So real. As a woman whose two biggest hobbies are American football 🏈 and reading 📖 , I can tell you without question that my interest in the former has always been well received by men (unless you count those who think so highly of football that they refuse to believe a woman could be genuinely interested in it) while my interest in the latter hobby has not been. Just today a man commented on my post, about reading, saying, “Women live in fantasy imaginary scenarios. You all need to grow up” 🙃 And this same man had a soccer player profile picture. Like babe, you watch grown men kick a ball around in your spare time. I don’t wanna hear it.
you two have such great podcast chemistry it’s really effortless to listen to I feel like I’m in the room with you just listening to good mates have great chats thank you so much
this was honestly such a good episode! fascinating + intelligent conversation, nuanced takes (which are kinda scarce on this internet hellscape, let’s be real), and just so nice to see 2 great friends chatting & vibing! love! (also, Jordan, big fan of ur top!!!) 💫
"the art can exist on it's on terms and your reaction to that art can also exist on it's own terms" TRULY VOICING THE MASSES RN!!!!!!! Was literally having a discussion about this with my literary criticism professor and how the students coming into their first semester right under me just do not comprehend this concept. The way media literacy is dying is very depressing to see
Love this whole discussion! I have to add that in addition to convo around someone hypothetically starting reading because a celebrity/influencer did, I say to those imaginary critics... so what? How else are we supposed to be introduced to new things and new hobbies except through the people in our lives (however indirectly)? I also fully agree with the statement that we're allowed to enjoy our hobbies even when not actively engaging in them. Reading is super fun but I also love book shopping, scrolling/interacting on bookstagram, watching booktube, and talking with friends about current reads! I think I'll be borrowing the sports analogy in the future ;)
45:14 actually birds are closest relatives to dinosaurs (also called non-avian dinosaurs). Birds are the only surviving group of dinosaurs. Crocodiles, snakes and turtles are more distant relatives.
55:37 absolute facts, this concept is so often forgotten in online book spaces and it’s so frustrating Loved this discussion in general! Loving season 2
This has been on my mind these last few weeks and it has really been bothering me. A lot of people can't be "objective" about books, and separate their feelings from the matter. If a book is not to their taste or if they don't understand the meaning or intent of it, they'll just say that it's a bad book. A lot of people lack nuance and it's really sad because it's a hindrance to productive conversations. Also people should learn to have different expectations for every genre out there. You can't expect a classic to be exciting and then complain that it's boring, or complain that a YA book is immature. That's one of the reasons I only trust very few people for book recommendations.
i loved hearing you both talk, i think i could have hours and hours of you chatting in the background (yes this is my way of telling you if you had a side podcast just the two of you... that's something i'd reallly like)
OMG, I never expected this crossover 🙀 Why is UA-cam recommending me this 10 days later?! I love you both so much ❤ Aaand you mentioned Mina?! Lord, I'm so happy to be sharing the same timeline with you all 😆✨
I love these chats. Excuse me, but I feel like I'm part of the conversation and I just have to pause the video and pretend that you guys are listening to my responses as well lol
When I was a kids I used to watch a lot of British shows, and here in Brasil back in the early 2000's everything had subtitles so I learned english the British way, but when I stated taking english classes in school I didn't understand why some words were different and why the accent didn't match 😂 it took me years to figure it out, but I'm glad because now I can understand both and some slangs too
100 percent agree with the point on introduction to reading. I wish I started earlier reading for fun but i just couldnt bring myself to try it properly in school beasue it was a chore...and you dont get a choice what to read
The head of my first year hall looooved sparking water and when I went back as an RA they’d just done a kitchen/dining hall refurbishment and the head of hall specifically had a sparking water tap added to the drinks area so she could use it 😂
i’m thinking a lot about the internet and the crazy amount of opinions on there a lot these days,, and it’s like sometimes we should all just shut up sometimes yk?
Omg! I also have gift giving as a love language! Specifically for giving, I also don’t receive it in the same way. I have something in common with Jack 😂
I think it is performance but what's wrong with that? Performance art is valid. We're always performing in some way socially. It can be performance and authentic imo.
If somebody is pretending to have genuine interest in books just so they can poster an aesthetic perfect lifestyle..I would say that’s performative and just generally annoying because it’s disingenuous. I feel the same way with the crystal people or the ones that are super into astrology. It doesn’t feel real a lot of the time to me. I just think the internet does a really good job at making people feel ugly and poor lol.
the actress of naomi from heartstopper?? jack manifolds girlfriend?? the author of HOW TO TRAIN YOUR MF DRAGON??? JACQUELINE WILSON!?!?!?? "im just gonna pick these names off the floor cause i do be dropping some names" 38:28 oh to live both of your lives
As an introvert, I can say that those who have an Internet online presence do exhibit performative elements, but as long as there is a genuine aspect, it's just part of the medium. Poseurs don't come across as genuine, even if they are true fans. I completely agree that the judgment faced by young female fans is unfair.
Jordan needs to make a video on the double standards on stan culture with males and football and women and their hobbies
@@GivebackthescarfYeah like games and basketball to mention a few
I think the whole thing about football (and american football) vs Taylor Swift Eras Tour
@@Givebackthescarf yes for sure but right now I have nothing else I can think about
