bit, so you should know! Keep up the great minimalist/organizing videos! And by the way, your very first videos you did in your kitchen have been my favorites! 😉
great tips! My kitchen is definitely the most UNORGANIZED space in my home lol we're working on it but it's stressful! **Side note: How do you make your deoderant!???
I'm well organised and practical person and I still end up smacking myself in the forehead after many of your videos. A wall mounted dishsoap dispenser. Such an obvious solution, yet I never thought of it. Never seen one anywhere either. It's always either built into the sink/draining board (hard to clean) or a little flask standing around. Btw. I used to wash my dishtowels with my clothes, too...until someone I dated was quite horrified at the thought of them being in the same washload as dirty socks and underwear. Still torn on the subject now. Did you ever have misgivings because of that?
I tried d paperless towels but I find it more wastefull with the water and time, and I kinda dont like those dirty dishcloths to go with my clothes when washing. What is your take on this one? I am just wondering cause I do really want to practice this habit of not using 🧻
I find the same thing. I don't like the dishcloths going in with my clothes. I tried saving them up for a separate load, but then I have to have so many of them it defeats my goal of being a minimalist. 😂
My kitchen is my nemesis. It is by far the biggest goal I have to tackle. I really would love to just throw everything away and start over fresh, but I would feel guilty about wasting it all. I have a spare bedroom and I'm going to pull all of my kitchen supplies out, throw away what is unusable, put items in a box that I want to donate (not even going to waste time selling), and put items in a box that I'm not sure about.
Best thing for knives is a magnetic bar near your splash back prep area. All knives up out of the way, but quick access and quick put away. I quickly rinse knives and put straight back after use.
Hi may I ask where u got that bag thingy for the napkins? The one that has a slit in the middle that looks like a kleenex tissue box but in a bag form? I want to get one for all those napkins I get from fast food places. Ty
Love your video.....I was just curious...do you keep glass cleaner? Furniture polish? Extra paper towels? Trash bags? ....ect..ect....I saw the Peroxide in spray bottle? I want an empty kitchen also..but was wondering about these items especially...........thanks so much...
Ok why have I never thought to use the metal dish raiser thing for pots?? I'm constantly moving some out of the way to get a bigger one on the bottom ... And the organizer to hold the lids and place?!?!? *smacks forehead*
Interesting video thank you... I'm wondering how many people you feed each day and if you have children? What do you eat? I'm curious because my kitchen is overflowing with stuff, I love to cook, and have children to feed who all eat differently. I don't know how I would survive in a kitchen like this but I'd love to know how you do it? Am hoping for some inspiration :)
I suspect they eat out a lot....lol. Mixing bowls? Always in use for big salads. Freezer...almonds, walnuts, pecans, coconut.....stock up n save...same with frozen berries. Under sink? Bucket full of plastic scrubbers, garbage bags, scrub brush, dish soap and other side, 5 gal bucket for garbage. Dishwasher? full of storage containers, a few nice jars, extra plates and my hand mixer. Spices? on a blank end-wall...3 shelf curio about 2 'wide. Also store my tea pot there. Tea? That's one whole upper cabinet! Canned goods? ....take up a double cabinet along with my air popper. My dining table has been taken over by plants..
Even though I have a little more than her, i grocery shop once per week and only buy what I need for the week. I do not have excess in my cupboards/fridge/freezer and I do not eat out. I only buy the things I eat when I run out so I don’t store “backups”. I have zero baking supplies and dont use many condiments at all. Not everyone likes to bake or cook large meals. Nothing wrong with liking it; just saying not everyone does. I definitely don’t:)
I'm curious to know what you do with your time. You seem to have quite a bit. You don't have to spend a long time cleaning, or searching for things, and then you work from home too. Not trying to be rude at all. Just very curious.
P Webb it means she assumes that everyone has a dishwasher, & maybe in a minimalist kitchen they should not have a dishwasher, if you only have 4 plates. Waste of water and electricity!
P Webb well than it is not a minimalist kitchen ;-) and it is offensive to the poor to asume they own a dishwasher when they do not. Like saying go and buy food but how with no money. Get it. The poor are the real minimalists in this world.
Domi M It absolutely is a minimalist kitchen. You don't get to define somebody else's minimalism. Minimalism looks different for everyone. & you're a moron if you think she insulted anybody by owning a dishwasher. For all you know that dishwasher was there when she moved in. Minimalism is not about wastefully throwing away useful appliances. And she never told anybody to go buy a dishwasher.
Less disposable cloths bc “bleach”. As w toilet paper. I’ve been transitioning to cloth washables for toileting. It’s easier and more practical!

Wouldn't using cloths instead of paper products create more laundry and waste time? The environment is beyond help anyway.. I only recycle because it saves money on trash bags.

Zuzana Šplhová I noticed that too!
thanks to you i became aware of what minimalism was, now i'm a fan of yours. i love your videos. My life is changing. Thank you

WOW That's great! I guess it takes a lot of dedication.
be careful
the mitts on the outlet is a fire hazard.
i love your videos that aside.
thanks for sharing
THANK YOU!! I just found this video and am watching for the first time, and immediately thought "fire hazard" when I saw the mitts.

Susan Jenson a smaller fridge would also decrease her utility bill, why cool and freeze such large spaces if you don't use them.
Love the video! Thank you for posting it!! I would love more information on your recipe cards and cheat sheets/cards for cooking. I'm looking for a more simplified meals/planning and grocery shopping.
I would love to know, how do you make your own Deo?😊
Thanks for the great tips! I'm going to try these out.
Claire Jones me too! I'm want to know. I use baking soda (bicarbonato de sodio) and it works really well
vane mmmm really? How do you do it? I would ike to know. 😊
I like your video . Now i found my things immediately and more organize . Thank you for the info .
this makes my pantry look like a supermarket lol
I love that you cats name is Pat.
I bought d corella plates in love with dem thanks
Since you rarely hand wash items, do you run the dishwasher a lot considering you only have place settings for 4 (I'm especially thinking of the cutlery). Love the videos - thanks!
I think it is not good for the environment running the dishwasher for 4 plates! why does a minimalist need a dishwasher?
Hi Melody, I am curious as to why you have your onion station raised?
In my kitchen, I have placed a magnetic strip onto the wall and I place my knife, sharpener, scissors or you could hang anything else that is metal. Oh. good idea for the fan. My fish tank broke tonight and the wet dry vac can only do so much for the carpet. Super happy I can pause the video.
I love your videos. I'm looking forward to next one!
love your kitchen! beautifully organized ^_^
thank you for the tips! P.S.: I think you shouldn't put weight on your scale, it might affect its precision. :)
Love, love, love that top!! Can I ask where you got it and what the brand is?
Hi! How do you make your own deodorant?
I don't recall seeing where / how you store your cat's litter box, I'd be very interested in a video about living with a cat!
She has a minimalist cat video!
Melody, you need to come back and re-do our pantry. It could be a 10 part video. LOL!!
Love this! Just curious, do you use Tupperware for leftovers? I didnt see any in your tour and for me that's one of the biggest pains to store. Thanks!
I used to have a kitchen that was set up like yours!!! Gosh , I miss that kitchen!! ;b
I don't have an oven, only a two burner range, so I don't do any baking (unless it's raw). I simply have a kettle, pot, wok, and crock pot. Sonya Barnes the toaster was in the cupboard, but I'd be lost without a microwave!
I must have just missed it!
Easy to go without a coffee pot if you don't drink coffee! Toasters aren't always necessary... But no microwave? I don't know how I'd live.
courtniebri with corolla plates u can heat up your food in d oven
I manage fine without a microwave. What would you use it for anyway? I don't think it's healthy.
I hope the flood damage is minimal. Good luck with drying everything out. Your next house should be on stilts :) (typical Queensland, Australian house).
Maybe a floating house
Wondering what you would suggest using for mold in the kitchen . Here in Hawaii the dish drainer seems to get black so fast. Bleach ?
I don't have a strainer because I throw everything in the garbage disposal, but hydrogen peroxide works great on mold.
Dawn Faialaga u mean a dish drainer to let your dishes dry ? I have metal one and it never has mildew ... we have had plastic ones that always have mildew
Where is your table from?
What kind of crockpot to you have. Didn't see it on the list. Enjoy your video's so much!
Thanks, Melody! Just a hint...rice is best kept in the dark, it helps to preserve it.☺ Sorry to hear about your flooded apartment...hope it will be dried out soon.
I always enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing...
Love the clean look of your home. How do you get rid of the labels?

Pat ♥♥
can you post your recipe cards?
great tips! My kitchen is definitely the most UNORGANIZED space in my home lol we're working on it but it's stressful!
**Side note: How do you make your deoderant!???
BeccaKing89 I was wondering that too.
Donna M yes! I'm curious now!
Ohm I really really like how you have your kitchen organise, looks like mine, but still u give me a couple of ideas, thanks

Does it get dusty or grimey under your salt and pepper shelves? I cook a lot so the top of my stove needs to be cleaned often.
My kitchen is my nemesis. It is by far the biggest goal I have to tackle. I really would love to just throw everything away and start over fresh, but I would feel guilty about wasting it all.

Just curious why you keep around the foil and tuna fish cans if you don't use them? Is there something else that can prop up the onions?
nice kitchen very tidy
I was so waiting for the camera to turn to your huge aloe vera. But it didn't happen! I love aloe veras and yours looks so good.
how much rice do you eat?
Best thing for knives is a magnetic bar near your splash back prep area. All knives up out of the way, but quick access and quick put away. I quickly rinse knives and put straight back after use.
Now I just need drawer organizers so I can combine utensils and silverware in one drawer!
You don't need anything else other than your kettle and your crock pot do you? (maybe keep the fridge) :)
Great video 💕💕💕💕
Thx melody lots of helpful info as usual. You don't sound like your happy self though hope everything is ok!:) or is it the flooding that has u down?
Hi may I ask where u got that bag thingy for the napkins? The one that has a slit in the middle that looks like a kleenex tissue box but in a bag form? I want to get one for all those napkins I get from fast food places. Ty
Hi I Am she said in another video they are repurposed kleenex packs
They are Puff holders.
Target has them. They are called Puffs SoftPack.
hi where can I purchase is eating cutlery (sppon, folks..)?
Love your video.....I was just curious...do you keep glass cleaner? Furniture polish? Extra paper towels? Trash bags? ....ect..ect....I saw the Peroxide in spray bottle? I want an empty kitchen also..but was wondering about these items especially...........thanks so much...
Cathy Combs 🤣🤣
She has said that she pretty much only cleans with vinegar and water.
Yeah I was wondering that too. About the peroxide. It looks great. Going to be hard to let go of bleach though. What is the ratio of vinegar to water?
Rene Axner I have a spray bottle with half vinegar, half water to clean and another with half isopropyl alcohol, half water to sanitize.
telling wonderful 🖒
Do you have a microwave?
Amazing video but it seems weird to me because I recognize the music of Des chiffres et des lettres at the beginning and the end.
great tips but aren't they similar to ones you already shared.
more Pat!
I know n feely on the flooding..Our apt flooded..one of many places..
Now you get get to that paint and put your handrail back up. 😀
You're very pretty!
You seem kind of down in the beginning of this video. Hope you're feeling alright.
My fish are fine. We baled them out b4 it drained all out.
I'm curious to know what you do with your time. You seem to have quite a bit. You don't have to spend a long time cleaning, or searching for things, and then you work from home too.
Not trying to be rude at all. Just very curious.
one potatoe :D
sorry, just seemed funny to me
Claudius Buser same here
sorry but not everyone has a dishwasher!
Domi M What the heck does that mean?
P Webb it means she assumes that everyone has a dishwasher, & maybe in a minimalist kitchen they should not have a dishwasher, if you only have 4 plates. Waste of water and electricity!
Domi M I think she was talking about her own kitchen. There's nothing offensive there.
Swap out the knife block for a wall magnet. :)
Very nice bit a few plants more around the house will give a bit more colour ad it is now your house is a bit lifeless. 😜😗
I wonder if being a Minimalist can become an addiction?
Less disposable cloths bc “bleach”. As w toilet paper. I’ve been transitioning to cloth washables for toileting. It’s easier and more practical!
Wouldn't using cloths instead of paper products create more laundry and waste time? The environment is beyond help anyway.. I only recycle because it saves money on trash bags.
Old mother Hubbard went to the cupboard and it was bare 😐
