Most of the time it's dry. It rains less than Scotland, Wales, Ireland and pretty much all the coastal areas of Europe that border the Atlantic Ocean. We are shielded by the UK. The weather can change multiple times a day. Just check the weather forcast and plan your clothing accordingly. You'll be fine. An advantage of having a temperate climate is that it never gets very cold or very hot. No snowstorms or tornados and because of the rain the country is green.
Well it usually is light drizzle rain in The Netherlands, it only pours down for short periods. We get mostly sunny hot days in August for a couple of weeks. That is why most people dont have airco's in Europe. We only get really hot days a couple of week so an airco would be of no use and too expensive for a couple of weeks. This video about rain was slightly exaggerated. Check out the video "How To Survive Dutch Fireworks"
I have a airco I live on the third floor of a 70 appartement building it get 40 celcius without a airco. Lots of people in this type of housing want a airco but can't afford it. I pay 400 euros of electricity extre per year just for the airco so.
In the Netherlands we have mastered the ocean, reclaimed land, battled rivers and ultimately decided that rain is gonna fall and you will get wet, all you can do it put on a coat and complain about it.
The summers are now much more warmer and a lot more sun! I'm really a very proud Dutchie! And if you want to go living here in the Netherlands; you will enjoy it to the fullest! And you dont want to go back to the US! Mark my words
It mostly doesn’t rains the whole day. That’s why the rain radar app is so helpful. It’s often possible to go outside “tussen de buien door” (between the showers), another Dutch expression. And there is a kind of rain I really like to be in. A soft constant rain with very tiny drops. It feels very good on the skin. It doesn’t snow that much anymore in the winter. And we got more often summers where it doesn’t rain for weeks.
100 minutes of rain per day sounds like a lot, but in reality it's a much bigger spread. When it rains it usually rains for hours on end (> 100min), and during fall and winter we sometimes have non-stop rain for multiple days, i.e. 1440 minutes per day for 2 or 3 days. Keeping that in mind, to get to a 100 minute per day average we have lots of dry and sunny days as well.
If you come to the netherlands invest in a decent raincoat. For me, I'm dutch, i just change in dry clothes so yup (unless i have to spend the whole day outside and its a bit cold i don't care). I do have very good non fashionale shoes that keep me feet dry. They aren't ugly but defently not fashionable ( i also have shoes for under a suit ofcours and flipflops for at the beach). As for dutch people. Do you know when they aren't happy? When they are not complaining.
Once you're, you're wet. No amount of frustration will solve that problem. And bij using the apps, you know exactly WHEN it going to rain and how fast the wind will blow. No wind=umbrella, wind=raincoat....or stay indoors
If you have 24h of rain it also means you will have 13,4 days without rain to hit the 100 minutes rain a day average. And many of the Dutch words for the weather are area dependent and mean the same. BTW I am Dutch.
Yes it rains in the Netherlands , the same as elswhere, but we like to complain about the weather . It is in our DNA. if it is rain, or days with sun and it is over 25 degreesC . We complain about it . But we have to deal with the weather, and do the things we want to do. And why we bike a lot, we have raincoats, umbrella's and a saying " je bent niet van suiker", "you are not made of sugar", so go outside and eal with it. "Na regen komt zonneschijn" , "after rain, comes sunshine" . look at the bright side of live. And go on.
That's total nonsense. It varies roughly between 120 and 155 days per year. So it is completely dry around 240 days per year anyway. And remember that it never rains all day, of course.
No no no, the 100mm rain per day is on average. It's not a constant factor for every single day. And yes, in the Netherlands it sometimes does snow (or freeze over) in the winter, but the last few decades it became less and less frequently, and on average lesser of it when it actually did snow. ps The Dutch don't wear flipflops or sandals in the spring or winter. We are not THAT stupid.(i think)
How to be Dutch? Easy: complain about everything. The weather, the politics (doesn't matter which), the economy, the weather, your work, your boss, your parents, your so's parents, the weather, traffic, monday, saturday, did I mention the weather?
Except the Dutch are masters of water management, being a river delta where three different European rivers empty out into the sea. The reason most historic Dutch cities have canals is actually for water management, so that when it rains heavily or when the rivers swell, the many canals, ditches and reservoirs around the country offer extra capacity to hold the water, until the flow of water out into the sea dies down again and the infrastructure can handle the water from the reservoirs, canals and ditches and dump it out into the sea as well.
For sure. I hate Dutch weather, its too warm. I sincerely think I have to move more north, like to Scandinavia, because ffs.. 38-40 degrees (in summer) in the Netherlands is just.. unbearable. I wish weather was shitty like it used to be. When I grew up we had actual snowstorms.. I haven't seen actual snow in like 2 year. wtf.
@ Yes- weather changes, but never to an extent like this (except for when major destruction events, or vulcano's happen). This is man-made climate change.
I was born- and live in the Netherlands. Of course it rains, but what he is telling is a pouring of lies. Because lets be clear if it rains 100 min/day 1. the Netherlands would drown. 2. Farming would be impossible (plants need air too, cows would go stuck in the mud) 3. The rain would flood the big cities and the stones on the street would come loose. Traffic would be jammed 24h/day. Btw our king is has studied waterworks + has a degree in it too. + Everybody knows our Dutch wisdom how to handle water/sea. And how to win land from the sea.
this is quite exagerated tbh, obviouslfy for comedic purposes, but no, it's not nearly that bad anymore in general. it used to be much like this years ago.

For rain actually that also depends on the place. We also had dry summers with no rain at all
Layering, rain jacket. There is no bad weather only bad clothing. Cheers🇳🇱

The umbrellas they advertise are special because they're designed to stand a lot of wind.
We are on the same latitude as Canada.. Because of the gulfstream we have a mild sea climate...
4:30 the trick with these umbressas is that they automatically point aganst the wind and thus work much better in stormy weather

it doesn't matter in the summer when it's hot then I don't mind getting wet it dries anyway umbrella I have 3

Same thing in Germany. It rains almost every day, even in summer...well, most summers.
He did say 100 min on average per day . But we got days that it rains the hole day so that is already 1400 min . So Its not raining the hole year

Don't get an umbrella, it's just garbage in no time due to the wind. Just get very good rain clothing. that will last you much longer.

The only statistic they gave was: 100 minutes on average per day. So if you have 2 weeks of 10 hours of rain per day, that covers a lot of dry weeks.

100 minutes not mm, we get relatively little rain actually in absolute mms of rain. Only 700-800mm a year, or about 2mm per day.
How to be Dutch?
Easy: complain about everything.
The weather, the politics (doesn't matter which), the economy, the weather, your work, your boss, your parents, your so's parents, the weather, traffic, monday, saturday, did I mention the weather?
Conclusion, the Netherlands will drown one way or another. Either it's the rising sea level or it's the rain pouring down. Probably both cooperating.

Well well this is a bit over dramatic LMAO 🤣🤣🤣

@ Indeed, the video clip sounds and looks like it rains 364 day's a year here.
The only place it rains 365 days a year is in scotland.
The people of this clipp make sarcastic clipps about the netherlands they are fun to watch.
Or you live in a wet and green country, or in a yellow, sandy, dry country

The trick is just to ignore the rain. Wear a hoody and throw it over a chair when you get home or whatever. Just completely diny it exists.
