Great build! I'm thinking of something like this for the summer... and to tow a kid trailer.
Shane commented on my channel, mama I made it🤣 we haven't met yet legend but we will👍surprisingly good quality frame and some of the features are better than my 3T exploro frame which retails $4k
@@thedropcycling That's exactly why I'm looking at these closely... I don't want to tow a kid trailer with a $4k frame... but it does need Di2! :)
@@gplama I would say go for it, di2 internal routing as no issues at all, threaded bb and etc, if you need a hand building the bike give me a yell mate!
@@gplama so this is how it started....then things kind of escalated with the build eh 😅
That's the beauty of these frames: you saved so much money with the frame that you can splurge on the other stuff. My wife and I are both riding this frame with AXS Force/Eagle mullet setup and absolutely loving it. Another friend built this same frame with Di2 GRX and also loves it. Great frame.
Nick - I have said it before - you put me in a trance with your bike build vlogs. Love seeing a craftsman at work.
Haha thanks brother, glad you enjoy it.
You say it’s super cheap but then say nothing about the price. A large part of the cost is in the group set and that’s not cheap.
I think he meant cheap frame. That group set is expensive AF
Frame Looks just like the ICAN gravel X I built for my wife.
Very nice frame for the price - I was impressed by the thought that went into it, and it built up with zero issues.
How much doea this frame weigh? Fork weight?
Thanks for the video, I have the same bike (ICAN frame) with GRX 1x11 810 3T parts and Hunt 700 wheels and Prime Kanza 650 wheels and I absolutely love it after more that 6000km riding heavy gravel. I like the no name brand.
*Great **Latest.Bike** , good looking, good suspension and love the gearing. I've tested some bikes that were more then twice the price but not as good. Get lots of looks when riding.*
you are right Andy. it's an absolute beauty to ride
I don’t think we have the same notion of the word "cheap"
Preach
Hello fellow poor.
Amen to that. Thats not even near the word cheap
Got this frame for my backup gravel / endurance road bike. It’s excellent!
Whaooo dude - absolute genius - I wouldn’t even know where to buy those gloves
I have the same frame! works just fine for almost 2 years now!
What is this frame?
@@guilhermercs Carbonda CFR696
Awesome build! Loved the bottom bracket tool. Recently finished my own build of an open mold carbon road frame. Definitely not as tricked out as yours, but it does the job.
Great build! Could you please put up the parts list and the sources?
Do we have a list?
Danke. Es ist entsprechend dir bei dem Aufbau zuschauen zu können. Wünsch alles Gute.
She’s alive 😍
Appreciate the scale view at the very end, even if it weren't in lbs. I have this frame in a 56cm, but no sissy Di2, GRX, Hunt carbon wheels, all matte black. Stable and comfortable ride, currently with 40mm wide tires. About to install the non-flared version of Carbonda's bars for even more comfort and wt. savings. Didn't see that criss cross pattern for your stem faceplate torques... , also 2x chainrings, not single for gravel!
sounds like a great build Karl. good job
2x all the way for gravel.
@@overthetarget9401 oh yeah niceee
I built a 696 last year. Love it!
My art fix for the week. Love that green oh and the di2
Thanks brother👍👍
So calm, love your work, and bad ass gloves!!
Haha thanks mate, not so calm when I smashed that cupcake tho🤣🤣
Wiggle sell these under the Vitus brand, recently bought one and after I recover from my broken hip I’m looking forward to riding mine. Brilliant build video
Speedy recovery Dude, which Vitus is it?
@@jamesbicknell4706 many thanx 👍, Vitus Substance CRS2, exact same frame as this but with Vitus branding. Sizing is a bit bigger as mine is borderline too big.
Thanks scott
...and Tifosi Cavazzo SL. ...and On ONE Free ranger... and Bombtrack Hook. ...and who knows how many other brands sell exactly and nearly the same frame.
New subscriber...the cup cake break made the video enjoyable. Thanks for sharing the build with us...cheers.
Thx Joe. Welcome
The frames Vitus substance crs and bombtrack hook ext-c 2021 look exactly like this frame.
That's because they are the same along with some other models.
Great build.
One piece of feedback. Metal files cut when being pushed. During the fork steerer tube cutoff, there was much pulling which just dulls the file teeth
Thx mate
11:32 Sorry to say... that BB spin test didn't impress me at all. I'd say losing at least 5W there. :(
The cupcakes did impress me. ;)
Yeah the cupcake tho🤤
ua-cam.com/video/vuzl7amhitk/v-deo.html
Might be too much preload on the bearings. Here the crappy plastic shimano tool is actually a better choice than the nice metal tool used in the video - the metal tool gives additional leverage which makes it too easy to overtighten...
Also, as long as the movement is not "jumpy" or "clicky" this will probably not be a big problem when riding, the lifespan of the BB can be shorter though...
Waiting for Hambini to enter the chat and swear at everyone
Same here, great built overall... maybe is just me being too picky about certain things thay I would do diferent.
do you have links to all the parts you used?
Don’t understand why people put sealant in like that. Just put it in a 60cc syringe and squirt in thru the valve stem. Must cleaner and less chance of a sloppy mess when prying a tight tire back on.
Nice video, really enjoyable.
BUT you need to wear a mask while cutting the steerer tube, the dust occuring there is known to cause cancer. The best way to do it is outside + wearing a mask.
Thank you very much 🙏
Great build Nick!!
Thanks Luke👍🙏
Antiseize on the derailleur bolt is a must, well done.
But your bar tape technique is missing 1 out of 4:
- the bottom part is correct, you started from the inside out, so you will "tighten" it when you ride on the drops and you roll your hands outwards
- the overlapping on the bottom part is also correct when you start from the bottom, top over, so you don't roll the overlap up when you lower your hands or you push downwards on the drops
- the top part is overlapping correctly as well, inside over, so you don't roll the overlap up when you go from the flat to the hoods or push outwards
- but the top part should be rolled from the front to the back so when you roll your hands down while riding on the top/flat you "tighten" it.
Another downside of double crossing on the lever (figure 8?) is wasting a lot of tape, you end up with a half naked handlebar, it looks cool but it's not the most comfortable... I understand it for these kind of handlebars, though.
Apart from that, very nice video, keep them coming!
thanks for the tips mate. appreciated
Great build, I'm always worried about using the gripping paste on stems and seat posts..heard so many horror stories of them fusing together...
Buenos dias Maestro : Me ha gustado mucho el concepto de la performance.
Cual es tu opinion de los cuadros abiertos ?
Merece la pena montarse la bici desde 0 ?
Gracias y nos vemos en el proximo video 👌🏼
Got a price on the bike. $480 USD for the frameset, $12 USD for headset, $26 USD for axles and $230 USD for shipping. Killer deal for the frameset but the shipping sucks. Equals around $1000AUD. They do custom paint too which is aroudnd $105 USD.
I'm baffled on how this build cost as low as $3500 AUD when the frame and Di2 kit cost about $3000 AUD.
Sometimes people don't count shipping in the cost of things, which is quite wrong. Half of the work involved in ordering parts is figuring out shipping, given that it's all made in China.
Possibly a daft question, I’ve read countless things about this 696 and its all positive, backed up by how many brands use it. Now, is it just the mould that’s the same literally ie the shape? And the carbon (quality, how it’s laid up etc) changes, or is even that all the same?
I’m very close to pulling the trigger on a 696 direct from factory is it genuinely no different a frame from buying what you know is a rebranded 696?
PS AMAZING VIDEO!
It’s exactly the same frame mate, regardless of whether you buy it directly from the factory or from a brand selling the frame under their name.
Hey Marc. Did you pull the trigger? How are you liking it if you did?
Very beautiful yob…….but in my country “cheap ” is 600/800 € or $ !!😁👍👍
Curious to know, were there any challenges with the build. Did all the parts fit in to place, with no struggle. Example, I heard of the seat post not being able to fit in to the frame. Due to the size being smaller than what was specified on the geometry.
What was the quality and the ride like on the following.
And since use, has there been any problems ?
Hey Y g, I am very impressed with the build quality, everything fits in place. It's not my bike but according to my mate who is the owner It's not bad to ride.
great video. what are your feelings about the reliability of the fork. many report fork snapping at the steerer tube and ive seen some people reinforce the steerer with an aluminium tube... any worries there? im hesitant to buy a chinese carbon frame because of this, but then again brands like vitus and on-one use this frame with no extra reinforcement or quality control so im not sure what to belive. would be interested to hear your thoughts on it. have a nice day.. Tommy
hey tommy, thanks for visiting the channel, I am with you, this is why you need to do a little bit research when it comes to buying a Chinese carbon product, this bike is belong to my good mate Dan, he has done his homework before purchasing, thru out the build process, this frame impressed me with a pretty good quality, carbon layout, internal cable routing and etc. I can't tell you how good the fork is but from looking at it, it is just like any other gravel bikes I have built, 3T exploro, Giant and etc. I would say go for it if you want one. hope it helps! you have a good day too!
2x systems were ridden by 90% of the top competitors at this years premier gravel race the Belgian Waffle Ride. IMHO 1x doesn't make any sense on a gravel bike.........unless you plan on never hitting any hills.
Or you're not trying to race
Gary Ives Agreed.
I have absolutely no use for a gravel bike but this makes me want to build one
Do it!!
@@thedropcycling How did this build cost so little? Frame and groupset cost like 85% of the build from what I can find.
Love the video! Can I get a breakdown of all the parts used? I’m debating ordering the same frame and attempting a build up!
Thanks mate. Frame model is in the description, bars and seatpost are also from the website. Thomson stem, shimano grx di2 1x groupset 170mm 40t front 42t rear. Mavic wheels
At last... Someone with right hand front brake setup... 👍👍👍👍
what color did you use? Or did you order it that way? If so, mind sharing the pantone or name? I LOVE that matte green, looks like it has some metallic to it.

sorry somehow I missed your message
Not enough tape on handlebars top part!!
Great build!
I look for the same frame Carbonda CFR696. What the handlebars? Reach and drop?
"Cheap" would mean less than$3000 USD as I can get a new 3T with Sram Rival groupset new for about that price. HOW MUCH DID YOU SPEND????
i can build a Carbonda 696 with a lighter wheelset, (Lightcarbon) wider gear range (GRX 1 x 40t chainring , 10-51t cassette) making it slightly faster and lowered geared, making it a more competitive race bike than the 3T (which I have demoed , BTW).... all for about 2,750 USD. I know coz I'm working on it right now.
I like the relaxing tempo of this video
What Chinese frame is this and what is the size please?
Went to the website. There's no prices for anything and there's not even a link to be able to buy any of this?
Very nice. Where do you get the cable foam damper thingy so the cables don't rattle?
Ohhh que buen emsamblaje, pero creo que esa pata de cambios se extiende demasiado en la ultima corona ten cuidado con eso.
This open mould is the same as my Ridley Kanzo Adventure frameset!
Hi, did you use BB without any spacer?
Same frame as the Planet X Free Ranger by the look of it.
The best!
I love it. I wish I had one
Great stuff! Waiting for my CFR696 frameset to arrive. Gonna build it up with GRX di2 too so this was really helpful. Can I ask what is the frame size and how long Di2 wires you used for the derailleur and the battery?
Size small 53cm toptube. I'm unsure wire length my mate brought all the components over. I measured it up it was long enough before build it
Hello. Good video.
Why don´t you use the frame guides instead of magnets?
I´m learnig.
Hello, some of the guide cable that great to use
Did the upper headset bearing not sit flush ? And that’s why you switched it to the fsa ?
What bar is that?
why don't you cut the cable tie excess end? might be easier to insert via the BB
Hi I'm interested in the frame can you tell me something more about It where can I buy One? Thanks

@@duke8774 I ordered the frame with BSA threaded BB and used a Shimano Ultegra 6800 Bottom Bracket SM-BBR60 to use it together with GRX600 1x crankset (GRX FC-RX600). Works flawless but don't put so much preload as in this video, the cranks should spin a bit more freely.

Complete bike is about $3k keep in mind most money is going towards the groupset.
great ,but what is the cost breakdown
i like you definition of cheap ,, yee with grx di2 and carbon fram ,, you get a dislike for that ,
I agree with the Di2, but the frame is a Carbonda CFR 696 which you can get for around $800, which is quite cheap as far as good carbon frame go.
@@thomasjousse2427 wen you can get 200$ carbon frame unbranded from ebay 800 look like a lot for a "cheap bike" and for 800 you can get also a prety good entire bike ,
@@darkphotographer Apparently this one cost $450, which is quite all right, especially for a "known" manufacturer. I agree that you could get something nice second hand for $800 though.
Question for all- I’ve got a bombtrack hook ext c. From my observation this is essentially the same exact frame. I’m curious how this works for companies, do they source out the frame pre built and then have them painted/customized to the specific company? I’m a bit new to the gravel/carbon/cycling world. I’ve seen other branded frames that have a nearly identical geometry as well. Thanks
Эти рамы все похожи, так как производятся на одной и той же фабрике fly bike Asia, производители там и заказывают их. Популярная carbonda там же изготавливается
Looks mint! How does she ride tho?
its awesome bike to ride
Nice!
Miss you there brother🙏
Did the frame come any covers for the cable ports? In the shot of you heat shrinking the cables, it looks like a big hole in the frame.
re watch at 4:45 Terence, it came with different covers for mechanical and electric groupset set up
Two questions: 1) Does this frame work with readily-available components? 2) Where can I get one?
Alibaba platform
Yes, I built it up with mechanical 1x GRX 600 groupset and BSA threaded bottom bracket. I bought it by emailing the guys at carbonda. The process was really good in my experience, it felt like buying a super personalized luxury item (custom paint, all questions answered, everything). Would recommend.
@@elorz007 Thanks. I looked on Alibaba and could only find the framesets in orders of 10
Super nice video! Will be building up my own with 1xGRX mechanical as soon as the frame arrives (and will look at this video again then to keep help me with the build!). Maybe could you help with an advice? How would you recommend to run the rear mech shifter cable? Full housing or with stops and 'bare' in the frame (is there a guidehose or something that comes with the frame?) Thanks!
I just built the same frame with 1x GRX600 mechanical and I though about going full housing but in the end I didn't because it was much simpler to just run the shifter cable through the included guides (the yellow tubes). If you want to go full housing I think you need to drill or file the whole in the small piece that screws in the headtube with the 3 holes.
But in my experience, running the shifter cable "bare" took literally 20 seconds and shifting has been flawless.
@@elorz007 cool! Thanks. Wonder how the shifter cable runs internally in that case(I'm used to one of those cable guides at the BB but can't see one in this video).
Now waiting for my frame.. Was sent via truck instead of air accidently 🥴
@@sanderscholtens391 you can see at 1:42 how he pulls those yellow cable guides out, those groves are were the inner cable goes. Instead of pulling the yellow guides like he does, you thread the inner cable through them from the headtube and once the cable has made it all the way and exited through the seatstay hole you can then pull the yellow thing out.
@@elorz007 Yay! Spotted👍👌🍾
