Natália Macedo Funny thing is there has always been a stigma about gender bending that comics like Joan could only call it being a drag queen is no surprise especially given the era this was. Nowadays we have progressed (to a degree,) and can't say tranny. It's just not politically correct.

Young gay folk pay attention. This is why you have so much of the acceptance and freedom you experience today. It's people like Silverster and Boy George and so many others that were not famous, that dare to be themselves and stood up for us when it was not a popular thing to do.

It was an honor to work for him for many years and I treasure all the moments with him. He will always and forever hold a special place in my heart. We are doing a Tribute in his honor this year.

I met Sylvester at a club called The No Name in Providence Rhode Island in 1985!
He was a sweet kind down to earth human being!
Children I was gonna loose it but he had a calming effect on me.
I asked so many questions and he answered them all.
Mind you he was touring with his Rock The Box album.
He had a keyboard and a microphone & himself alone.
    He tore that place apart.
That falsetto voice was amazing and he knew exactly what he was doing standing behind the synthesizer and dancing and singing his Ass off!
    Rise in power beautiful one!!!🎉🎉🎉💕💕💕😘

Madeleine Hague Brave soul to be himself only to die of AIDS a manufactured virus which started in US in the gay community from the 1978 Hepatitis Vaccine given in NYC. This was a " special" vaccine introduced by a program labeled " Hepatitis B* Vaccine Program* . Africa was the other place this was introduced by Globalist Scum. One reason to this day I hate Nazi manufacturing Merck. Once a Nazi group always a Nazi group. After the war they came here with open arms. HIV is a whole other story separate from AIDS. In addition to his Warner Bros/Megatone Records album Joan is holding, Sylvester was riding high on the charts with "Freeway of Love," taken from the Aretha Franklin multi-platinum selling album Who's Zooming Who, also an album track, featuring a very audible Sylvester on background vocals, doing both his famous falsetto and tenor voices in a call-and-response to Aretha. For a man to be openly gay on TV in 1987... guts! And then says he's married to 'Rick'. Man, too bad all the kids were in bed when this was airing.

...and he was openly (and famously) gay over a decade before that. A true pioneer.

You're right. I was about 11 when this aired and had to be in bed. Nowadays kids stay up all night and wake up at 1pm

OMG Thank you for posting this! I remember seeing this when it was originally aired, I want to say back in 86 or 87 (I know the song came out in 86 and he died in 88 so not sure when this was aired). Never thought I would see it again.

Sylvester was so far ahead of his time. I saw him live in the 80's and he was great! I really miss him so much. Really miss him! What a great gay man!

Amen to that, i'm gay, white AND Christian and I know god created me the way he wanted, i've never read anywhere of Jesus preaching" hate". I had the honour of seeing Sylvester in my hometown in the U.K. in 1982, he was a very gentle gentleman.

I love hearing Sylvester with the Two Tons Of Fun. Still, it's good that they went out on their own as "The Weather Girls", as they are far too talented to be mere background singers. At the same time, Sylvester was SO talented that he didn't need background singers. He could definitely hold a song on his own.

"Someone Like You" was always my favorite Sylvester song. I remember watching this Joan River segment when it first aired. I believe I read somewhere that Sylvester knew that he was HIV positive when he was recording and promoting this particular album (his last). How sad.
