He betrayed his friends and got what he deserved. He was quick to call them vain and bored but yet he was so desperate to be a part of their group. He is the worst kind of friend, and we have all met snakes just like him - the type you leave far behind in the dust.

That’s a reductive perspective. These women believed they were above everyone. Including Capote. He was a jester to them. The collected art but they didn’t appreciate it. Capote was essentially white trash. Sadly he was sucked into the luxury and ease of their empty lives They were hypocrites who snubbed others even though their own lives were just as tawdry and amoral. In some pathological compulsion Truman did what he should’ve done as a writer long before. He exposed their vile pretenses and showed the world they were not superior or perfect at all. Indeed, the published chapters were restrained. He focused on the men who are easily vilified as cheaters and greedy swine who stop at nothing to achieve their goals. Capote was pretty chivalrous because he didn’t betray their infidelities, cruelty or despicable secrets. He believed he portrayed them in a sympathetic and awed light.
The problem for Capote was his desire to be a swam He so. Admired their style and beauty. But he was a man gag or not so he couldn’t grasp the contrarian pov women have much less understand the vast difference between the rich and the poor. Yes he became wealthy after in Cold Blood but. It’s not the same level of wealth much less the attitude wealth entitles these people to. They raised with out empathy or objectivity. He resented them and himself for being so insensitive and selfish. He lost his way with them. He had lost his edge abd the ability to be objective. It was a trap he decided to blast his way out off by doing what he should’ve long before. Sadly it was too little too late. Had he been as vicious as you suggest he would’ve torn the high tone wenches up and ended the ruling class once and for all. His mother wanted so badly to be a swan. They didn’t let her in. In this pursuit she abandoned him. She never was accepted and ended her own life. He went into there world with that in his soul. He was seduced as much as he seduced. His flaw was seeing them as humans abd feeling their pain. They couldn’t empathize with him or anyone else. Had he exposed them they would’ve have had a hope of actually being more than black holes These women were classist, Racist, ethnocentric, biased, self serving homophobic sexist elitist , empty, unethical and shallow. Style and beauty don’t compensate for that. While mesmerized by the aesthetic , Truman Capote could never write as beautifully as he did if he was like his swans.

I remember a funny story where an old lady came up to the pastor and said, “Reverend , that was the most superfluous sermon I have ever heard.” He replied, “Thank you. The swans treated her badly abd marrying your sugar daddy’s possibly gay son is creepy. That would offend Truman. There’s a good chance she did shoot him. Of course without a conviction it’s just gosssip and that’s especially cruel to her children.

I was looking at other videos of Capote and his swans, and someone was very upset about the swans being so mean to Truman. I could not believe what I was reading. He used their friendship and told their secrets for profit. I don't know what else he expected to happen. Capote could say "literature is all gossip" all he wanted, but his friends did not expect him to betray them.

I think you're confusing The Swans with The Heiresses, whom I've chosen to call The Ostriches, because their heads were buried in the ground. Babe Paley was a Swan. Gloria Vanderbilt was an Ostrich. She was the one with the money who needed to beware of the gigolos. That was a very different thing from the Swans who were socialites trained to marry wealthy men just for their money and the social status involved. The most successful of those was Jackie O.

There's a video here on YT of an old episode of Mysteries and Scandals which used air on the E! network in the 90s and 00s. Joanne Carson was interviewed on it and she talked about the final years of Capote's life, including his last day. Interestingly, the she detailed about what happened to the lost chapters of "Answered Prayers" and she said Truman made an elaborate plan to hide it in a safety deposit box and Carson seemed to believe it and said it would be released one day. As a couple of his short stories and a complete novel have been found since his death, I'm convinced that Truman completed the book, or at least most of it. Has anyone heard any other rumours about it?
In Gerald Clarke’s authorized bio, Capote, he discuses it. Also Jack Dunphy, said Truman would pretend to work but was reading magazines, drinking and pills instead 😂😢😂; In Cols Blood probably drained him, seeing these women with all the $ and none the happiness juxtaposed with the Clutter’s & Perry & Dick, surely affected his perception of his swans & circles.

Writers are usually good at spotting irony. Truman worked over time trying to be everything he insulted them for being. Basic projection. He was every descriptive word he used for them.

Capote’s book would’ve flopped when it came out hypothetically as none of his so called Swans’s lives were interesting anymore to the public since waited too long to finish the book. I personally don’t think the book would’ve been any good either based on the excerpts he did publish. It shows NO STORY. Reads like an issue of The National Enquire. I don’t even believe those were actual excerpts from his phantom book. He made those excerpts in a rush just to claim he was working on it, but never actually had any book being worked on. That’s what it feels like. He got what he deserved in the end too for being such a nasty, awful person to his former friends. The Swans were no angels either.
My question is slightly related by 6 degrees of separation, i recently noticed that model actress Rene Russo facial features strongly resemble Jackie O more then her sister Lee (one of Capote's Swan). What do you ladies think?
