  • The First maintenance video from the 200’000 mile peugeot 206
    In the weeks running up to 200’000 miles. I thought I’d start documenting the little maintenance jobs that have started cropping up.
    First up, squeaking flexi pipe and broken exhaust clamp causing a blowing exhaust link pipe.

    This video really helped me fix my exhaust, I must admit the issue is much simpler than expected!

      It’s an awful annoying sound until it’s fixed isn’t it. It ended up being a yearly operation, clean and lubricate the exhaust while I was down there doing an oil change.

    Cheers for this, I was also sounding like a banger racer until I watched this video

      No worries. Funny story. The car in this video has ended up as a banger 😂😂

    Plus Gas. I remember using it over 50 years ago, but not in a convenient spray can!

      It’s great stuff isn’t it. Stinks to high heaven but works a treat.
      Also helps if you say it with a Sean Connery accent.

      @@NickThornhill yeah still have the squeeking noise, going to fix it sometime soon

      It’s well worth look at changing the lower engine steady at the same time as it also stops the movement that causes the squeak. I have also done a video on this as I changed it with the driveshaft. Bit more technical of a job though.

    how is it after this time? were squeaks hearable only in motion or idle too?

    • @NickThornhill
      @NickThornhill  Рік тому +2

      It didn’t make a sound. I had to remove it again a year or so later when doing another job so I gave it another quick clean and copper slip lube and it was silent still. I’ve actually sold it now.

    Do you have the sound i it was broken before you fix it

    • @NickThornhill
      @NickThornhill  2 роки тому

      Sadly I don’t. The blowing sound is fairly normal for an exhaust and the squeaking is in the video.

    Changed my middle-pipe and resonator last week. Would have been quicker and easier to raise the car but i managed without. Luckily no seized bolts.

      They seem to be good on the seized bolts for some reason. Nice one. How did it sound afterwards?

      @@NickThornhill The exhaust connectors were relatively new so I figured I wouldn't splurge 50€ for 2 ramps yet. Doing much of the work with one arm was quite a workout and I still feel it. Sound... well, I kinda liked the sound when there was hole and perhaps felt a bit more power in the low end but it was a bit droning and annoyingly loud at highway speeds. The sound now is quiet, normal for a GTi.
      The muffler is intact but needs replacing soon. After taking it out, I realized it's not worth the effort to clean and paint. A sportier muffler is on the way. I should try to do make a comparison video when I change mufflers.

      The strap holding my fuel tank on looks about the same. 🙂

    What about the oil leak?

    • @NickThornhill
      @NickThornhill  2 роки тому +2

      It’s not dripping or getting worse, it was only an MOT advisory. Rule no.1 if it’s not broken, don’t fix it 😂😂 a lot of the damp oily area is from where the head gasket was leaking down that side of the engine, common fault, I have replaced the head gasket, sadly before I started making videos.
