      I could not get the OE carrier to fit me at all. We tried all the different settings and it was super uncomfortable but my husband is really liking it so far. I started wearing the Osprey carrier instead but the kids love both. I think the only thing not mentioned in the video is the giant sun cover that the Osprey has. It’s not necessary but I still like it. The OE has a smaller one but it’s nice that it has one.

    Went with the MiniMeis. Just made sense for me given my 2yr told from time to time wants to come down and roam wherever (be it the park, zoo, or shopping). The easy set-up and compactness just made it the best choice for an urban dwelling parent like myself. Plus, the price just adds the cherry on top.

      @@magnodavideDefinitely not ideal for long rides where your little one might fall asleep. That being said, if the shoulder harnesses are fasten, it will keep your little one from tilting over laterally. The comfort of the MiniMeis is also not meant for long uses.

    Talk about 'apples and oranges'! The Minimeis and the other 2 are aimed at quite different markets and it's really unfair to compare them. I don't have a MiniMeis yet, but think it's a brilliant concept - perfect for short trips like going shopping or walking down to the park. When our kids were small, I often carried them on my shoulders - this is a great way to do that 'hands free'.
    I plan to get one for our granddaughter.

    I personally bought the Minimeis since we go often to Disneyland and DCA. I’m about 5’7 and Daughter is 21 months. For me it’s extremely easy to setup and bring down when you’re about to get in a ride. If you place it correctly on your shoulders it won’t be bother at all and I’m using it throughout both parks. My Daughter only lays in the stroller when sleeping. We are normally in the parks from 10:00 am to closing (Midnight) and I’m fine with no pain or discomfort. Other carriers seemed to bulky.

    Points total at the end is completely wrong. 10:30 Based on his review:
    Osprey: 1 weight + 2 endurance + 1 functionality + 2 setup + 0 price = 6 total (not 5!)
    OE Carrier: 2 weight + 1 endurance + 2 functionality + 0 setup + 1 price = 6 total (not 7!)
    Minimeis: 0 weight + 0 endurance + 0 functionality + 2 setup + 2 price + 4 total (not 8!)
    Weight, endurance and functionality are far more important than whether a carrier takes 10 seconds or 30 seconds to setup.
    I would also argue that price is least important since it changes (on Amazon UK the OE Carrier is £129 and Minimeis £169)
    If you will only use it for short trips to the park, the Minimeis is absolutely the best, but any longer and you are going to put a lot of stress on your spine. For a few hours hiking the OE Carrier or Osprey are far more appropriate, and less likely to damage your spine.

      Thanks Michael for the comment. The one I use the most is the Minimeis. The reason why is because I throw it in the car and I use it when I go to the grocery store with my youngest. He has lots of energy so I like how I can keep him from touching everything. He likes it because he can still see everything and say Hi to everybody passing by. But for long outings outside I take the OE or Osprey. It all just depends on what you are planning to use it for. Hope that helps

    The idea of taking s child hiking is not idea to me. I'm in the market for less weight and portability to negate packing a stroller for a trip to the beach or park. Durability is not an issue my children grow faster than the average kiddos. There's no such thing as comfort when it comes to kids... Stability is important and a sunshade is important. The Minimeis can be sold with a sunshade, I might go that route.

    I have to disagree big time on endurance. I have to Osprey Poco and the waist band is worthless, It never takes weight off my shoulders, I have to tighten it so much is cuts of blood flow to get it to stay up. Otherwise is just slides down and does nothing. My shoulders end up hurting very early on in our walks. So much so that is why I am looking at these videos right now, trying to find a replacement for our Osprey Poco.

    So I’m 5’1 and 110. I am going to be hiking different places cross county with my 2 year old. I was REALLY into the OE but from your video it seems I would want osprey. I think either way I’m looking at discomfort 😂 just which will allow me to go the furthest miles. Uhh such an expense I want to make sure I make a good choice. I feel because I am petite, I’m going to have issues with that with whatever I get.

    • @TheBackyardBucketlist

      I would 100% recommend the Osprey for your specific adventures. It is one of the lightest “backpacking” child carriers on the market, and the frame can be adjusted based on height. Another benefit is the kick out supports that allow you take it off and set it down with the child still sitting inside, as well as some generous storage pockets. My wife and I both think you’ll be happiest with the Osprey :)
      As far as your concern about your height, we think with the adjustable frame it should fit fine, but since it is a considerable purchase you could to go to an REI or another local outdoor store to try one on before purchase.

    The OE got 8pts. Because in that last section you awarded it 2nd but gave it zero points.
    I also feel like you went out of your way to not say anything bad about the minimeis. Sure it's compact and convenient, but it is not comfortable at all. The whole time I'm wearing I'm only thinking about how I would design it better. I've used it on my 3yo and my 10 month old and with both kids it's not fun to wear. My wife will not wear it.

    • @TheBackyardBucketlist

      Awesome, thanks for reaching out. First off I want to say I hope you have a fun time in Yosemite! If you were planning to buy a carrier mainly for hiking I would recommend the Osprey Poco, because it's a little more sturdy and I like the kickstand that can prop open to hold the carrier up on the ground and your child can sit in there while your getting situated or taking a break. If your looking to use the carrier for shorter activities like the zoo, going to the city, etc. I would recommend the OE Carrier due to being more compact than the Osprey Poco. Hope that helps!

    • @samsaltwell
      @samsaltwell Рік тому

      A baby will be comfortable in all three, though due to being on your shoulders they are higher in the Osprey and Minimeis - so a greater danger from low hanging branches/doorframes etc if you are not vigilant. On the other hand the baby will have a much better (i.e. less obstructed) view up there.

    Thanks for this video! I love how structured you presented everything, and you covered a lot of points. I do have a comment about the comfort rating, though. Structure/form is more important than weight-- I can lift 140lbs with good form with no problem (COMFORT!), but if I have poor form, I have difficulty lifting just 70lbs (PAINFUL)! So for comfort, I unfortunately have to disagree with your point distribution. Plus, the OE does not distribute weight to the waste when the child is on your shoulders (at least not in comparison to hiking carriers)-- that is just misleading marketing on OE's part. Also, I would have loved if you had done a rating on the quality of the actual product itself (this is surely important to people other than myself)! A hiking blogger who owns both the Deuter (more comparable to the Osprey) and the Minimeis tried the OE Carrier for the sake of reviewing it and said it felt very flimsy and the fabric was fraying/curling in some places. The quality does not compare to the Deuter and the Minimeis, according to her and her hiking experience. I would have been interested to hear your take on that!

      Hi there. Can you tell us which hiking blogger was that who tried our carrier because we would like to send her an updated version to try with more consistency in quality. Also our carrier do distribute weight on your shoulder if you adjust the length of the frame properly. It is not a misleading marketing point.

    • @TheBackyardBucketlist
      @TheBackyardBucketlist  3 роки тому +1

      I would say depends on the size of your child. But I would say 30-45 mins on average. Age of your child makes a big difference in the amount of time or distance you can wear it.

      @@timothydhondt5402 the frequency does not make it "in between." So, going on a 7 hour hike once every 3 months vs going on a 7 hour hike once every week, you'll still be doing the 7 hour hike. And for that, great support is needed. The length of time that strain is placed on a back is what is tiring, not the frequency. In fact, some could actually argue the opposite point (that hiking long hikes more frequently would create a strength and tolerance for it), but that's another discussion.
