- This tutorial will show you how to change the clutch master cylinder for a ford transit 2004.
This method can be aplicate to nearly all the cars which use a clutch master cylinder.
It will also show you how to blow the air from the clutch circuit.
Sorry again for my bad English but English is not my native language and it's my first tutorial in English too...

My problem is that the clutch is very very soft and "short". I can no longer get the gears in place... can't drive😥
The fluid container is 70% full. The mechanic told me that it's a problem with the clutch pump and we have to take the whole gear box out to fix it...
Does this make any sense? After watching your video I feel like all I need is a little bleeding or replacing the cylinder. What do you think?
Replace all cylinders, but if it's not thé problem, then you will have to pay what the machanic says in addition of both cylinders.
Indeed, thé system to release the clutch could be also thé problem. So, his solution is not stupid.
Maybe you can start with channging both cylinders, but if it's not the problem, then the bill will be more expensive...

How can i open the master cylinder
I have leak in the middle of under engine and gear box got completely stuck few times.
One video suggests that release bearing has to be changed and that is removing gear box :(

They are called cable ties in uk by the way or zip ties (the black plastic straps that you keep the pliers together with)

Hi Where is the accent from and is it the same process for a mk7 2.4 rwd as i am having issues with clutch renewal it has blown 3 concentric slave cylinders now so i am thinking after research that it could be the clutch master cylinder?

Thanks Seb - very informative - My 2005 2.4TDCi has it's master cylinder on the top of the clutch pedal (so no rod going through the bulkhead) but I think this will help me. I have a new master and slave cylinder, so I'm going to start with the master, as my clutch pedal keeps sticking on the floor.
Did you sort yours? My 2005 clutch is on thr floor too. The pedal slowly sank lower over the course of a week. Pressure bled the system it got me about 3 mile home an sank to the carpet again
hey mate i have the same van. an i am facing with a similar issue. was the van able to go more than 3000rpm?
It seems like in some situation the van set a limit to the engine of 3000 rpm

I don't know about the rpm but the van should be really weak, on a slope it should be not really powerful like no more than 60 km/h check the fault with an odb reader, ask the mechanic to do it and he will give you some advices about the problem 👍

the scanner gave me clutch actuator, i believe it is that one. and the clutch pedal is becoming very soft.

Yes, the clutch master cylinder should be leaking.
check the liquid level if the box is empty do 't use it otherwise you will need to blow the air from your break circuit as well.
you have two cylinder, the master and the slave.
they are not expensive but to find the one which is leaking, try to put some liquid in the box if this one is empty.
Try to bleed the air like how I did at the end of the video and try to find which one is leaking.
remplace some the little "o" joint before to change anything and if the leak is still present change the cylinder.

Slave cylinder (at gearbox end)?
I drive my van for a mile and when I clutch to change gear the clutch pedal remains on the floor and I have to pull it up by hand, I pull over and eventually get pressure back but lose it again after a mile or so again, is this the slave cylinder at fault here?
yes it could be the slave or the Master or also the clutch. The cylinder are just plastic piston, so I would be really surprise if it was them. Maybe it's your clutch... you can try to change the cylinders first otherwise go to chech your van by a mechanic

Thanks mate that was too easy.. one mechanic guy said I needed to replace the box for $2000 dollars here in Perth.. After a few quotes it was only the slave and master cylinder..

Hi, I can't bleed mine. We keep pumping but can't build up any pressure. Can you help?
Try to release the tap 2 or 3 sec before pumping.
Then pump, hold and open, then close the tap and pump again.
If it doesn't work you will need to ask a mechanic maybe you have another problem 😉

How to fix your clutch system from the gearbox
exactly the same process to bleed the air and to take it off it's exactly the same things you have to turn it after you removed the pipe from the break fluid.
Be careful to emply the container of the break fluid before to take it off otherwise everything will flush on the ground.
Use gloves to open and close the tap because it's going to be really hard at the end.
