      It took me 16 minutes into the video until I understood that you are not going to talk about a singing technique but meant the eq-ing of the voice recording .......

    This video is super helpful especially the portion addressing the 'looking for ugly frequencies' thing that I do a lot just because I'm very new to EQ-ing. I think there's a lot of helpful videos out there but I think this video and your guides (whether for mics or stuff like this) have really clarified things a lot.

      Yeah its a fine balance between room resonances and vocal content, but people can definitely look for the wrong things sometimes! Glad I could help :)

    To hear you teach in English, but to hear her sing in Spanish (my mother tongue) actually helped tons. Thank you!

    Haha. Just realized the tank top actually distracted me enough I forgot to comment what I originally wanted too.
    Thanks for pointing out how it isn’t necessary to cut out wherever one would sound boxy or muddy. That if abused OT can really take away from a potentially great sounding audio.

    • @AudioHaze
      @AudioHaze  2 роки тому

      Thanks! Yeah basically the nova has crashed like two or three of my projects and I had to revert to a few recovery files. Its uncommon, and it seems like its more common on adobe premiere than any DAW, but that was the "except" :)

    Really good demo and info. Ricky. I've always just slid faders until it sounded good. Hahaa. I should pay more attention and understand what dbs are doing what.

    I wish I'd known how good Nova and other free plugins were when I first started mixing. It was one of the first plugins I got, before buying things like Waves F6, Q2-10, C4, and C6 - but I could have used Nova in most cases.

    To be clear the first EQ was a parametric EQ not a graphic EQ. Yes it had graphic visualizations of the waveform but that does not make it graphic.

    I’d love to see some content about editing/ processing spoken word audio for podcasts and such. I’d even pay for a consult session.

    • @AudioHaze
      @AudioHaze  2 роки тому

      I do have a video about that actually! "Voiceover is not just EQ and Compression" or something like that. But if you want an individual consultation you can email me realaudiohaze@gmail.com and we can set something up :)

    Speaking of mics, do you see any benefit to micing a bass amp versus a line out from the amp? According to the line schematic the line out is right before the power amp section.

    • @AudioHaze
      @AudioHaze  3 роки тому +3

      Most of the time when I'm miking a bass cab its because a bassist has a pedal board, and as a guitarist I know the pain of running a pedal board DI, and I find most players prefer the sound of their board through the amp. So I'll typically do a split through a DI box and get a clean direct signal and also one through the bass cab. I'll use a beta 52 or a d112 if I have it. The RE20 is actually surprisingly good for bass as well :)

    • @jakp8777
      @jakp8777 3 роки тому

      @@AudioHaze I’ll check those mics out. Thanks!
      I have a modeling amp with a tube. The tube even on the line option (no model) definitely adds warmth versus my Fender Rumble.
      I’ll have to do a EQ comparison mic vs line similar to what was done in this video. Supposedly the line out is after the modeling and tube but before the amp.
      The vocalist is extraordinary. It’s hard to make her vocals better, but you’ve done it. Shows you’re level of talent.

    A frequency that really gets on my nerves is that high, air/whistle sound. I find it monstrously distracting and even physically painful at high volume

    That is not a graphic Eq. A graphic Eq has faders for each of a set of fixed frequencies.

    When you’re feeling yourself, feeling sexy, why not wear a stretchy tank? Next sub milestone you should rip it off. Also your channel icon/logo needs to reflect the tank top as well. Please.
