This was family comedy gold in my Jamaican family back in the 70s fantastic memories the laughter amongst us all still makes me smile. I introduced s Nigerian workmate to it a few years ago. He and his wife binge watched it all with tears running down their faces Then watched it all again.
This episode is too god damn funny. I was laughing from the beggining until the end. The chemistry between the characters are absolutely hilarious. Keep them coming Jay Peezy. 🇬🇧👊💯
GREAT REACTION GREAT SHOW, IT GOT A FEW POINTS OVER TO BIGOTS AND RACIST, ITS THE BEST WAY TO GET THRU TO RACIST HOW SILLY RACISM IS , ITS TAUGHT WE ARE NOT BORN RACIST, CHEERS
As we look back half a century , we laugh because some of its still genuinely funny , we laugh cos some of it's stupid , we laugh cos bits of it are dated and ridiculous .........but most importantly , we still laugh
You nailed it, "They were racist to demonstrate the stupidity of racism" I grew up with this series and that was the message I received. America needs to adopt the same attitude, instead of handing racist their weapons you need to ridicule them and disarm them. Reuse all racist words as generally used complements, whenever some idiot tries to use them as a weapon just say "Thank you" either take it as them using the word as the compliment or as a minimum for "recognizing that you are not like them". Take the weapon out of the words.
Loved watching your reaction to Eddie 👍😊😁. So strange to hear what he says now, but back then it really wasn't. Wishing you All a good weekend 😊🙏🇬🇧🏴
Omg can't wait watching now week it's so funny,I was watching it with my older rasta friend last night, and he was going " Don't watch that man... racialist program"..by the end( I showed him you watching it) and we were hysterical laughing..
Always fun watching these and your reaction. Have you seen fawlty towers, the Germans. Banned scenes on bbc and I can’t find full series on UA-cam. All fawlty towers were brilliant but only 12 episodes made
I met eddy booth's screen wife Joan when i was about 10 or 11 years old she came to our inner-city school, I was introduced to her, she looked the same as she does on TV.
Oh, and the blackface one is "Refused a Drink". Basically Eddie bets that black people can served in any bar... and set out to prove it - classic episode Season 1, episode 6 ua-cam.com/video/C84pvy_jZ8w/v-deo.html
Aye. This was a very funny episode. The banter /flack ect. on both sides. Six of one. And half a dozen of other. Throw some shit out. And expect to get some back. It's how it was working in engineering factories with a 600 work force . All characters a most with nick names.
Another one to watch from the same era is "Get Some In" (all episodes are on youtube). It's based on new recruits doing 1950's British national service.
"Refused a drink" is the episode Eddie "blacks up". I laughed hard at Eddie's accent. You can tell the two actually got on well together.ua-cam.com/video/C84pvy_jZ8w/v-deo.html
Watched one of your vids and thought its alright possible wont watch anymore...But i have and lots of them...Your attitude towards this stuff is very funny. Born in 64 i lived through all these tv shows and loved them... Maybe naive at the time but as a man whos completely non racist i think it taught me right from wrong...Some just don't get it tho but you do...Keep them coming :)
It's lovely to see you enjoying this in the way we did when it first aired, untainted by the modern political correctness and 'woke' ethos of seeing offense in everything. It's true, that laughter is good for both body and soul and we laughed a lot more back when this programme was made.
People keep making the obvious observation that shows like this, 'Rising Damp', 'Til Death Us Do Part', etc. are mocking racism. True enough & only an idiot would think otherwise, however this does not negate the use of racial slurs ( you might argue it's impossible not to use them in a show featuring a bigot, I disagree ) & the argument that the Eddie Booth's, Rigsby's & Garnett's are actually the 'heroes' of the shows. It's a cop out to reduce it to 'we're laughing AT them not WITH them' when we ALL share similar prejudices regarding different types of people. Also we are watching this show from a White perspective where consensus racism was & still is a *given* The fact remains that racism & bigotry of all kinds have not gone away nor are they likely to. Even though Eddie Booth's views are demonstrated to be irrational & destructive in every episode his prejudices persist. Whilst I like this show for what it is, you can't laugh prejudice away, it does not cease to be a very real problem because we laugh at racist attitudes. End of 'lecture'.
Oh do get over yourself! You are right that racism and bigotry will never go away, whether it's north England against the south, white against black, black against white, Protestant versus Catholic, Muslim versus Jew, the list is endless but the focus remains only on black/white so the best thing to do is make fun of it, turn it into comedy gold - like this and, on the reverse, 'Goodness Gracious Me' did in the 1980's which, if you aren't British, was a British-Indian team that sent up their own culture as well as the English in a famously brilliant sketch where a group of Indian friends decide to 'go for an English' satirising drunk English people who end the night 'going for an Indian'.
Problem is, I grew up with this racism program, BUT is it racism,.?? I'm not a colourful minority. However I see many people relating white as"snow flakes, and "wanting to be black", when all minority people state EVERYONE as n*"**rs, that ( in my opinion defeats the actual situation. AM I RIGHT..???
Love your attitude towards this show , you get it unlike most modern day snowflakes

I was 11 when this show aired and in school we all was laughing, i went to a very mixed race school and loved every minute of it
That's because none of you had been told you should find it offensive.
I love this too, i'm glad you clearly enjoyed it.
Your reaction made me laugh more than the actual show. Especially when Barbie was hiding behind the door.

Another brilliant comedy you could react to is called "Desmond's" and "Abbott and Costello in Who's On First"
I reacted to an episode a little while ago
Bill Pertwee who played the policeman later played the Air raid warden in Dad's Army.
Has got to be the funniest thing on Telly. He has got to have some balls to do that. LOL.

The TV repairman played the Gambian 'mature' student Matthew in the TV sitcom Desmond's
Rewatched, love it.

@Olly O totally agree ❤️
Yes Barbie behind the door was funny - they’re everywhere 😀
I can not thank you enough for watching this and Rising Damp, for educational purposes of course. History is doing 98% wrong and 2% right.
Oh my giddy aunt 🤣when the repair man arrived
It was predictable that he would be black - but that didn't make it any less funny.
Keep em coming Jay,I love your reactions they crease me up

🤣 Bakery crusty bread is a big thing here in the UK! It is crusty outside but soft and light inside. Lovely dipped in soup! 😋 😅 🍞

The bread that she's sawing is crusty bread. You can still buy it here in the UK from the bakers. It's crusty on top but soft inside. Lovely.
That is fresh bread, it's really nice.
that was too funny
excellent
This wouldn't be allowed on British TV now, people would go mad if this was ever shown again.
Isn't that a damn shame?
New subscriber
Lovely crusty bread lol
I think of this as Blazing Saddles the TV show Americans should have had.......
It's a crusty loaf of bread. Soft on the inside and....
Lol.
Before my time thank christ but it is interesting to see what tv was like ,tbh not alot changed sadly ..
Clyde hero
Even tho it is racially charged it's always the White man who is the one laughed and mocked at.
