Honestly that image of, death watching Travis live his life from afar, Travis going through milestones of his life, in song, while death just like... belts from the balcony how their time will come
@@hestia_or_adhdsteph Cats the movie might be better than Love Never Dies. I say this with a certain degree of confidence despite having never suffered through Cats the Movie.
The really impressive thing about Love Never Dies is they somehow found a way to ruin every surviving character from the original musical. Spoilers for a terrible musical that should never have been written: Christine cheats on her fiancé with Eric on the night before her wedding, gets pregnant by him, and tricks Raul into raising another man’s son. Raul becomes a dissolute gambler and drunk who squanders his family’s wealth, is implied to be borderline abusive, and thinks of his wife as a prize to be won rather than a human being. Mme Giry basically continues following Eric’s orders, and effectively ends up pimping out her daughter in order to support Eric’s weird Coney Island ambitions Meg turns full yandere because sempai Eric won’t notice her, uwu, and murders/accidentally kills her best friend while trying to get Eric’s attention (I believe in the first version of LND it was active murder, but they quickly edited it to the gun accidentally going off in one of the half dozen reworks the musical got) And Eric? Oh Eric, what have they done to you? The momentum of the original musical was around Eric getting increasingly possessive of Christine, until eventually in a moment of compassion triggered by being treated with kindness for the first time, he let her go. His character development was learning to care for another person’s wellbeing more than his own desires. They completely negated it. He lured her there under false pretenses, and got into a stupid bet with Raul over who would get to keep her - based on whether she sang his (admittedly quite pretty) song. Not that she knew that the choice of singing it or not was choosing which man she’d end up with. Oh no, that would be giving her some agency over her own life. Every character, just completely ruined.
Why did nobody tell Jon it was a phantom sequel hsjfgklhg. Also he’s pulling all of it straight from thin air but stg he was so confident in how he told it that I could swear he actually saw that made-up musical.
I love how these actors don't care about embarrassing themselves and just make up their own songs and plots on the spot. That's been my favorite part of the "to the best of our recollection" videos.
It kinda reminds me of the sidestory in The Adventure Zone with Taako and Kravitz. (Especially since Travis plays Magnus, and a few points fit him as well, though they’re spoilers) Idk of it would help but if you’re interested, I’d recommend it. (It’s a podcast)
Poor Meg... Once more, her limelight is cruelly stolen by Christine. She just wants to be a good friend, show her around, cheer her up, and what does she get? CONSUMPTION.
Jon enters as if on a cooking show(already hilarious) “Jon doesn’t know this is a sequel of the Phantom of the Opera.” Me: continues to laugh hysterically at his description
I am so late but literally. Was he mixing Death's and his sidekick's names? Did he already have a full casting list in mind and had Jeff as Death (because if yes, where's the production)? Is Jeff just Death and we've all been fooled in thinking he's human? Seriously, that was hilarious and has so much conspiracy theory potential
My favourite parts of this video 1. Jon not having a CLUE what he's talking about, but making a pretty good gay love story anyway 2. Gerry with a G 3. Jaime absolutely killing the made up songs 4. Lauren's floppy sleeves 5. She's 46 6. Joey's kettle corn business 7. She is 100% wrong that it's a prequel All the cast is a bunch of maniacs, I love them
jon starting at the stove like he’s cooking and then describing love never dies feels so weirdly intimate. like he invited you over for dinner and just started going off
I can see why Jeff is the songwriter and not the others. Though I would love those epic numbers - “Come on out there little death” “when we say hello it will snow” “another soul like mine” “love never dies, love is forever” “won’t you come out of retirement” “I want to see your face” “I want to see your face (reprise)” and “LOVE! Love love love love love! Love will never die!”
All I know about this is that Christine is dead, Raoul is drunk and their son is actually the Phantoms son and he goes to live with the creepy bastard. Am I at least partially correct?
Ja, Meg accidentally shoots her and there are also three circus people that live in the Phantom's circus that are just there for exposition and ended up being (in my opinion) the best characters.
Sad thing.... all their ideas are better than the actual plot of the musical. REAL PLOT: The Phantom opens a freak show on Coney Island with Madame Giry and Meg (who is now in love with him) but he can't get over Christine. In an early version, he totally has a Christine robot doll in his room for........ reasons. They cut that but IT HAPPENED. So he tricks Christine into coming to perform. So she shows up with her now drunkard husband Raoul and her son. Phantom and Christine sing this song about that one time they totally did it and go on and on and on about how they did the deed for like 5 minutes. Phantom threatens to kill the kid if Christine doesn't sing his new song but SURPRISE the kid HIS. Gasp. So Raoul gets all emo that Christine is into the Phantom so he peaces on his wife and the kid he raised. Meg gets all jealous and crazy so she's gonna kill the kid but ends up killing Christine instead by opps. So the Phantom is all sad but decides to raise his one night stand love child. The End. I AM NOT EVEN MAKING THIS SHIT UP.
I personally loved the show. I try not to view it as a sequel and it definitely helps. The music is amazing though, especially the new versions of some of the songs.
Dolores Connolly That's how I view it too. Just listening to the cast recording, the fact that Sierra Boggess and Ramin Karimloo are singing makes it nearly impossible for me to not enjoy the music. I like it as it's own body of work, but not as a sequel. I like to imagine that PTO ended the way it originally did.
I watched the filmed version from Austrailia (which is already an extremely EDITED version from the West End version. Again... Christine robot kept in his BEDROOM.) and after it was over I found myself thinking "If this WASN'T Phantom of the Opera characters, it's not bad." The production values are wonderful. If you were to keep the SAME plot, setting, story but change the characters to original, generic ones, taking a little time to put in a new backstory for them of how they got to this point... it's NOT AWFUL. But the fact that these characters are so RIDICULOUSLY different then themselves from both the book and the original musical is there it just is a sin.
Brooke Trotter she wasnt killing herself, she was trying to kill Gustav lol by drowning him in the pool. And then the Phantom was like "nu get away from my son" and she was like "ok I'll just accidentally shoot Christine instead, that works"
Astral Cosmos Celestial the Third Nah she took Gustav there either to drown him or just get their attention (it's unclear which), then when they came for him she let him go and turned the gun on herself. "Now that I've got your attention at last, here's the big finish and then you can go". The Phantom tried to talk her down but made it worse by telling her it wasn't her fault she's not as great as Christine, then wrestled the gun from her, which resulting in Christine getting shot. Not to mention the place this happened was nicknamed Suicide Hall. But I've only seen the Aussie version, so I don't know if that scene was reworked.
Astral Cosmos Celestial the Third tinyurl.com/y9cwgedj here's a gif of suicidal Meg. "Give me the gun Meg. Give me the hurt and the pain and the gun Meg". Unless you're just saying you don't believe her motives, which is a different conversation altogether, haha.
Rose Tyler to be fair, there's a musical called "Death Takes a Holiday" that's decently similar. Basically death falls in love and lives for the first time, and yeah.
Christine: (sings) Show me your face Phantom: No Christine: (sings) Shoooow me your faaaace Phantom: Fine Christine: Ah! No thanks Phantom: Ah fuck Perfect Phantom of the Opera recollection

Andrew Lloyd Webber trying to bring this horrific cash grab to life

Can Jon’s musical be the next Starkids Musical???
Lucy Latorre UHHHH YES PLEASE
it honestly wasn't a completely terrible idea XD
thanos is pretty iconic so 🤷🏽♀️
Yes please omg that would be amazing
Honestly, yes please
My friend calls it "Paint Never Dries" and that's a pretty accurate assessment.

......Jon's version actually sounds like it would be a really good musical.

How did Jon just improv describe a better musical than the actual Love Never Dies
Isabella Knight it’s not that hard to come up with a story better than Love Never Dies XD
Because any story is better then LND. Shoot, Cats is better than LND and it doesn't even have a proper story.
