Could you do something on the diamondbacks, I don’t care if it’s player or team oriented. Loved the Corbin video and it’s rare I get to watch cool stuff on my team. Keep up the good work!
Microwave pro-tip I learned when I turned pro at the age of 19 in the Microwave League: Press the +30 seconds button 4x instead of mashing 2-0-0-start. This requires far less precision and is much easier on your UCL in the long-run. Happy microwaving!
Interesting theory. 2-0-0 only requires three button presses though. Probably a negligible difference once you factor in having to move the finger from 2 to 0.
Don’t forget about the 4th press for “start”! This is commonly overlooked, even in our statistics-driven era (If your microwave requires you to press start to use the +30 sec button, then (1) I’m sorry and (2) while technically more presses it’s still probably a wash to your point about having to move your finger)
@@FoolishBaseballdepending on the initial position of the hand and button pressing ability of different fingers you wouldn't need to even move any fingers to press 2-0-0
On my microwave, the 1-5 buttons are shortcuts to start cooking at 100% for 1 minute to 5 minutes respectively with just a single button press. (If you need to bypass those shortcuts, you need to press the "Cook Time" button first.) Meanwhile, the number 9 button is still very rarely used.
Other Microwave tips: 1. Above-stove and other 'installed' Microwaves seem to have a capped power limit lower than counter-top or other portable Microwaves, which in my experience can make higher wattage Microwaves much faster and 2. Power percentage only changes the duty cycle (ratio of on/off) and not the power output, making it practically useless for better results and more even cooking. 3. Advertised power includes fan/lights and losses, it's only the input power while the cooking output is 1kW for my Samsung that appears to be the same as in this video. It's better than my old Microwave but (significantly) slower than a Smart countertop model we had in the mid 2000s amongst others.
I think this is the absolute closest OOTP and real baseball will ever get to each other. I swear I do this every year there's a rule 5 eligible with 3 or more stars of potential, and now I feel bad about it. Thanks Bailey
I think the solution is easy. Just make it that contracts with failed physicals, where no game where ever played, don't count for the number of contracts necessary for rule 5 eligibility.
@Onlinerando This isn't about service time, it's about thee first-contract stipulation to Rule 5 eligibility. Service time has nothing to do with whether it's your first contract or your thirtieth.

@@FoolishBaseball I think MLB should do this for Spring Training non roster invitees. Didn't the yanks almost run out of numbers in spring training one time?
Fun fact about Johan Santana that nobody talks about: He was briefly with the Marlins. The Marlins plucked him from the Astros as a Rule 5 Draft pick, then almost immediately traded him to the Twins for Jared Camp. Jared Camp never reached the majors, and Johan Santana became a borderline Hall of Famer.

As always, a fire Baseball Bits episode. I'm of the opinion that it was both a blessing and a curse. That one year of Major League pay might have been the financial stability needed to bridge the gap to the developmental deal with the Giants, which could be Elvis's big chance to show that he is Major League ready just about on schedule for a decent length career. He's only 24 this year, and plenty of pitchers don't make it to the show until they turn 25 or 26. This story isn't over, and I look forward to the follow up in around 5 years when he's won a Cy Young Award.
My Favorite Rule 5 draft pick for the Texas Rangers was Delino DeShields JR. IN 2015 he was a solid utility player with a 344 OBP and 25 stolen bases. He had a specialty for Sacrifice hits, leading the league in them 3x in his 7 year career.

Still watching the video, but as a Royal's fan, I remember when I first heard the Blue Jays were selecting Luciano in the Rule 5 Draft, and I immediately went "Why?". It's not like he was a big top prospect in our system, and I knew at the time that the Blue Jays were gonna mess up his development by rushing him to Big Leagues. And it turns out I was sadly right.
He got to stare down batters weekly. Archie "Moonlight" Graham was stuck playing the outfield for one inning and only got to see a big league pitcher as "Shoeless" Joe Jackson's teammate in Iowa that one time. The Rule 5 draft makes big league dreams come true, kid. You don't have to play near some cornfield in Iowa anymore.
It's kind of a sad story in that he's not made it back since then, but it's also a happy one because he got to be a big leaguer for a full season, which many minor leaguers will never be able to say
That seems like telling a high-schooler they don't get to go to college and they have to start working in a field where you should at least have a bachelor's, then if they fail blaming them for it
Noah Song caught a bit of a raw deal last year. Taken from Boston by Philly after missing multiple years due to mandatory military service. Spent most or all of the year on the IL, for what may have been a phantom injury, only to eventually be returned to the Sox. In the end it just felt like the Phillies wasted a year of potential development for a guy who at 26 years old doesn’t have time to waste. Pretty sad honestly. Makes you think that certain exceptions should be made sometimes
On the other hand, after missing several years and trying to pitch again, it seems pretty likely that he'd get injured, plus the Phillies didn't even keep him after the season was over.
Phillies fan here. I was excited for Song and thought it could be a sneaky move. By all accounts, from what I have seen (and i follow the team closely) is that they werent trying to waste anything and actually thought he could help. The injury was not phantom, and when he came back he was only throwing 91-93. They had no choice but to offer him back. I hope he eventually makes it, but those injuries may have done a number on his arm already.
He only got 80,000 as a signing bonus from the DR, but made over half a million in his one big league year. And I don’t get the sense he was wealthy when he was in the DR. I also don’t get the sense Luciano had much upside potential.
Based on the title I thought this might be about David Clyde. That loophole needs to be closed, but of course it won't be because it so rarely applies it isn't worth being a bargaining chip.
part of the reason Allen Cordoba never returned to the majors was a seriour injury after a car accident in Panama. i believe then he returned to the Padres an played AAA for some time.
