- The new Obsession Lawless compound bow is IBO rating 370 fps, Brace Height 5.125", Weight 4.5#, Axle to Axle 32.75". Draw length adjustable 24.5-30" by changing modules.
We look at the Obession Lawless compound can compare it to the PSE Full Throttle. We shoot both bows through the chronograph. We then shoot the Lawless at 18m to see how this fast hunting bow performs.

Having watched a few of your photos over the last few weeks, I think you deserve so props for taking care of yourself. You’re shaped completely different than you were a year ago, man. Good on ya.
Awww yeah!! I have waited for your review on this bow. I truly love your reviews. Some of the most straight forward and honest reviewers. Thanks for all your work
Steven I know xpedition bows probably don't have a presence in Australia but I feel that being an aerospace engineering company first they make a pretty amazing product. Reportedly they actually reach their ibo rated speeds whereas others inflate that number. That being said I would love to see the xpedition mako x make it thru you review process. Hope you could make that happen.
Most bows don't reach their IBO speed ratings. But Obsession doesn't even come close. And the net effect is that they are starting to hurt their reputation. When Obsession first hit the market they grew quickly because people raved about how well they shot. There are multiple videos out there where people at the annual ATA show rave about the Obsessions. They worked so hard to gain a following but they are throwing it away. Word is now getting out that customer service is poor and I've heard that, as a result, quite a number of dealers are dropping them. The archery community is small and the word gets out there very quickly
Correct - I try and do all my tests set at 60# 29" with the same arrow. 330 fps is one of the fastest - the PSE Expedite I think was quick too. 300fps is very standard in my tests.
Over never had a problem with any of my obsession bows but my bow tech has been tuning and shooting obsession since they began and I think the worse IBO he has had an obsession leave his shop was around 7fps below IBO but he has also built a lot that have shot 3-5 fps over IBO and fastest was around 9fps over IBO. Obsession is growing alot more than people think and it's because people are actually getting out there and shooting them I have caught alot of people making up lies about obsession and trying to bad mouth them when that person had never picked up any of their bows. Archery community today is becoming more and more hostile each day, people see one post or one video and they bad mouth a company for without even picking up the bow and doing their own testing instead they trash talk the company because of someone else's view on the bow.
@@ArcherySuppliesLonsdale please please shot JUST ONE arrow in the PSE IBO SPEC. All I want to see is 370 in chronograph! Show chronograph speed on camera too while shooting. Don't mod out pse full throttle and strings. Un mod your pse strings so it can reach 370 fps. No one has video of any of these damn bows hitting 370fps. So I think they are both lying. Please do this video with IBO. Make it short 10mins just showing a 340 or 350 grain arrow.
I love this guys reviews. So in depth, so honest. And for an added pinch of humour he can barely ever remember the exact specs of the equipment he's testing, always makes me chuckle. I bought a PSE Expedite based on his reviews and it's a truly superb bow. Keep up the good work Stephen.
@Brian Loeffler feel to go watch something else.
The three bows i want to see in depth reviews done on such as this is the hoyt helix at 80lbs, the mathews TX-5 ( triax with a 5 inch brace height ) and the mathews vertix at 75 lbs with that switchweight technology. One of the coolest features ive seen on a bow in years, i also like what they did with the dovetail rail to mount their new QAD rest.
I noticed at 21:29 when the PSE is at full draw, the arrow is almost flush with the front of the bow riser and shot 330 fps. Then at 22:36 you draw the Lawless and the arrow is 1 - 1 1/2" past the front of the riser and you state it is a 1/2" longer draw length than the PSE. The draw lengths are either way off on the PSE or you have gotten the draw lengths backwards. You cant have a bow that is a 1/2" longer in DL and have the arrow 1 1/2" farther out in front of the riser
The overating of this bow won't sit well with buyers. Thanks for the requested video Steven. Had a blast.
I agree 100% it's BS my opinion.
I think too many people look at numbers and over think it way too often. Even if this bow hits 360 ibo it's still the fastest out there and at 90 PRECENT LETOFF that's crazy
Great, thank for the review! Results are as expected... Should try out the APA King Cobra with IBO 370 fps bow, you can even buy 90lb limbs.
The APA King Cobra XR sits on top of the speed mountain... and no other bow is actually close... the closest was the Full Throttle by PSE, but you have the option for another 20lbs of draw weight on the King Cobra, that King Cobra XR has crossbow power.
Hi Steven, i have a fx6 bow it derailed 3 times
After every 10 arrows its only just started to
Do it after 3months of use any ideas
hey bud have you ever shot the PSE x force axe 6? it's shoots the same speed as the full throttle and is an inch smaller. just wanted your opinion since I wanna get an older fast pse bow
Yes I owned one. the HF cams where first, then the Gx. Gx were smoother but more prone to derail if you torque. The bows shoot well, but customers complain about not been able to paper tune them, but pros shot them well even though they could not pper tune them.
@@ArcherySuppliesLonsdale ok. thanks for the info. in your opinion should I go with an axe 6 or just wait till a full throttle comes my way?
I love the fade on your Full Throttle! If you ever decide to sell let me know!
Sweet review Steven! The level at which Obsession seems to be overestimating the IBO speed is pretty egregious. Also, from what I can see it looks like the part of the limb pocket system that is closest to the cam is tipped forward like on the HB 33 that you reviewed earlier, or am I mistaken? I’m a way bigger fan of a one piece pivoting limb pocket system like PSE, Hoyt, Matthews, and Bear utilize. Glad to see that this bow shoots well though and that the draw cycle is nice! Keep those reviews coming! Really appreciate how candid and honest you are! 👍
Yes I should review a Bear. I like the way the one piece limb pockets lock in too. Bear took we some time to work out when I needed to replace limbs for a customer.
I just had to have some limbs replaced under warranty from bear on my arena 34 due to compression cracks. I live in America and it took them 5 weeks to get the limbs shipped to my local archery shop. Apparently they don’t stock limbs for three year old models and had to make them from scratch. They were 70lb limbs too which seems like a pretty common deflection. I feIt the wait time was pretty long. It must take them ages to get warrantied parts for older models to Australia though!
They're advertising a range of bows up to 80# then saying its a 370 fps bow. I'm betting the 370 fps is for the 80# as I assume there's nothing in the advertising claiming 370@ 60#. They should state the IBO for all versions IMO.
I made sure to look at all reviews before I commented. This is right on, I also believe IBO has nothing else on the bows, its top draw length, wait and a rest with 350 grain arrows. Obsession regardless has some of the best draw cycles there are on the market IMO.
Great video but all the makers pad their specs. Obsession just goes by 80# limbs and 30" draws. I shoot an FXL that 80 @ 30 with a 563 grain set up and it is still over 300fps
Mathews , Hoyt, pse, bowtec, and bear don't pad specs. Their always close to the top number, or exceed the ratings. Obsession bows are not even close. Unless you consider 15 fps is close.
I know this is off topic but I have a Oneida kestrel now and I need the mods? Do you have any idea where I can find them? The Oneida site only caries the mods for the newer bows
What sight do you have on the Obsession?
At 306 FPS, that would only be an IBO of like 334 according to the calculators. The Full Throttle at 330 would be an IBO of about 361, which is *much* closer to the 370 rating. It's too bad, cause the Lawless looks like a badass bow and appears to shoot really well.
He hasn't done a speed test on the lawless
@@TheSouthernObsession he hasn't? What do you call it when you shoot through a chrono then haha?
@@TheSouthernObsession @20:55
@@goory93 he didnt weigh any of the arrows or show us the specs or anything on the bows I call that just shooting through the chrono for fun. A speed test would be to show the viewer the weight of everything and the specs. On the specs of each bow and the weight of arrow he said "I think it's set at this or I think it weighs this" as a viewer I'd like to see exactly what's being tested not "I think its this" If you are doing a true speed test
@@goory93 I watched his original review on the full throttle at it was shooting 14fps+ below IBO
But on a side note I do like your video's and I do pick up some good tips from them. We don't haft to see eye to eye to learn from each other.
Would you rather have the lawless or an RX1 Turbo??
I think the rx1 looks bad arse but price point keeps most people away.
@@ArcherySuppliesLonsdale well I ask because I have a rx1turbo and a friend said he would trade his 2019 lawless for my turbo. I like my RX1 but I've never shot an obsession, wouldn't the obsession be worth more money next year? Im trying to sell it to get a Target bow.
Have heard there is a lot of lawless bows not making ibo speeds they published...
Iv only seen one video on the lawless in speed test and it was done by a kid with hoyt that didnt have a clue about the lawless.
Was that bow a 60-70lb bow? Set at 60 for the test? If it maxed oit at 60 then Perhaps my eyes were deceiving me didnt look like limbs fully wound in?
He said this in the review if you watched it. It has 65# limbs, wound down to 60.
@@goory93 oops! My mind must of wandered.v
Set at 60.5# Correct 65# bow.
Are they the same arrows as the pse evo nxt 31 you tested?
cant believe in not so many your subs, you are doin such good job, you are the man
Reckon you should shoot the pse Stinger extreme.... Youve not done a 18m test yet with the new riser design
For a dealer that has picked up Elite in this country and then laughed at what other shops are charging and saying you can't wait to compete against them, you seem to be doing a great job of avoiding doing any reviews on the bows. Don't get me wrong, i love watching your reviews to compare whats out there. Up in Qld where I am, there are a lot of Elite bows being shot, and I've noticed many people on your reviews asking for more on Elite, especially the echelon 39 - 37 and victory x. Are these reviews going to happen anytime soon, as I know many people ( myself included ) are very keen to see them.
ua-cam.com/video/pwrcHlQdcdg/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/4hWtkhI6Hsw/v-deo.html
I think I have done more Elite reviews - I pick reviews based on what people ask for and what is of interest. The Lawless was fast so I was interested to see how it shot. The Victory X I think I only sold one in 2018 and I have not sold an Echelon. I might do a Bear review next. These reviews take me 4 hours to do. I only get time on Sunday to do it as the shop is open 6 days. I also have heaps of work on at the moment with Christmas and Audits.
@@ArcherySuppliesLonsdale Stephan as I mentioned in my comment, there has been quite a few requests for reviews on the Elite bows I mentioned on your videos. I appreciate the time and effort it takes you to do these reviews, however as I stated up here in Qld there is a lot of Elite shooters. I would only be assuming that they buy from local dealers because they can try before they buy, if you were to give your personal opinion in a review it may persuade more people to buy direct from yourself at a cheaper price point. Like I said, don't get me wrong, I love watching your reviews. Some of the gear I have purchased recently has been based on your reviews. I'm just trying to convey the thoughts of some of the keen Elite shooters up this way.
@@andrewleppien8104 You should also have noticed the bit where his customer is now waiting, what was it? Six or eight weeks for his bow to arrive. How does one do a review on vapour ware?
My suggestion is to show the nubers and markings on the cam's show the limbs poundage and use same rest on both. Should take no more than 10 maybe 15 seconds to do and will put most but not all na saying to rest
Whisker bisket causes slower arrow speed?
Edit: also you cant cut off half inch on the obsession bow?
Whisker biscuits do not cut down on speed. And way easier to tune.
Anyone else notice that the lawless has a longer draw then the PSE but if that was true why was the arrow sticking out in front of the riser more on the lawless???
Thinner riser design
At the end he shows the tag where the draw length was only 28.5, half inch shorter than he thought.
Did you notice the PSE draw weight is cranked to the max and lawless was not... What I see .. rigged
Have you seen the new darton
Hmmm you actually have to shoot the bows yourself IMO to get a feel and speed. There is another video on the Tube with a gentleman testing the new OBs. He shoots FX6 FX7 FXL and lawless. The lawless records 340.8 at 60# and 28.5" draw. Now if you take IBO which would be 80# and 30", the lawless according to his testing would hit the 370 FPS. Thanks for the in depth tho, I thoroughly enjoy OB draw cycles.
IBO is 70# not 80#, but either way that shouldn't make that big of a difference because you would have to up the arrow weight to 400gr. Do you have a link to the other video, I can't find it. Thanks!
Surprising that you've not had any trouble getting parts and you live in Australia but I live in Georgia, about an hour away from where they're manufactured, and getting parts is impossible. Also, the limbs aren't different poundages. They're different deflections.
I am a beginner Archer what is a decent bow for me to start out with I'm from Monroe North Carolina
Bear cruzer
how fast is the 80# bow at 30" draw? Bet that would be much closer to 370...
Maybe with a 350gn arrow. With a 400gn arrow (5 grains per inch) it won't make up that much speed.
The let off has a large difference, so not exactly apple’s to apple’s..... 2 awesome bows.
Obsession advertises their bow speeds as "up to ---FPS". No other company tags it with "up to".
Why do they do this?
I believe it is so they can't be called out or sued for false advertising. Either that or they are chronographing all their bows at 32"+ draw length.
Probably shooting maxed out 80# at longest draw length
I might do the fast Hoyt vs the Full Throttle. But the Lawless shot great.
@@ArcherySuppliesLonsdale I would love the Hoyt turbo vs Full Throttle comparison!
Talking about the rpm 360 or insanity. Ok hope my decree dream season is,the better choice.
I may be wrong but i feel like the obsession wasnt set correctly for the performance. Or am i just assessing it wrong.
I just highly doubt that they missed by that much it just doesnt make sense
Obession is known for putting out these big ibo numbers and coming in way below when tested. Theres only a few that comes close year in and year out
Jordan Powell yeah but the amount that was under was stupidly less
No your right. In order to truly get a picture what this bow is capable of you may need shoot at 80 lbsz 30 inch dl and 350 grain arrow
@@jordanpowell228 that wouldn't be an IBO test. 5 grains per pound (350gr), 70#, 30" is where they are supposed to be tested for IBO.
Have you done a review on the speed of APA King Cobra TF also a 370fps rated bow?
No APA in my store, I think another store in Australia imports them, but I guess there would be less than 5 in Australia
Apa are fast, even their regular bows. The grips on them are terrible.
If you know what your doing this bow will come in at 358-360 ibo consistently.. That’s what it should have been rated for. All tuners aren’t created equal..
good excuse. Do you work for obsession? LOL
I test all bows the same with the same poundage and I use the same arrow. I said as I drew back this bow it felt to easy for 370 fps. You can see the difference in me pulling back the full throttle. The PSE was tough from the start, had a small valley and less let off. The Lawless much easier bow to shoot and look at the shots in the target.
lljayll No I don’t. But you can go on the Obsession Facebook group and watch ton of very well known tuners chrono the bows..
Dealer just received his first lawless and out of the box he through a whisker biscuit on it with peep and was shooting 352fps at 29"DL 70lbDW 360gr Easton arrows which should be pretty close to IBO with my calculation
mine is 60# with 327grain
Do you have a video of it? I want to see the draw length and weight tested then the arrows weighed on camera then the shots through the chrono so we can read it ourselves.
After all your comments across multiple videos on YT I gotta say, I think you are pretty biased towards obsession.
@@goory93 yes I'm going to get a video with it all made to show exactly what's going on. That way people that want to see what an obsession shoots at IBO specs can see it be shot at IBO specs and settle some of the lies people make that have never touched the bows.
Yes iv commented and asked people questions on this video and other videos because alot of people comments sound the exact same thing "iv never seen obsession bow hit IBO they fall like 20-30fps under IBO" then turns out that those people have never shot an obsession they just commented what some other guy said. I'm all for guys having their own opinions and everything and I want people to shoot whatever bow fits them but dont trash a company you never have shot. I shot every brand bow I could get my hands on Hoyts rx3, Matthew's tx5 and vertix, Obsession Lawless, and 2018 elite option 6 and ritual. That's all the bows I could shoot from 3 different dealers around me. I dont say Obsession is the best bow out there because I know everyone shoots diffrent. I just dont like guys who make crazy statements about company they have never shot or dont like. Also have helped guys understand the importance in tuning and getting to shoot a bow at it's full potential and to get out and shoot multiple bows not to settle on one their family shoots and trash talk the rest. I shot hoyt all my life till 2 years ago I gave elite a shot and really liked them and started to save up and go buy one then I shot an obsession and ended up leaving with that. I was shown by hoyt dealer what it takes to tune and shim an obsession to fit a shooter and how with time you can build one to hit the numbers and that fascinated me so I try to make sure to pass on the same knowledge to other people that want to try them out.
@@ArcherySuppliesLonsdale does your lawless have the speed or comfort mod? Guessing the comfort mod with higher letoff

@@ashmerch2558You will see on another video I compared the biscuit to qad on the Full Throttle and shot the same speed. The Full Throttle is my personal bow. Which is why it had the QAD, But I have done the Full Throttle in the same format.
@@ashmerch2558 You think a biscuit is draining off 20fps compared to a drop away? Okay then.

I did watch it hahaha, the expedite is better if your form is perfect but that drive is still amazing for the money and so forgiving.
Whats with the bowtech bashing? The last time i checked everyone raved about their twin yoke system and the ease of tuning. I could get on board if you mentioned the limb issues a few years ago but bowtech has consistently been in the top 3 of every bowhunting magazine and other bowhunting media outlets.
The topic on Bowtech in this video was their customer service. Bowtech dropped Steven because he started selling a bow brand that Bowtech wasn't happy about.
He was talking about Bowtech RPM 360 bow, not about Bowtech in general.
Ahh ok. I was gonna say which bow are you talking about because everything i read or watch has one of their flagship bows in the running for best of the test. But if their customer service is lacking or subpar, that doesn't make up for making a good bow
Well he’s missing out because the SR6 is probably the best bow of the year
@@optimuscrime608 For shorter bow, Mathews VERTIX would be my pick. I like longer target bows so I'm buying Prime CT9. I shot all new bows from Mathews, Hoyt, Bowtech, PSE and Prime.

Can you do the fx6, and fx7. Like your reviews by the way.
Yes I will be interested in these bows - The Lawless shot well for a 5" brace height.

Sorry mate but if you are going to do a comparison, you should at least do it with bows set up the same, your using a drop away rest on the PSE, but a whisker biscuit on the Obsession, whisker's are well know for slowing down an arrow, I understand it would not make a huge difference, my other note is you do not show the Chrono, I am shooting an Obsession S6Z, and I can get 334 at 70 pounds with 28 1/2 in draw, I am afraid I can not accept your review the way it is presented, and yes I think you are being pro PSE, Sorry
I sell a lot of Obsession. I have a review showing difference in speed between biscuit and drop away. Because someone mentioned that.
All bows I test with the same biscuit and sight. This FT is mine so I did not rip it down - But I did in a former video. So you can compare.
@@ArcherySuppliesLonsdale Thanks for the clarification, it does seem a little one sided, your PSE looks to be at full peak weight but the obsession as you mentioned is backed off, this would certainly account for the speed differences, that and the biscuit, sorry but this does still seem to be an unfair comparison. a comparison is meant to be like for like, either both bows need to be set up exactly the same or they should be both bare, sorry its just an opinion!
@@davidwilliams5489 your delusional. Same arrows, same draw length (see end he shows the tag) same poundage +- 1/4 pound. You think a biscuit is draining off 20+ fps? Maybe 1 or 2. Bows work by transferring the stored potential energy in the limbs via the string into the arrow as kinetic energy. The longer the arrow is under maximum wt via the sting during it's acceleration the more complete that transfer/conversion is. It's physics, not magic or wishful thinking. The draw effort is a decent rough estimate of energy stored in the limbs because the energy is first coming from your body. Easy to draw means less energy came out of your body, hard to draw means more energy came out of your body.
