Im an experienced mechanic and just bought some of these today. These traps have been whooping my ass for 30 minutes and somehow I'm bleeding now. Lol. Let me try one more time..... Ok it took a while but I got it.😮 FML thanks for the video.
Every now and then I will stick a 1.5 or a #2 long spring in front of a mink box. I can use up to a 160 with no restrictions on how far the slots need to be in the box to hold the conibear, but I can use as big as a 330. Only with anything bigger then the 160 the slots must be set back 7 inch's from the opening of the box set. I cut mine back 10-12 inch's so the springs are not resting on the back of the slot, but are still 7.5-8 inch's back. I am looking forward to see more of input on trapping methods. Take care and have a good one.
This is one of my favorite traps. #11LS all the way. Question for you. I sometimes get rabbits in mine, but not often. Really good for muskrat and coon, and I get success trapping those. But placing it on a rabbit trail, I often have it sprung with nothing in it. Any way to use it to target rabbits specifically? Thank you.
+Yooper Digger57 Yep - when the hands get cold and muddy those long sperings are easier to hold onto than the little coil spring levers. Thanks for watching!
I have done some trapping of groundhogs here, which are supersized versions of prairie dogs. When I trap ground hogs I use a conibear placed over the hole in the ground where they enter/exit. Not footholds. I have ZERO experience with prairie dogs - but given that they live in dens like ground hogs, I would assume that body grips over a den would be the best choice. Just a supposition - like I say I've never even seen a prairie dog.
This is the trap pan. It took me forever to find also. They are not advertised as sleepy creek 11 pans but once you read the whole description you discover that it fits #11 double long springs. www.wildrivertraps.com/products/1-5-double-post-pans-dozen
Great information my friend! Question: We have raccoons, squirrels, and opossums in my immediate area. Would this setup work for me? Also, what type of bait should I use? Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the info my friend! I would very much LOVE to see your urban trapping setup! I'm sure that would help me out GREATLY in the area I live in. Thank you for ALL that you share. :-)
I do get some but with the double longspings I dont get many pullouts. Id rather have a toe catch than a miss and I feel like Id miss more without the big pans. No real proof either way so its more personal preference I guess.
I don't own any #11's, but I will probably get a few! I've still got to invest in some TS 85's! They just weren't in the budget this season. I've seen you use those with great efficiency as well. In short the #11's and the TS 85's are on my wishlist ! Great video Tim as always!
+Todd Wittenmyer Yeah those TS-85's are real machines. Last time Clint Locklear was down here at my place he showed me his TS-85's. He welds a double jaw on them - amazing traps.
+Mr. Polecat I use whole ear corn for bait. It's easily seen and a good attractor. I like footholds the best for squirrels as I have fewer refusals to enter than with conibears, no knockdowns of blow downs like can happen with snares, and I have never caught a bird in a pole set with a foot hold. I think angling the pole helps eliminate the bird problems.
I got a few of them but there are old ! I think I am going to retire them ! Hang them on wall ! Get me some more new ones ! I enjoy the video that you put out !
I love those double long springs, they do give you some nostalgia they put me in the mind of the old time trappers during the heart of the fur trade
Even better the double jaw number 11 properly anchored and swiveled will hold just about anything up to and including otter
Tim,
Once again, a Perfect illustration, backed up with knowledge. It does not get better than this! Bulldog
Thanks Bulldog. I really appreciate that.

I'm with you, I really like the #11 double long spring traps.
Great ideals on how to use this trap. Appreciate your time helping us all out. Take care and good luck trapping.
No problem and thanks for watching!
I take countless amounts of fur with long springs. Great video keep um rolling!
Thanks buddy! The old long springs just plain work! Thanks for watching!

I use boxes and 110 conibars now but I used to use that pole set 40 years ago for martin.
For a 15 yr old trap, it's not got much rust. What do you coat them with?

I love the long springs on my water line there easier to set for me when I'm wadding lol thanks for the video

You can bet I well add a few to my traps. thanks.
While we do have arboreal squirrels where I live, they aren't as numerous as prairie dogs. Will this trap be right for them?
I have done some trapping of groundhogs here, which are supersized versions of prairie dogs. When I trap ground hogs I use a conibear placed over the hole in the ground where they enter/exit. How to buy snare device
Also, would you please provide the link to where the pans could be purchased? What size are the pans? Thanks again. :-)
+imasurvivornthriver These are the ones I use: www.wildrivertraps.com/collections/replacement-pans-2/products/1-5-double-post-pans-dozen
Thank you very much!
Have you ever had any bad experiences with the dog facing away from your pocket sets with the #11’s ?
How are your traps prepared? Are they painted? I've tried the dying and waxing, and my traps don't look anywhere near that good. Thanks!
Those traps were painted. Most of the time I use Formula One trap dip but when I only have a few traps I will just spray paint them.
What website do you go to for the bigger pan? couldn't find one on wild river traps

imasurvivornthriver trapping badger and putting fur up
OK thanks I will be on my way to buy some
I know if you're careful and an expert nothing will happen but I still cringed everytime you touched those pans 😂😂😂
Do you wax your long spring traps?
No, since I am a water trapper I do not use wax at all. I use either paint or trap dip.
Best mink trap there is.
Another good one! Thanks
Nice job and thanks for sharing.
Thanks buddy!
might want to buy all your sleepy creek traps they are going out of business or selling out!
don't ya get a lot of toe catches with the larger pan?
I do get some but with the double longspings I dont get many pullouts. Id rather have a toe catch than a miss and I feel like Id miss more without the big pans. No real proof either way so its more personal preference I guess.
The Meat Trapper You can still catch some with the regular trap right?

What do you use as bait for the squirrels? Do you find that the leg hold traps work significantly better for them than a snare pole?
Thanks, man.

Ive had a lot of pullouts with raccoons with that trap , it juts didn't have the holding power of a 1 1/2 coil !!
Juts??

+WildByNature It will not let you down my friend. What gets in will not get out.
I just heard today that Sleepy Creek is going out of business,a shame they are a quality trap.
i have some victor # 11s im bringing back to service as soon as the buttholes in new york allow us to have traps in the water (nov. 25th).
+PhattDawg Trapping It's Nov 21 here. I'm getting tired of talking about trapping and ready to actually do some for a change!
