Attila and Thrones of Britannia could have been 2 trailblazer campaigns to Medieval 3, followed closely by call backs to Medieval 2 GC and DLC campaigns. You summed up among the great ideas that could be done and done better to benefit not just MTW but all of historical titles, had Warhammer not been so privileged and prioritized.
I hope that they look at what they did right with WH, and apply those lessons to the historicals. Sure, WH has a grand sweeping in depth lore... but so does real history. There is a lot of cool stuff to work with to make great mechanics and diversity, similar to the factions in WH.
Whatever our next historical game is, I severely hope it has less focus on individuals like how three kingdoms and Troy have done. And more focus on the nation states like in the older days like how Rome and Attila and medieval 2 did. I have no stakes in wanting medieval 3 or empire 2 as I have no big attachment to those games. So whatever comes I will play. I just hope the scale is grand. And if we get empire I hope it is world sized. It's the biggest thing I like about Warhammer 3 is the big map.
I get why they would make Medieval game before Empire 2, and empire 2 might just benefit from it. But if people want to play with spears, bows and cavalry, they can satisfy some of their cravings in other games. If people want to play with muskets and bayonets, they only have Empire, Napoleon and Shogun 2 to choose from. Shogun 2 is a great game, limited by its setting. Empire was very flawed game, and if you could add more provinces then it could be modded to be enjoyable, but since you can't any campaign will always remain lackluster. Napoleon is a great title, but again limited by it's setting, and still greatly limited by number of provinces imo. But if Empire would have had all of the map with as many provinces as Napoleon's Europe, then it would have been good enough. But since all we got in Napoleon was Europe, it would be great if province and faction limits would be higher.
Totally agree with you. Few words for province system vs city system: The first one was suitable for Rome 2 due to historical basis and it became great in Attila with governors. However, I agree with you that medieval 3 should be based on city system for 2 reasons: 1. In medieval age, especially in Italy, there was feudalism. 2. City system could open to a more detailed map with cities surrounded by farms and castles. How to manage battles in these kind of settlement: fighting a battle in a farm should be as in Three Kingdoms, with open fields battles in the early stages of development and assault to fortified positions in the late stages (think for example to the italian hamlets); on the other hand, fighting a battle in a castle settlement should be like in Medieval 2 Britannia, in which there where lot of forts in strategic point; I think they should be placed around the cities or at the borders of the regions in a way that they have to be sieged before to proceed to assault the main settlement.
I'm going to be the guy to say, Andy, you don't speak for all of us! I don't want to see a Medieval 3, mainly because of how overhyped the idea of it has become. I mean, so many people are frantically calling out for a Medieval 3, but not fully understanding what that might entail. I for one would much rather see CA use their resources far more effectively on an Empire 2 and a Total War: Antiquity.
You totally the point of Medieval Total War and that is the Castles. Life evolved around castles and they were a symbol of status with various designs and technologies applied and the same for sieging them. Knights and Castles should be the core with the option to design castles and there destruction mechanics must be in the game to be a true successor. The original Medieval 2 with deep Castle gameplay and a tweaking to factions and that would make a great Medieval 3 game, obviously with state of the art graphics we have today.
honestly i hope CA just starts shamelessly copying paradox games in terms of some campaign mechanics. I just want ANYTHING to do on the campaign map other than get richer and wider
I think a M3TW should have a larger scale (not scope) to the map. So that these historical kingdoms that were powerfull in their own right, actualyl feel like true KINGDOMS not just some small faction with 3-5 settlements. Having a larger scale, at least that of rome 2, would be great because it would make these locations feel more like the medieval times. Also, please, please, please. Don't make finland into an island, let us have northern scandinavia to play in. It would be so cool to play as the sapmi people and as a nordic person myself, it feels so sad when all of scandinavia with it's vast empty landscapes that provide it's own uniqueness in gameplay style is just some forgotten island somewhere.
Enough with the pointless hype, the golden age of Total War is long gone. If a Medieval 3 is announced, i’ll sit around with dread and wait for people to bitch and moan about it somehow being worse than its predecessor on release.
I hate to be pessimistic about new TW titles but if I learned anything from the last few games released. Don’t expect a full game on release, arcade feeling battles, huge focus on single units (hero) being OP, sieges feeing more like a chore that you auto resolve, and no synchronized combat. After all that I do hope TW comes out with a good historical title one day that’s worthy of being called Medieval 3 or Empire 2
We need a great appetizer with ME2 remastered, that we can play for 2000 hours, until we finally get ME3, which has to be perfect, which we can play again for 20000 hours then.
I want the chance to go ahistorical. For example, Medieval 3 should first make some major rivers as navigable as seas. Then, it should give us the opportunity to invest in projects that could greatly change the campaign dynamic. For example, reopening the ancient Pharaoh's canal connecting the Nile to the Red Sea would basically turn into a semi Suez-Canal scenario. It might not be realistic, but that's the fun part of gaming. Another thing, is giving us more faction freedom. For example, in Medieval 2, some factions have better access to gunpowder units due to historical inventors being from there. What if you get a mechanic where if you capture a settlement, you get a chance to gain a faction follower that would unlock muskets? This can even be connected to the tech tree. Why invest in techs that other factions unlocked when you can steal it from them? Finally, a complete unit overhaul. I'm sick of the boring levies remaining cannon fodder even when they have max XP. There should be an option to upgrade them to a higher tier unit. The retraining mechanic of Medieval 2 needs to return, especially as you construct buildings that give bonuses to units recruited in a certain province
I would love to see cww1 or earlier. Mix between old school military tactics and use of gunpowder and artillery. Always thought it would be super fun and dynamic
I also recommend you look up The Great War: Western Front. It is not out yet, but a number of UA-camrs have done videos on its demo, and it is not exactly TW meets First World War, but it is not exactly not that either. VTH Gaming is one of the channels that did a video on it, but there are a number of others, if he is either not your style, or you want multiple opinions.
We can only hope, but excuse me if i press X to doubt. Optimistic but not holding my breath. I will say though, Faction mechanics will definitely bring some depth to the game. And the differences in culture creating different armies. (kinda like how East and West rome are different)
i would really like to see total war Mongol empire which will include every civ who stood on their way starting from chinese including eastern eu kingdoms. but medieval with mongols at east would be ok too
3:13 I know that it sounds good but in reality I dont like it. I would like a technology system thats bound to ressources. If you have metal you go knights and so on. The nation that focused their research on armor should have the best armor. Like paradox.
That sounds very interesting as well! Although I would argue it would be good to also have it tied to research - for ideas for example, that's also like in Paradox.
A game that starts from the Medieval era and goes to the end of the great war as one massive mix of paradox Crusader Kings, Eu4, vic 2 and total war medieval 2, empire and napoleon Representing 3 different eras: medieval, renaissance, industrial and a special great war mod were u use everything from ur campaign game in one massive war
I am hopeful and looking forward to Medieval Total War 3 becoming a reality. However, sometimes I can't help but wonder if they're even paying attention to what the loyal fans of the Total War Series actually want? I'm sure that there's many like myself that have been with Total War series since the very beginning. I honestly still favor the gamely of the original Medieval Total War and its successful expansion pack Viking Invasion. Actually I'd like to see the Dark ages (early Medieval) included in Medieval Total War 3 Giving an earlier starting time approximately (476 or 500 AD) 500-1000 AD Early 1000-1300 AD Middle 1300-1500 AD Late In the original MTW the graphics were much more simplistic and inferior compared to today's standards, however there was a certain undeniable charm. In the expansion pack Viking Invasion I especially liked how attention was paid to nation regions such as Khazaria, which was an important empire between east and west. I agree with the ideas that were mentioned in the video. I also think the gamely elements from the original MTW were brilliant and addictively immersive. Having titles you could give your characters was genius like elevating a general to king was so cool. In contrast stripping titles from an unwanted official or general was very useful indeed. Vices and Virtues had a greater impact in the original MTW it's more fun when your offspring could inherit noble and not so noble traits and attributes depending upon gameplay factors. I liked how Inquestors could wreck havoc across the map in Catholic Kingdoms. When a Kingdom sent an army on a Crusade the Crusading armies would drain the nation's military population and possibly wreck some buildings on their way through a country in route to the Crusades. I really liked how unique mercenaries could only be recruited in their respective regions ex: Swiss Pikes (Switzerland) Trebizond Archers (Trebizond). I also enjoyed the elements of high intrigue which took place during the Medieval eras. So emissaries (need greater influence) spies and assassins should be able to develop higher abilities or better chances to wreck their own nefarious plots for the players that like to play underhanded. At any rate I'm anxiously awaiting positive news about the development of the most glorious Medieval Total War 3! 😎
Instead of expensive DLC's I hope they make the campaign challenging and add the You have to defeat the faction in order to unlock it, same as M2TW and RTW
Medieval 3 is going to be a reskin of Attila, which is a reskin of Rome 2. We already have mk1212 mod. Thus, It would be better to have a remastered medieval 2, or at least an original medieval 2 with modding limits lifted, because some mods for M2TW are better than modern TW games, to be honest.
Having mods like 1212/1100 ad so active on development, for me it means like clearly even if most people want med 3, it won't happen for years. just a dream to never come true. Come on after 16 years why now? It's more likely never
the 1212ad mod was very impressive .Best mod I've ever played. I still remember the reason I bought total war Attila cause the mod . Imagine if medieval 3 total war was released it'd blow my mind xD
i would rather prefer an Empire 2 in global scale than a Medieval III..The medieval game genre market is way too overbloated and saturated(CK3, Bannerlord, Knights of Honor..and etc)..And for all intents and purposes, the "Medieval Kingdoms" mod for Attila IS the Medieval III Total War..even more so now that with the new mods editor breakthrough finally allowing editing of the campaign map..
Really hope the bring back family trees, and not be character focus like troy and warhammer totalwar games. I like total to focus being sandbox and be more story driven. It would be cool if we could make are own knightly crest with it own emblem that displayed are own colors on are a unit of knights
I would love mediaeval 3 but I think it should be realsed 2 years after the remake of mediaeval 2. So it can attract fans from fantasy and so the company can perfect game engines and systems. Also it might be a good idea not to name it medieval 3. I feel that the fan base is over critical of the games and most of the games are really good if not fantastic. Like Britana was a great game and I believe because the reception was so bad that they decided to delay medieval 3.
Even if Feral are working on M2TW Remastered they can't confirm due to legal restrictions. They are professionals after all. So don't believe a word they say on the topic.
If they make this game in the warscape engine it will not be good. They need to move on from it, it is aged and mechanically limited. I don't think they'll go away from the province system, they have been using it since Rome Total war 2.
To be frank, with the current CA I expect a medieval III that is worse than the Medieval 1212 AD mod for Attila. Sadly that the current state of the company

Great video. Been wanting a 3rd installment for years now. Never had any interest in the fantasy titles over the past decade...
Absolutely! I assume the scale will be much larger than it’s ever been on a Medieval 3 map. And hopefully Scandinavia would get more love as well
Enough with the pointless hype, the golden age of Total War is long gone. If a Medieval 3 is announced, i’ll sit around with dread and wait for people to bitch and moan about it somehow being worse than its predecessor on release.
Scammer
I want role-playing elements ala CK3. I spent a lot of time in the first games working on the family lines
Give me Empire 2
I’d like that as well, Carl
Can you make a video on Real Time Battle Expectations for Medieval 3?
I hate to be pessimistic about new TW titles but if I learned anything from the last few games released. Don’t expect a full game on release, arcade feeling battles, huge focus on single units (hero) being OP, sieges feeing more like a chore that you auto resolve, and no synchronized combat. After all that I do hope TW comes out with a good historical title one day that’s worthy of being called Medieval 3 or Empire 2
@Andys_Take what is a PS5?
Just imagine how great would be a medieval remastered. It was already great, with the remaster, probably would be the best grand strategy game.
Pues sí, estamos de acuerdo.
I would love to see cww1 or earlier. Mix between old school military tactics and use of gunpowder and artillery. Always thought it would be super fun and dynamic
Have you tried the Great War mod for Napoleon? I could never get it to work back in the day, but I hear that it's good.
@@MrVersipellis I haven't. Tbh I haven't paid attention to napoleon in a long time but it's probably time to change that
I also recommend you look up The Great War: Western Front.
I know im dumb, but what mod is that medieval one again that is seen in this so much?
Medieval Kingdoms 1212 for Attila
i would really like to see total war Mongol empire which will include every civ who stood on their way starting from chinese including eastern eu kingdoms. but medieval with mongols at east would be ok too
Shogun 3. Alt unit movement
@@AndysTake Sounds also great. And there would be another layer to the replayability. Lets Hope.
I would honestly prefer a Empire 2 instead of a Medieval 3
I want them to bring back naval.
Smart choice
Something in between maybe?
A game that starts just before the end of the middle ages like Europa Universalis 4?
I would love it for sure
A game that starts from the Medieval era and goes to the end of the great war as one massive mix of paradox Crusader Kings, Eu4, vic 2 and total war medieval 2, empire and napoleon
Representing 3 different eras: medieval, renaissance, industrial and a special great war mod were u use everything from ur campaign game in one massive war
Been playing since shogun, the original. 90's kid
Actually I'd like to see the Dark ages (early Medieval) included in Medieval Total War 3
Giving an earlier starting time approximately (476 or 500 AD)
500-1000 AD Early
1000-1300 AD Middle
1300-1500 AD Late
In the original MTW the graphics were much more simplistic and inferior compared to today's standards, however there was a certain undeniable charm.
We need a new engine first. Then we can talk about a Medieval 3.
My medieval looks so bad compared to yours what mods do you use ????
Instead of expensive DLC's I hope they make the campaign challenging and add the You have to defeat the faction in order to unlock it, same as M2TW and RTW
Bout time this game comes out
Absolutely
What pc need for it?😢
Medieval 3 is going to be a reskin of Attila, which is a reskin of Rome 2. We already have mk1212 mod. Thus, It would be better to have a remastered medieval 2, or at least an original medieval 2 with modding limits lifted, because some mods for M2TW are better than modern TW games, to be honest.
Empire 2
And do not forget the Mongols! They were a real existential threat for medieval states in the vanilla campign of Medieval II; And in real History too!
Lord knows what they’re working on, I have a sinking feeling it’ll be something nobody asked for or wanted though.
i mostly want the things from mtw2 with added features from other total war games
Is that 1212AD on the screen?
Yes indeed!
@@AndysTake nice
Having mods like 1212/1100 ad so active on development, for me it means like clearly even if most people want med 3, it won't happen for years. just a dream to never come true. Come on after 16 years why now? It's more likely never
Empire 2 would be my no1 pick
the 1212ad mod was very impressive .Best mod I've ever played. I still remember the reason I bought total war Attila cause the mod . Imagine if medieval 3 total war was released it'd blow my mind xD
Combining totalwar, eu4, ck3, and KoH
i would rather prefer an Empire 2 in global scale than a Medieval III..The medieval game genre market is way too overbloated and saturated(CK3, Bannerlord, Knights of Honor..and etc)..And for all intents and purposes, the "Medieval Kingdoms" mod for Attila IS the Medieval III Total War..even more so now that with the new mods editor breakthrough finally allowing editing of the campaign map..
So now its possible to create more cities and move borders etc?
@@borzmir9326Apparently yes, the guys from the LOTR mod cracked it
Really hope the bring back family trees, and not be character focus like troy and warhammer totalwar games. I like total to focus being sandbox and be more story driven. It would be cool if we could make are own knightly crest with it own emblem that displayed are own colors on are a unit of knights
What game is it you keep showing men on horses ???? and mod?
When???
At the beginning I realize it’s Attila now lol
At the beginning I realize it’s Attila now lol
At the beginning I realize it’s Attila now lol
At the beginning I realize it’s Attila now lol
I would love mediaeval 3 but I think it should be realsed 2 years after the remake of mediaeval 2. So it can attract fans from fantasy and so the company can perfect game engines and systems. Also it might be a good idea not to name it medieval 3. I feel that the fan base is over critical of the games and most of the games are really good if not fantastic. Like Britana was a great game and I believe because the reception was so bad that they decided to delay medieval 3.
the proud 6% 😁
Yessss hahaha 👏
Actually, I want an Empire 2.
A Victorian Age TW would be great as well.
I just want a gunpowder era TW to be honest.
If they take inspiration from games like CK3 for Medieval 3 it could be the best Total War game.
HEYECANLA BEKLİYORUM :)
Even if Feral are working on M2TW Remastered they can't confirm due to legal restrictions. They are professionals after all. So don't believe a word they say on the topic.
Medieval 3 IS my wet dream
Empire 2.
If they make this game in the warscape engine it will not be good. They need to move on from it, it is aged and mechanically limited. I don't think they'll go away from the province system, they have been using it since Rome Total war 2.
Yes we want it.
I believe it will be empire 2
2:10 what TW is this?
TW Troy
well... I just want, by god, Empire total war 2 or something like Pike and Shot, like 30 years war with renessance. Sorry for my bad english...
Empire 2 would be better, plus they should make it easier to mod.
To be frank, with the current CA I expect a medieval III that is worse than the Medieval 1212 AD mod for Attila. Sadly that the current state of the company
we want a remake of medieval 2.
@Andys_Take shot ya dmn mouth bot
I don't think Med 2 needs a remaster. But Med 1 is another matter, because it is in many ways better than the continuation.
Yeah, I'd play a Medieval 3. But I would REALLY, REALLY, REALLY prefer a gunpowder game. Such as Empire 2 or Napoleon 2.
I'm still completely engrossed in WH3. And when the Chaos Dwarf pack drops I'll completely forget other games exist. But sure, M3TW would be cool too
Explain it to me - what’s the deal with Chaos Dwarfs?
It’s just hype… Warhammer 1 to 3 is the same game… love it but bored of fantasy. Though Lotr would be great 😅
@@AndysTake heavy artillery.
Lots of it.
@@AndysTake Artillery trains, as mentioned. But more importantly: Evil dwarf sorcerers who gradually turn to stone the older they get, experimenting with summoning fire demons and chaining them to machinery. Also, the sorcerers ride flying bulls. While throwing fireballs. And looking absolutely badass. The Dawi-Zharr are my absolutely favourite Warhammer race, bar none. Their entire look with the big hats, curly mesopotamian beards and tusks is just perfection.
We need MTW2 remastered and nothing more.
Mods will create madness and chaos. ☝️
Lets look at the fact: please note its pnly speculations….
we know it is not going to happen sadly :(
I would like to see a more realistic graphics instead of cartoon ones like Troy.
I'd prefer a Renaissance: Total War that takes place in 1400s-1600s
Empire 2 before Medieval 3
Aight I’m about 3 minutes into the video and you’ve already made two claims that I disagree with first that the Rome remastered was well done it was terrible and practically killed the older total war community and I know because you used to find people in game in the multiplayer even on Rome like ten game or each and now you’ll be hard pressed to find more than 4 going on in med 2 at once or nay in Rome and second that feral would be the ones making medieval 3 if they make it that would be a complete slap in the face to series veterans and a disgrace the series as a whole I don’t agree with many of your take but these ones are just egregious
Gonna be great when they announce WH4 in a few weeks lmao.
