Whoever had the foresight to record and the generosity to upload this video needs a Nobel Prize.
Saw this tour in SF and it was AMAZING. They will never be replicated.
right? i was there too; we are lucky
This was, without a doubt, their most personal and intimate, world tour. The reason for the incomplete nature of some of these songs is not because the band played them that way but rather the person who made this recording. He’s a friend of mine and actually turned off the camera at times. He was recording bits and pieces to possibly use in a later video that never came to pass. To my knowledge this is THE ONLY video footage to surface from this final tour. Remember this was pre-smart phone era. It’s unfortunate that the recording is incomplete. However, I am so grateful that it does exist. I saw them in Boston and NYC on this tour about a week prior to this show. They were in their finest form and Liz had just recovered her vocal range after losing it during the recording of Four Calendar Cafe. The intimate nature of this tour was chosen by the band as highly appropriate for the acoustic nature of some of the new songs as well as the 3 song set which Mark Clifford (seefeel) remixed live in concert with them each night. After playing huge concert halls and auditoriums on the 4CC tour 2 years prior the band AND the fans welcomed the small venues. This also made it much easier for die hard fans to stay after and interact with Robin, Simon and Liz as well as the touring musicians, Russell Fong, Mitsuo Tate and Benny DiMassa (live drummer). The band were usually always very welcoming, easy to talk to and even encouraged following them around as tour junkies. I just wish they would release the soundboard recording made in Paris on May 28, 1996, a month prior to this DV8 show. I have heard 5 songs from that recording and it is sublime. The seefeel 3 song live remix set was intended to be a possible cd-single future release. When the band split in 1997 all thoughts of that went by the wayside. Long live the Cocteau Twins. 💜
I was there. It was a small art deco building club, near the Space Needle. An intimate, confined yet vastly ethereal and soundly spacious with these angels playing. They played and my mind stretched to meet the sound. wow
If you really were I hope you were high on something!
What’s the club called?
@@domiti9481DV8 - i was there as well. It was a "all ages" club
24 years later I'm still wracked with adoration for her
Unique group in history of 20th C. music.
In hindset now it is clear how far outside and above the norm they were.
I mean, they fucking INVENTED DREAM POP/SHOEGAZE. One cannot ignore their impact on music, if you do so, you do it at your own peril. They took their early "Banshees" sound and experimented with it and took it in a new direction, and created something entirely new.
Amazing. THE VOICE OF GOD.
just imagining God busting out these vocals. incredibly true
Liz, Bjork and Kate Bush ❤
This is BY FAR their best live appearance.
Concert at iRoyall Albert Hall in London is better ( 1996 )
Amazing version of Pitch the Baby!!!! I could never thought it being played this way live. Perfection!
The track was reworked by Mark Clifford (Seefeel) who also made the 'Otherness' EP. You can see him on stage next to Elizabeth.
Liz Frazer is the most wonderful human being to ever walk the face of the earth. Sing Liz, smile, and sing and sing to make us happy.
I was at this show at DV8. It was pretty great. All I wanted was for them to turn her mike up just a hair... I remember at one point she said that she was exhausted.
20:06 Pitch The Baby
26:51 I Wear you Ring
Best band ever
blue bell knoll proves once again it has the best ending of any cocteau twins song
Woah. I was at this concert! Thanks for posting!
What venue was this?
@@jonathanfoutz8931DV8 was the name of the venue. I was there too!
I was there too.
Wow! Thank you so much for posting! If I'd known that I was attending their last Seattle concert during the show, I probably would have wept, especially during the dramatic extended Blue Bell Knoll finale.
Это любимая вокалистка в моей жизни . Впервые услышал в 1985 году . Жаль никогда не смогу увидеть прекрасную Элизабет в живом исполнении
thank you so much for posting this! i only got to see the cocteau twins once live in philadelphia, pa, but i did get to see liz singing with massive attack on the mezzanine anniversary tour. pure magic 💫
This is a treasure. We get to see them up close and personal (in some parts). And some of the songs had acoustic renditions of them like we’ve never heard before. They all look great and sound great! I also love the lighting Setup they have with the different variety of projections.
Un saludo para la persona que le regaló flores❤
amazing. Only can say that.
God bless them. Thanks very much for sharing!
One of their best live performances on UA-cam and in the USA of all places
Was fortunate to be at this exact show, but my memory of it was getting pretty hazy, so thank you for posting!
Long time fan that never got to see them play, but it just occured to me that the studio vocals on those tracks set her up to having to pull off the near impossible when in the road. I'd imagine that must have been extremely stressful. If you don't know, the vocal cords can be unpredictable, and an off night can be a humiliation for a singer.
I’ve seen them multiple times live. Some were really awful ( one on Nancy, France, in particular). Others were Heaven, really. The Zenith concert in Paris for 4 calendar cafe was otherworldly. I still remember her singing Pur and Aikea Guinea like a nightingale. And I was right under her nose lol. It was an experience.
Wow!! Many thanks for posting this. It must be one of their last live performances
He esperado por años ver cantar a Liz calfskin smack
Hermoso... ❤️
Amazing! thank you for the upload ♡
Thanks for this.
First YT video I’ve seen with 0 dislikes
Amazing!!!!
Muchas gracias por subirlo, me encantó
Wooow... Que joya excelente 👍👍😎
Scotland's DreamPopShoegaze fire🔥🔥🎸🎹🥁🎸🎹🥁🔥🏴
oh Jesus thank you lol 😭🙏🏽
Astonishing to think that in 96 they were still playing venues this small !!!😲. When i saw them play Bristol Colston Hall in 81? that must have been 3 times the size of this at least !!!
That was fire!
Thank You Very Much... TYYYYVM
thank you for sharing this!

🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Its a big long set for this tiny voice, I'm impressed, it's hard to find your pitch in this wash of guitars
ella to much please new material ..................aa love you
to
I wish I couldve been her back up vocalist. Dress on all black and just like support her kn some track. Man
This is one of their last concerts :(
Vaguely hints at what their studio sound was like...
How to bring a blush to Elisabeth Fraser. Just cover her in fluffy tufts. 😘
I didn’t know they used live drummer!
:D
ପ(´‘▽‘`)ଓ amo Cocteau Twins (っ´ ˘ `ς) saludos!🌈✨
I still think it’s weird I’ve never met anyone else in my life who was into Cocteau Twins… seems almost cruel. O well.
❤
she just skipped over the best parts of calfskin smack .. i'm sad
born too late..
You just admitted that
i watched this drunk on mango pineapple svedka muted on my laptop while listening to beyonce's dangerously in love and anohni's hopelessness on my iphone
You legend

Uh
That must have been pretty dreary. Playing little clubs and just making enough for food and gas.
BUUUUULLshit. Simply because it looks like a smaller venue doesn't mean they didn't get a decent guarantee. I've booked bands into venues smaller and watched them walk out with $1000 easily, that would way cover gas and food and more. And most bands are fed a meal as part of their rider. They were playing 1000, 1200 seat venues for a large portion of their US career.
Is that Mitsuo Tate?
Why is the stage so small? Didn't CT deserve something better, bigger?
I saw them play at a venue in 1994 that holds about 1200 people. They played at the same venue in 1985. Sometimes you have to do what you can, and this was at the tail end of their touring career.
Unfortunately masses love crap. Gems like cocteaues are underrated
Love them.
Also the most boring live act I've ever seen.
They were not a band you went to watch, more a band you went to listen to. You went for the electric experience of hearing that music brought to life in front of you by the band. The same reason you would go see an orchestra.
