I like the video, though I would slightly disagree with your statement that V doesn't really have a defined personality. Given the main conflict between V and Johnny is framed by Johnny having an opinion on things opposite V's, you can basically just reverse Johnny's personality, and that's V's personality on a lot of points. Sure, lots of times they leave it up to the player to decide the tone of V's reactions, but often the game doesn't, and just has V take a specific stance counter to Johnny without any player input. And also, often the game gives the player the illusion of choice, when it's really not. Like how sometimes the 3 dialogue "options" presented, are all basically different variants on "you're an asshole Johnny" or something similar, mostly in how blunt V is. But the dialogue itself is the same on a fundamental level.
I personally felt that V is actually fairly empathetic and compassionate, and those traits are partly why Johnny changes. Rogue even states this directly when you are on your date with her, commenting about how saying something like "Johnny did this because he wanted to do something nice for you, out of the kindness of his heart" is so alien to Johnny's nature, that she just doesn't believe it. When you convince her it's true, she says that V must be rubbing off on Johnny. So you can infer that as V's personality/persona/etc, or at least some traits to it. V is often auto-scripted to get angry/upset at examples of people being shitty to other people. Like when Johnny says they should just set fire to the Clouds brothel, V doesn't find the statement amusing at all.
Again, I do admit they do leave a lot of it kind of tabula rasa, so the player can tailor V's personality as they play, but in the end, there really isn't a lot of variation to V's personality. It's mostly just boils down to "contrary to Johnny on just about everything" and since Johnny is an asshole on just about everything, then the opposite would be V not being an asshole 😂

@@happyninja42 yeah, I noticed that they don't really let you choose how you react to him so much.
It's almost as if two different teams worked on this part. How he reacts to V, is like the pro Johnny team were working on his stuff. And how V reacts to Johnny it's as tho the anti Johnny team wrote many or most of those replies.
I get that V is angry at Johnny. But right from the start, Vik tells V that "It's not willful, on his part" we know he can't do anything to really stop what's happening to V. He even says this too 'creepin into you like mold on fruit, nothing I can do to stop it'.
And I get that some folks hate his guts. Some, because he's killing 'them' their V, the character they are trying to play as, make their own. But some seem to hate him just because, or just cause they think they would have gotten a better game without him/Keanu
(trust me, it wouldn't have been any better. They swapped tracks halfway thru and then got 'investors and shareholders' and those bozo's don't care if a game is good, or even finished. All *they* care about is returns and money. If they had their way, every game would be 'point/click/pay them money/buy new version of same at full market price' and we would all have to give up games *sigh)
Maybe it's just me seeing that. But I started feeling that after they gave us that auful set of clothes for him. Can't take him seriously when he has that damn Zorg hair. Only thing I like about that set is the dog tags he has there. Yet, strangely enough, that outfit looks great on Kerry o.0

@@silverbane8065 Yeah I agree that Johnny isn't doing it on purpose. Like you said, Vik states it's the chip doing it, not the engram. And there are multiple instances where Johnny says he doesn't like what he's doing. And considering his driving hatred of Arasaka is rooted in the whole idea that they can rewrite who a person is. He abhors that idea, and the fact that he is living through doing it to another person, clearly infuriates him. He's literally the thing he hates about Arasaka, slowly killing someone else's identity. So I get his frustration, and I have no issue with his arc to becoming friends with V. But it DOES start as a confrontational relationship. Johnny SAYS "hey I'm over that shit now, we're buddies", but he still acts very contrary to V's interests at several points. He gets better as the story progresses, that's why it's a character arc, but it definitely STARTS as combative.
As to your comment about Keanu....eh, honestly I don't really like Keanu as an actor. I think the bulk of his work is typecast as a confused stoner dude who just blankly stares at the world around him, and sometimes says "whoa". I like the actual PERSON, all signs indicate he's a really good human being IRL, but as an actor, I find him very bad. Most of his dialogue as Johnny just felt like he was reading from a script, and not actually being the character. So I could've done without him in the role.

@@happyninja42 well, there is a mod on nexus that makes him look more like the original tabletop Johnny. Blonde hair, different face, different clothes. Not sure if it uses another voice. But if you are on PC, you can mod him different.
Its not that I don't think he starts off on the wrong foot with V, its that Vs replies always seem to be angry, antagonistic and aggressive to him, even late into the relationship.
I find it slightly easier with FemV. Some of the back and forth feel less like two angry chooms bickering in a bad way, and more like two friends who are comfortable with each other, and are pulling each others leg.

An important part of Johnny’s character is that he’s a guy who should have died on many occasions, but somehow cheated death. When he was a teenager, he faked his age to join the military and was severely injured. He went AWOL and survived the travel back to the US, ending up in Night City. From then on, he was in a band and partied hard to distract from the feelings he felt from the war, still as a teenager. By the time 2013 came around, he needed a new liver from the amount of drugs and alcohol on top of the damage from getting attacked by Alt’s kidnappers. He was just 25 or almost 25. Then he raided Arasaka and somehow survived. Somehow he survived becoming a target long enough to go back ten years later as revenge for not rescuing Alt. He almost made it to 35, when for all intents and purposes he would have joined the 27 club at the very most. Of course the fucker became immortal.

The cloning tech is cannon, it forms the storyline for Land of the Free (an old CP2020 adventure that's worth checking out)
As an old 2020 player I assumed that simply making an engram of V and using a cloned body was going to be an option in game - the Nomads had helped smuggle the clone across much of the USA. So, when Panam said she might know of a way to help V the cannon seemed pointed to the previous assistance provided by the clans.

What I have loved about Ctberpunk tabletop books is the constincy and believability. Immortality and clones need to be something that is difficult and rare which is why the corps with limitless resources are struggling to create that tech. If it is so simple to do that a single netrunner can keep johnny immortal then it makes no sense that all the corps don't have the same tech and are widely keeping many CEOs etc immortal. There would need to be serious limitations of soul kliller / engrams for the tech not to be common by 2077. If you want to kill and interogate a hacker. Soul killer can be a quick and dirty hack. But to make someone you love immortal that extraction process needs to be 100% accurrate or you will really notice the new back up copy is different. You can notice the smallest things in someone you love.

    Long comment warning
    (Debate and Theory)
In my last comment, my theory for V to have sync with Silverhand's engram was for them to be related in some way even if remotely.
But, what if they are not selected out of blood compatibility but out of brain/soul/background compatibility. A more "selective" method to choose the next body for Jhonny
This would solidify Alt. being the main if not one of the main villains in the overall story.
When you talk to Alt (if you killed the agent), she hovers about "their deal" with Brigitte of giving safe passage to her clan beyond the Blackwall, but if you talk to npcs in Pacifica you'll learn she either lied to Alt or minimized the amount of people of "her clan" since almost all of Pacifica seems to think Alt is taking them with her (easy comparison, like christian apocalipsis where "they go to heaven while the others stay"). BUT, after the "never Fade Away" mission, you can get a dialog with one of the kids who helped you fix the roller coaster saying many of The Voodo Boys dissapeared (including Brigitte) and gives his personal opinion of how AI are tricky geniuses in bottles (ask them to be shorter, they chop your head off).
Most people around the game tells you Jhonny is a manipulative person, a liar, etc. But what if Jhonny is nothing but another victim to Alt's plan. She obviously held a grudge to Arasaka even before she died, what if she manipulated Jhonny into going all out against Arasaka, so she could cover her own tracks of her plan, after Arasaka found out she became the priority target and the rest of the story unfolds. We jump back a bit forward in time where "Alt clone" retrieves Johnny's engram and realizes his body is beyond saving. That's where she starts "harvesting" vessels, people with poor/no background who shared some similarities to Jhonny's "mindset" so it would be easier to sync.
Think about it, the whole job started because Brigitte needed to contact Alt, but where did that come from?, for them to learn about Alt and the "safe haven" beyond the Blackwall there must have been previous communication with either Alt or another AI made either by Brigitte or another clan chief (probably the one previous to Brigitte), so this idea started to evolve as the time passed. Making the Voodo Boys their own personal "physical scouters" for bodies compatible enough with Jhonny's engram.
This goes back to what Dex tells you when you meet him, why would the Voodo boys protect Evelyn's background when she's a "ranyon"? How did they even found out about Arasaka having Jhonny's engram in the first place? Why did they even hired V a second time when they could have just grabbed them in the street and take the chip by their own means? they have the numbers, resources and they clearly don't care what outsiders think of them. It doesn't fit their own M.O.
My theory is that Alt has been manipulating more events than we realized even before she became an A.I. She tricked the Voodo boys to acquire the chip so Jhonny gets a body back and she can keep manipulating him in her crusade (this is where Jhonny's uniqueness show, he is no Blackhand but he had enough prestige to be considered a legend in Night City, moves crowds, be a voice and who knows what else at this point). Stretching a bit more, maybe the Voodo Boys even had volunteers to give up their bodies to Alt and Jhonny but with the Heist going down the pipe, learning someone else had the engram and on top of that, they were being compatible, the Voodo Boys got desperate and tried to make some moves of their own (real reason as to why Brigitte got caught) and that's when Alt decided to zero them once she was able to make contact with V and Jhonny.
It's a lot of rambling so I understand if some parts don't make sense
I hope they give us more answers once the DLC comes out.

    • @silverbane8065
      @silverbane8065 Рік тому +1

Don't think Alt is quite that manipulative tbh.
Also don't think V and Johnny are related (tho, I'd accept they are souls who have met before, so meet again) since that suggestion comes via the Devil ending and Saburo.
Saburo is the manipulative one. He has a plan, for Arasaka and eventually the world. I've said before, the reason he says that you can only live in your kids bodies is to control people. Only the most desperate and ruthless of people would effectively murder their own children, to live on in their bodies.
And it's a known strategy to take out the future, you take out the children of your enemies.
By making the rich and powerful use their children as new bodies, he not only control's them, but stops future enemies being created.
He can also keep those children's minds for ransom, or even set up ways to turn off your access to them with the Relic system. So those gonks buying into the Secure your Soul program, thinking to keep loved ones, (and the more expensive immortality Reliquary version, Saburo's chip type) are just selling themselves to him.
Another reason is bloodlines. Way I hear it, in the east, the bloodline goes thru the son. They inherit everything. No so the daughters. They 'cary' the bloodline, but are not considered the inheritors. You have only a daughter, she cannot take over e. But should she have a son, *he* will be the bloodline now.
Saburo can legally and traditionaly take over everything in his son's body, one way or another.
As to Alt and the voodo boys.
Placide is the reason they rehired V. He wasn't let in on the Relic deets, so could not recognise the chip. Mr Hands comes along, with a willing gonk to use for grunt work, just when Brigitte is out of action, and can't Gibb's slap his gonk a$$ for putting the Silverhand engram in danger. Classic case of subordinate stupidity.
They didn't protect Evelyn for her sake. From their point of view, they were protecting a temporary asset from someone sniffin around, and it didn't matter *who* was sniffin, just that they *were* sniffin right then. Unfortunately for her, Evelyn was always going to die.
First, the VDB's are the kinda folks who would not leave behind anyone that can cause problems later.
Second, there is no way Judy would even *see* FemV if Evelyn was still around. She kinda has to be out of the picture for Judy to be a romancable character. She's got this crush on Evelyn, but hasn't really realised it I think. V gets Judy on the rebound in a way.
But definitely, Evelyn Parker's fate was sealed the moment that guy walked past her down those stairs. Brigitte knew she had a bd implant. Knew she might be recording at that moment. No way she was going to live past her usefulness. Nether was V. If Alt had not gobbled up the VDB's when she did, I guarantee they would have sent hit squads or deamons after V.
They only promised to let V walk away unharmed, after all. Who's to say, that V wouldn't have an...accident or be a target for some other...group after business was done . We are talking Harkonnen levels of thinking here lol. The baron himself would have approved lol.
It's a good thing Alt (probably) stuck to the letter of the bargain with them. Brigitte probably said just "Take us tru de black wall safely" and forgot to add "and bring us back safely too" she wasn't bargaining for a one way trip, planned to use the ai's for her own ends, not join them in the Net. Was likely going to use them as the New Loa and have them work for her Netside, while she got them to control things in the real world.
Don't think Alt cares what happens much in the meatspace world. She only cared to destroy Mikoshi. (Likely so it can never create another bring like her. If she's gone heavy ai, then she won't want the competition. If not, she does not wish for anyone else to suffer her fate) so if you help her get in, she will rip the place down, blow the physical connections too (the one you use will go after you disconnect, we just don't get to see that happen lol) she gets what she wants, the folks out in the meat world will then disect the rotting corpse of what used to be Arasaka Corporation. Win/win to her.
Actually...we never get to see exactly *how* V gets out of Mikoshi. Not once. What if we never actually left it, and alt set up some fancy a$$ Virtu? Or moved us to the Ghost World of Shangri-la? V/Johnny might be stuck in there, living out a life without knowing ... Rabbit hole indeed

This! Nice to see someone talk about Cybergeneration. Back when the whole 2077 thing dropped, I didn't have 3rd ed (remembed looking at it in the store, reading the fall of the towers. But since then, I've seen the pdf vers and that's not in there. So, I must have seen the firestorm book. Ether way, I didn't buy lol)
But I *did* have Cybergeneration along with 2013 box and 2020 2nd reprint.
They talked about Silverhand being 'Your guide, to NightCity' and mentioned an 'immortality chip' and I figured 'welp, whoever gets that immortality, they won't like how it ends' because of Alt.
Not because she would hurt them. Because she's forever trapped in the net. And so would they be. (I figured that the way to immortality in Cyberpunk was thru uploading to the net like she did, but downloading was the same, copy TO never move TO. So one of you would be forever stuck there)
Had no clue who the BigBad was gona be. Just guessed it had to be some big rich Corpo type.
Figured that part of the story would be reuniting Johnny and Alt in some way. And that there was a distinct possibility that Alt would be pivotal in the stopping of the BigBad, one way or another.
Then, they dropped more deets. That Johnny was on this chip in Vs head. 'ah, so *that's* how he's our guide' I thought. I thought maybe this immortality chip was the games gimmick for respawning the player back then lol.
Once I knew he was in our heads, 3 'endings' kinda presented themself to my mind (for him, not for V)
Figured then, that finding Alt would be very important and that she would be how we beat the BigBad (possibly before the ending of the game itself, sort of a halfway point)
And I saw 3 possible endings for them. Good, bad and best. All would involve letting the bad guy win, or so it seemed.
Bad would be that we got Alt to lure the BigBad into what amounted to a cyber prison (and no. I had no idea that was what Spider did to Kei Arasaka lol) but that she would end up trapped inside with the BigBad.
Good would be similar, but she would be able to lure him in without sacrificing herself. She would remain as she was, and Johnny would stay on the chip with V (no one said anything back then, about the chip killing V. )
And best would involve a secret ending. Wasn't sure how, thought maybe find clues, become Johnny's good friend, maybe an extra step to the program Alt would use to trap the BigBad. Instead of Alt being the bait, it would be V in there. BigBad would attack, use Soulkiller on them. But then Johnny would get between V and Soulkiller, take the hit as it were. Vanish from the chip (imagine Soulkiller sees TWO minds in the head, and Johnny's is first in line for the taking, and easier too, being digital. So it gets him rather than V)
V wakes up sore but alive, and Johnny is gone. V goes to tell Alt what happened, only to find Johnny there with Alt. The plan worked, BigBad is forever trapped inside the prison, and Soulkiller yeeted Johnny into the net, like it had Alt. Happy(ish) ending for them, together forever. And since Soulkiller had grabbed Johnny from Vs head, same as it did from normal, he's a full living engram. Complete personality, separate from Alt, can go with her, no merging.
Yeah, I know. 'no happy endings' and yet, in Cybergeneration Johnny and Alt got one, the clone versions at least. So why not?

Exactly. When I made my Alt and Silverhand are still alive videos, many people claimed there are no happy endings in Cyberpunk. However, many fail to see that there’s always a possibility, at least possibilities CLOSE to whatever you could consider happy. Many people just refuse to leave that loop. They’re addicted to the adrenaline fueled and dangerous life style. Never leaving Night City. Which is technically the issue in Cybergenerations. They get their happy ending. They both are brought back and CAN leave together. However they choose to keep fighting, obviously with Silverhand dying and losing himself over and over. It’s the closest thing to a happy ending for them though. I as well love the idea that Cyberpunk utilizes that Soulkiller copied rather than moved. Reminds me of a clip from SAO, in which they discover how to make a clone in a digital structure and the clone freaks out claiming to be the real one and somehow they got tricked into the computer. Really morbid. Hope they dig into that theme in Orion

@@LayedBackGamers I don't know that Johnny kept dying over and over. Slowly loosing bits of himself tho...(unless that's in books for Cybergeneration I don't have. I have the main sourcebook and one other, a supliment)
Far as I knew, he died the first time due to pi$$in in BioTechnica's porridge one time too many with his music, (got his ass blown in half, along with his AV) but the second time he got vaporised (hence, no secondary backup)
From what I can tell, back then Alt just made a backup the first time, rather than using Soulkiller the way it was usually used. So while Johnny was saved, it wasn't the same situation. The book says he started his own studio (Silverhand Studios) and was going by the name Mr John Silverhand by the time Alt Prime dragged him into the cyber evolved revolution. It called him a more mature man (lol)
Course Alt2 totally forgot what she could have done to give both of herselves a happy ending.
Make a backup First, then just before his flesh died, used Soulkiller on him. Two Silverhands. One for the flesh and one for the digital. Then again, maybe back then she loved him enough that she didn't want him to be stuck there too. But forgetting that he'd probably have done it anyway, to be with Alt.
They really *were* Cyberpunk's Romeo and Juliet, lol.
I guess we wait for Orion and see if Saburo survived or not. Cause if he did......hoooooo boy. Not only will no one get a happy ending, I think the World will be done and gone. No wonder the big tech boys are moving to Mars in the game lol.

I like the cyberpunk generations pov. I was looking up judge dread and found out he had an evil twin brother. It made me think of altered carbon where the main fights his own sleeve in a cage match and that makes me hope for something similar for Johnny. Since he's in our head and whatever reason we are stuck in a cage match fighting the body of Johnny silver hand except its old man Johnny. Somehow I hope cdpr is able to say what actually happened to his body, and if there truly are scientific experiments going on in the combat zone I hope militech is able to swoop in with a properly cloned body for v while Johnny takes the old body and spends the rest of his life with rogue.

This was a pretty interesting video but as you play the game Johnny changes as a person and sees he could have done things differently at the end of cyberpunk 2077 I do believe that v wont be saved and when a new ending comes to the dlc will probably be a different ending but still got good ending so I think Johnny taking over v body seems like the right choice so many people will disagree but it seems like the right thing to do because of how much Johnny silverhand changes as a person and he would let you keep your body and even tries to convince you to just make the most you have left to live

      @LayedBackGamers  Рік тому

If they end up not adding a new ending in Phantom Liberty (Made a video covering the idea), I’d say that the secret ending, don’t fear the reaper, is the canon ending. It is only triggered by completing Silverhands character arc so it fits the best. No one gets killed fighting with V, and Arasaka is struggling to recover from the attack!

    • @LayedBackGamers
      @LayedBackGamers  Рік тому

@@bugdi7544 My bad, I'd say that the legend ending is canon simply because Silverhand wants V to keep the body. V always wanted to be a legend, it completes his character arc as well as Johnnys, learning to give an opportunity to someone else instead of taking it for himself. There is likely another Silverhand in the world too so it remains in his theme anyway, so now there would be one with the ALT AI, and with the clone.
