- In this video, we take a look at one of the main reasons so many sharks are close to shore in Southern California. We also examine a close encounter from a scientific perspective. The shark's actions may not be as alarming as I thought. In fact, it could be unique footage.

The last comment of yours, "Just being a shark" is perfect! Lesson learned!👍🦈
If you have been in the ocean for any length of time, you have been right next to sharks! 5:20
@@erikdeeNOSPELLSNOvery true 😊
It's their home not ours.
Shark being a shark is always the case. Even in feeding events involving humans. The shark is consuming a meal. The only truth that needs to sink in is that sharks KNOW the difference between humans & seals/sea lions. To think so little of their intelligence & downplay hundreds of millions of years of sensory development is foolish & disrespectful to these Apex predators.
Although sharks are not the bloodthirsty killing machines we see in movies, they are also not harmless. I think the key is to accept the risk we take when we swim in the ocean and not to take unnecessary risks.
A lot of people who get confused about how the people don't notice, when you are in clear water like this at water level in the water all you see is the sun glare reflecting and shining off the water, you don't see through and the slightest tip of a fin even if you happen to be looking in the direction of it directly on you will find hard to see with it blending in with the swaying water. It can be almost impossible to see ironically in the clearest water.
Yea. While drone/top view can see the shark clearly, people who on low level (short people and kids) can't even see other people swimming
Ignorance is bliss.
Until you get bit.
The behaviour that can be seen with drones now is really amazing and you Sir are the best in the world at it. Thanks!
Your footage is not only spectacular, you’re also a very skilled narrator. I’m highly appreciative of your offerings.
Wow, thank you!
I am still amazed that you don’t have millions of subscribers already. Maybe people are too terrified by the word Shark, but if they just watched they would realize how incredible the content and these animals are.
Most people don’t really want to watch idiotic fools being ripped apart by dangerous animals.
I don't think it's the fear as fear usually gets clicks
it's probably just that people with too much brainrot can really sit through a quiet low-action video
Or maybe there aren't a million people who give a sh1t about watching drone footage of a shark. Be thankful hundreds of thousands do.
Tedious narrative with irrelevant music?
This man’s work should be in animal behavior studies. This is groundbreaking research done by one fantastic artist.
As always beautifully shot and informative, Carlos.
I follow and sub a few high-quality YTers I like: you are the only one I comment on every single time to help boost your content, not just leave a like.
You can be 10 feet from the water and still be close to a shark. Lately here in FL, the surf has cut a very deep trench right off the beach. Step off the sand bank and you are then in 7 feet of water. Imagine how big a shark could be cruising along the edge of the beach?
The video was so peaceful. I love sharks especially great white sharks. It’s heartwarming to see someone like you providing this. Thank you!
Understanding sharks near shore behaviors is really not making me any less fearful. I guess there was a small chance the great white could have bloodied the young swimmer. Usually they don't because they are oblivious? So comforting! But it could have attacked I guess? Who knows? I have no idea why this would make you love sharks more.
@@mikerem9997 Well, there are some sick people around, that love someone who is feared.
@@sextempiric7137 Have no idea what you mean.
Why especially the great whites? Tigers are great too! All of them! 😁
This is the problem with these videos imo. They show them in these seemingly harmless "heartwarming" interactions and then a story breaks about someone being brutally eaten by these same creatures. Fact is they are unpredictable and we don't know what or why they attack but we do know sometimes they do.
The sharks’ behavior is fascinating and getting the topside view is a great bonus (for the beauty of it) and incredibly helpful. Your videos are awe inspiring. Keep it up!
Thanks for educating us! I’ve watched so many of your videos, but had not recognized that hunting pattern.
Always appreciate your dedication, hard work and ultimately the information that you provide.
You have some of the most phenomenal content I have ever seen on video medium. Thank you for providing education en masse. You are doing humanity a remarkable service, for what it is worth.
brown nose award!
Being a commercial fisherman in Tasmania Australia for 27 years broadened my mind. I gave surfing up but still occasionally dive for abalone and have seen many large White Pointers during the period. One in particular that the Old Boys called "Old Faithful " because it turned up every year in our location. This Shark was in excess of 30 feet. We've seen ones around 25- 30 feet out the shelf while commercial fishing.
All in All... it is Their Environment.
Was that the beast that got Rodney Fox, of the south Australian. Coast..... Back in the 70's
@@tjf5148 and/or underwear... Because I think I'd need to
I doubt it. I've got a book with some of the pics of Rodney fox before and after he was sewn back together. That was a large shark but small in comparison to some that roam the seas.
@@stuartgilbert3969 oh my oh my , tales from beyond the deep.... Now that's scary
I wouldn't mind snorkeling the Vic ocean beaches but I don't trust the sharks. Are they really that chill?
You do a fantastic job with both the visual and audio content of your videos - much appreciated!
This channel should have around 6-7 million subs.
Thank you for educating us (the public) about these beautiful and magnificent creatures!
100%…knowledge and education is key for anything. I’m a native Californian. I went to Huntington Beach state beach each and every summer. I remember I was in the shallow coast ankle deep and felt somethung on the back of my ankle…did not break skin. I thought nothing of it at the time and kept returning summer after summer. I love the beach. Now that I’ve seen this be aware…smart of your surroundings. Hikers have wild animal encounters just be aware and alert.
could of been a number of things...lots of fish, rays, and harmless sharks feed near the shoreline in about ankle to knee deep.
I don’t know what it was…I’m saying be aware and be safe and of course have fun.
I have family in HB (I'm in AZ) and I spent many summers at Bolsa Chica State Beach and my cousin and I would swim well beyond the surf line and just tread water. That was before this channel and even drones but now I wonder how close we were to white sharks, juvenile or other. 😳 🦈
I grew up n southern California I went to beaches a lot got stung by jellyfish had some fish nibble my thighs seen sea lions but the water is dirty can't see it murky water my brother got stung by sting ray at hunnington bch in shallow water never heard of any swimmer being attack in shallow water in deeper water yeah
@@kurthuson4507 agree…my dad would get me past the large waves and we would tread water too. Before I knew to duck under a large wave I would be tumbling to shore….so scared….but went back. When I saw these posts I thought OMG too…yikes!!
So educative! incredible footage. Love your channel. ❤
Your videos are so well put together, eye opening, and wholesome! Thank you for your impactful work
I've been sharing these videos with my friends son who loves sharks. keep them coming you do awesome work!
More beautiful shark footage Carlos. 🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈
That shark clearly had no interest in those people.
No interest - on this particular day. What is one swimmer was bleeding?
Yeah , maybe the same shark just ate another human , ray , seal , etc only a little while ago . Maybe he’s not hungry at the moment. Maybe he’s waiting for the time until he does get hungry as he doesn’t like wasting his meals with no appetite ? Who knows , who cares ?
I honestly love all of your content. You do amazing work and soo knowledgeable. I appreciate you educating us!
I appreciate that!
Once paddling out, as I crested a wave and came down the back side of it, I suddenly found myself looking at a 3 feet dorsal fin cruising by just feet away in front of me. It scared the crap out of me. I turned around to take the first wave in, but I knew it had known about my presence, even as I was blissfully going over that wave towards it, and there was no way I coulda gotten away if it wanted to chomp
Bet you were happy you weren’t wearing dry underwear at that moment 😅
New to your channel and i have to say, i’m a fan. Love the footage and your approach to teaching and understanding! Keep it up 🤘🏻
Amazing Video, I absolutely love all the stuff you do to film and research these amazing creatures in their natural environment. Thank you so much.
Best you tube content on sharks. Well done.

Always very Informative and helpful 👍Thank You 🙏
Love your videos. Beautifully shot with interesting facts given. Well done 👏🦈
I used to vacation in the Florida gulf every summer. Our condo was on the 23rd floor. You could see the sharks in the water. I stopped going into the ocean years ago.
Ditto- great content, info, quality and speaking voice!
I truly love your videos and how you show the sharks.
I love these videos. Thank you for helping to fill those large gaps of knowledge. Especially regarding pelagic sharks. Keep it up!
I can't believe you don't have more followers. You create amazing content.
Awesome footage!
Thank you for your patience, wealth of knowledge, compassion and then sharing with us!
I had already subscribed, and APPRECIATE YOUR WORK, to teach us how to respect these amazing creatures!
I live in a suburb close to Scarborough Beach, Western Australia and swim a lot at the beach, also with my Grandies!
Do Great Whites swim close to reefs, or are we less inclined to encounter one there!
Kindest regards, Kerri ❤❤❤
Thank you for another calm, informative video.
Thank you for filming these incredible creatures! 🌊
I have been following you from the start and absolutely love the true nature of this amazing animal being shown!! Huge thumbs up!!!
Great video!
I love watching your videos, they help relax me 😊
Another beautiful video. Thank you.
Great as always, thanks!
I just love what you do! It is amazing how much you are bringing to light for the awareness and collaboration of human activity and shark activity. So all can remain safe and enjoy natures immense beauty.
If your common sense tells you that it's safe to go into a apex predators known turf, you're spinning the wheel. Do not make them appear as friendly cuddly animals, for they are wild predators.
Yes correct. They are extremely dangerous in the wrong circumstances and at the wrong time, more than likely fatal in the case of a physical encounter
Exactly, I wouldn't be surprised if soon another horrible video like that Russian guy mauled by a tiger shark, will be up on the web. There are plenty of people who studied wild animals portrait them as "not dangerous" to humans and eventually died or injured by them. Fascinating but not safe
@@budibausto The friendly loveable chimpanzee has been known to do some horrible things to humans. After they remove all of your fingers, they rip of your testicles and bury them to really piss you off.
Sharks aren’t a threat to humans until they are. Love this guys videos

Thank you for this wonderfully informative video, please keep it up and make more. Not only to protect people but also the Sharks who are at home and are, well, sharks!
Amazing footage.
Many thanks!
Amazing footage as always, tfs Julie 🇬🇧
Coming from South FL, I know sharks are everywhere. It’s amazing there aren’t more human/shark traumatic interactions. At the end of the day humans pose more of a danger to sharks, than sharks do to us.
Great content. Thank you!
Thank you for educating us❤
Love your videos..amazing creatures and you're doing a great job educating us all about them
Very informative video. Thanks!
You are an educational hero and only through your rational awareness are so many people learning
Thank you for your content!! As a local myself I always love these videos because It shows our neighbors are not too far from us 🦈😉
I stumbled across your videos a few days ago, and I am blown away. The footage is so beautiful and peaceful it has moved me to tears.
Part of me wants to go to California now with a good pair of goggles, just to see if I can spot a White Shark swimming on it's way!
Wonderful video and commentary
Great content!
Sharks have gone through millions of years of evolution, their hunting instincts have been finely honed over time, so it's actually quite amazing that they've learnt relatively quickly to ignore human behaviour in this example. When it comes to coexisting with sharks we tend to think humans have to do all the work but it's clear from the drone footage that sharks are doing their part by being very selective over the prey they hunt.
I guess you didn't get the memo. Evolution is just a dam theory. All creatures on Earth were created by God exactly the way they're supposed to be. God bless you.
I don't think dams have anything to do with evolution unless it relates to catfish @@patrickpalacio2047
Love your chanel. Absolutely love sharks.
Love your footage - amazing creatures!
Your videos are so informative. I learnt more about great whites behaviors here, than all the seasons of "Shark Week" combine. To see them swim among us ( mostly unaware) and yet the distance themselves when coming in contact with swimmers is pretty intelligence. Loving the ocean and a swimmer myself on either coast (Cali/FL), I'm using the information to traverse their natural environment.
Amazing job, dude. Crongatulations from Brazil!
Thank you for educating us on the awesome sharks
Your content is truly amazing, thank you for sharing such incredible interactions! Is there a way that you can alert the swimmers that the sharks are close? Maybe a sign of some sort on the drone, I would imagine it will only be a matter of time until you capture something I'm sure our eyes do not want to see....
Great footage!
Thank you, Carlos❣️
Fascinating, I live in Puerto Rico and such detail footage mayme feel overwhelmed, even though I am a triathlete thanks for sharing this
Amazing Carlos. Amazing. Articulated so well. There are places to enjoy the ocean. There are places your asking for trouble. Respect comes with information. You are invaluable to the safety cause and enjoyment of the beautiful outdoors. It's one of the most important parts of life to enjoy. Bravo on this amazing video. Fan forever.
If a shark is hungry your fair game and it won’t be mistaken identity either.
One day you'll catch the unimaginable on film.
Facts, it’s going to happen eventually. Sharks do feed on humans if they are hungry enough and it’s an open opportunity.
The GWS is an apex predator and knows exactly how its pray moves. The attack on Simon Nellist and the Russian man on Egypt show exactly that.
I agree. Eventually he will film a horrible attack. Until then, there’s always Orca to exact revenge.
@@darthrzr The Russian guy was attacked by a Tiger Shark, which was later found to be under weight for it's size, so it had very little to eat before the attack.
@@darthrzrmight or more probably might not, hopefully.. attacks just aren't common and it's probably nothing new that they're there all the time. But I certainly couldn't stand getting that footage of them near kids, or even go for a swim there lol
Great video and commentary again.
At some point could you come out East and film any sharks that are off the shores of New England and the Jersey shore?
I believe he was here on the Cape last year!
These are awesome shots & this is a phenomenal channel. It’s amazing to showcase this side of these animals. However I do feel like it’s only a matter of time until he catches a human predation on film. Hoping that’s not the case obviously, but the law of averages might say otherwise. Keep up the great work!
Great video - My question if I met you would be - How close have you come to filming a shark attack?
Awesome video thank you
Thank you so much!!!
Barriers in the water to keep the sharks away from the shallow areas is all that's needed. If anyone goes beyond that, they do it at their own risk
Not sure how “education “ prevents a shark attacking me!
If you know the times and sea conditions where attacks are more likely, then that education could prevent an attack.
I think time of the day your in water, conditions of water before entering,I personally think going in ocean at dusk or at night the primal instinct of sharks are more heightened for a attack.
Like bears. The only predictable thing about them is that they're unpredictable.
Amazing, as ever
Thanks Carlos!!!!! I'll treasure these Uploads. I'll understand these animals have been doing what they do on their path which is weird that I wasn't their brunch or afternoon tea.
Could it be safe at times? Thank you!!!!
thank you as usual for helping people understand these beautiful animals. A keystone species since time immemorial.
Not gonna lie. Ever since I saw Jaws as a kid, it has terrified me. To this day, I dont like going in the ocean, and I tell my kids the same thing, although they've never watched Jaws (I tried to not push my own insecurities on to them). I get it that the chances of something happening are remote. Probably more chance of being in a fatal vehicle accident. But I think it's more about the feeling of being in control. When I'm in the ocean, I KNOW I'm not in control. They are much bigger than us, their teeth are perfectly designed to rip flesh, and I don't particularly want to be remembered as the meal of a large predator. At least if I'm in a car, I can deal with things around me and have some small hope to influence the outcome. At least, that's what I tell myself...
good job thanks.
Why don't the life guards at the beaches perform drone sweeps and look for sharks every day?
You're going to need a bigger surf board!
Thanks!
Thanks again for sharing this! 💯
I enjoy your videos and shark knowledge. I have to confess I will no longer go into the ocean!
So relaxing and I love sharks :)
