Here is a video on how to do taxidermy to you own catches. In this 10 minute video I cover the entire process on how to mount a fish yourself. Enjoy the Do it Yourself Taxidermy - Bluegill. Leave a comment and subscribe for more.
Dude is Super nonchalant about it. He casually did this so perfectly and paid attention to so many details. Well done !
Thanks you, I appreciate the comment!
A new skill to learn this closed medical season. Thanks. From Kenya 🇰🇪
As an aspiring wildlife artist and possible taxidermist, this was extremely helpful! Also amazing job!
I appreciate the comment! If you ever have any questions that I can answer let me know!

Amazing job! Always been a dream of mine to get into taxidermy. And this video completely inspired me.. thanks!
No problem, thanks for watching. Give it a try!
Beautiful job man, interesting stuff👍

Thanks I appreciate the comment!
Defenetly your best work wow that looked amazing
Thanks for the comment I appreciate it!
Noproblem
Thnk u.
Bro, that’s some expert work. If it’s pretty easy for you, open up a shop! I just caught a 11 inch long 6 inch high bluegill. Was looking for taxidermy and found your channel!
Nice fish! I have considered it, it is for sure a possibility in the future!
Awesome thank you so much
Homer Quiroz jr no problem!
Good video
Rebel Soul thank you, I appreciate the comment!
I'll give it a try to just cuz of the beer
Frank Mendoza beer always helps with everything!
Thank you so much this will help a lot I’m probably gonna try to taxidermy a bluegill as my first this will totally help, just one question though would I be able to use stuffing as a substitute for foam because I don’t have a good enough knife to cut foam but anyway, thanks.
No problem! I know some guys use sawdust and pack the fish with it. I have never done this method so I am unsure on the exact process to it.
Thank you for the info I want to try this....do u still make these anymore...great video keep them coming.
Cinn Amon sure do, they get better every fish I do, hoping to get more videos up. If you have any more questions let me know.
Awesome video thanks for posting it! Does the white paper for the fins goes in front or the back of the fins? I guess it is a special kind of paper. Also what kind of airbrush are you using? thank you
Thanks for the comment. It only goes on the back of the fins, it’s basic plain white tissue paper that you can pretty much buy anywhere Walmart or a party store. I use “master airbrushes” they’re pretty cheap but I’ve found that they work just fine for me. Let me know if you have other questions.
Que pintura gastos??
Thanks for the vid man, do you buy your paint from mckenzies based on what it tells you to use in the book? Also how are you suspending your fish to paint them
No problem thanks for the comment! Yes in the book it shows what color each fish needs and I buy accordingly. Many fish have similar color usage so once you do a few you should have the colors that can do most fish!
Hi bro can you pls do one on a carp pls
Tnx
Love from south africa
Just causally takes a sip of beer 😂😂
RXP Outdoors haha gotta take a quick refreshment break every now and then
Yep I'm with ya lol 👍
my pet goldfish is still in the freezer, honestly thinking about stuffing him. Hes about 6 inches long. He had something wrong with him and didnt grow well. He died alongside 4 other fish when my cycle crashed in the tank. He was my baby
Alexis Wilson well sorry to hear that! My wife’s family had a gold fish that died and I told them I would stuff it and they didn’t want that at all! But I think it could be done, might be a little weird though if you were really attached to him!
Awesome video man I never realized how possible this actually is. Do you know how a person would “pose” the fish a bit? And how do you get it to stay on your background log?
Thank you, yes it’s very possible to do! You can carve your fish with the desired curve or motion you want. I have done it but it’s always easiest to do a basic one but can easily be done.
@@beginnerstaxidermyguide8459 thanks for the response, once I can start and get going it’ll be something I definitely try!
Alright everything else doesn't look too hard but time consuming. Except the painting and spray painting might be a little tricky especially with no experience. I always wanted to try one but don't have the tools.
Spray painting was the toughest to get the hang of, but when you do a few fish it becomes easier. I’ve found out less is more when painting, not overdoing too much paint is the biggest thing I think! I plan on doing some give away in the future and may give away some airbrushes etc. stay tuned, otherwise all the materials to get started probly cost me 200-300 dollars and once you have those your set, just need to buy paint as you run out.
What's the model podge for? Do you have to take scales off the fish ?
Modge podge is for the back of that fins to help the tissue paper stay and give the fins some durability. The scales do not have to come off!
I do not have a airbrush so what can I paint it with?
That might be a bit difficult to do. If you are a talented artist it may be possible to hand paint them but I have found an airbrush to be much more forgiving when painting.
Amazing job! I’m not a fan of that orange paint, a bit unrealistic. I would prefer to match the fish with a dark yellow.
Appreciate the comment, yes agreed the paint job is always the hardest part to get right.
Have you ever yought about making foam castings its a little more expensive but you can make tons of copies
That’s a good thought, I haven’t looked into it too much but I may need to rethink it. I ultimately would like to do that as well.
Why did you paint the fish? Is It optional or is it to make the fish look cooler?
The fish typically lose their natural color so painting restores that!
Where do you get the eyes?
Hi, I order them online. If you google taxidermy supply stores you can easily find them, just measure your eye and order the same size!
Did you take the gills out
I don't take the gills out, what you can do is place thin pieces of cardboard between the gills so they dry out individually. Once dried you just paint them with gill red paint.
I know this is an old video but I'm just wondering is that a fresh fish or is it soaked in preserving solution first?
Hi, I caught that fish a few days prior to doing the video and mount work. I preserve my fish if I can’t get to them right away by wrapping them in a wet towel and putting them in the freezer. If done right you can keep a fish for months that way and do them when you have time.
@@beginnerstaxidermyguide8459 thank you for the reply :)
cole collett no problem
whats the name of the book for the painting parts....
Cinn Amon hi I use a book called “The Breakthrough Fish Painting Encyclopedia” bought on McKenzie taxidermy supply website. Thanks for the question.
Where do you get fish eyes?
I get them at McKenzie taxidermy supply
Where do you get the foam at ?
Hi thanks for the comment. I get all my supplies and Matuska taxidermy supply. You can order it there. Use code BGTMT at checkout.
what is the name of that scraping tool?
Hi, there are many different kinds of fleshing tools for fish. You can get cheek scrapers or larger general ones at Matuska taxidermy supply.
Thx, you just got me into the hobby :)
Just the information I needed. Thanks much
do you have to remove the skull
bubba jay nope, just make sure you poke your knife into the brain get that out and get the cheek meat out as well.
what book is that?
www.amazon.com/Breakthrough-Fish-Painting-Encyclopedia-Hall/dp/0925245011
Is it supposed to smell I had it in for three days and it smells is that fine
Lillian Quiroz well there seems to be always a little bit of meat that I miss that ends up smelling a bit, typically I have to get real close to the fish to smell it, once I give it a few days and let it dry it usually gets better.
Would you mind telling me the colors you used?
FishingSC hi unfortunately that’s one thing I can’t be telling, however the book I used is called “ The breakthrough fish painting encyclopedia” bought off McKenzie taxidermy supply. It has color schedules for tons of fish.
Alright, thanks!
Use a staple gun instead of sewing...way easier..good job.
Thanks for the comment. That is a good idea that I will have to try!
That's a sun fish
heroclan 2 nope it’s a bluegill, just a brighter belly
Are you putting back in the real eye ? Wouldn’t it stink and rot
I make the eye out of air dry clay and i paint it
