That is how a cover should be done. She stayed true to the original but did not try to mimic it. Doing it that way completely changed the tone and I really liked it...😊😊
Emily's slowed down approach takes on a totally different feel to the song. Her enunciation is pristine and she has given a flawless performance!! She has put her own stamp on her rendition. 😊 Though is saying all that; I agree with Ginger, that I would love to see Emily 'let her hair down' (so-to-speak) and give a rocking and pumping performance of this song! 🎤🎶 She would make it electric for sure!⚡ She is so talented that whatever she does seems to be awesome!
Loved it. Fascinating how the exact same lyrics can give you two completely different songs. Guess that's why we call them artists.( Thanks for the request Brad.)
Well, I always let them know when she posts a new video. I don’t think I specifically chose this one, but I do love it. She has a few newer ones since this was posted. I love anything she does. 😊
The combination of purity of voice and Emily's vocal phrasing is breathtaking. Put her alongside any number of female singers singing the same song (audio only) and you can easily pick out Emily. She's already got her own distinctive sound. I always thought of this as a bit of a throwaway 80s pop song and never paid any attention to the lyrics. No word sheet ever needed to listen to Emily. I think Mike is right, Emily feminised the song and she performed it in a way that most suits her style. I loved the way she wrapped her voice around the words and the message. And it turned out perfect. Ginger, now we know that the original is one of your all time faves, I can understand that not even Emily can top that for you. And you're right, it almost like a completely different song and should be listened to in that way. I did watch a video of Bruce performing this live, just him solo on acoustic guitar. I liked it a lot more than the original, but not as much as Emily's. For something "edgy", you could try Emily's cover of Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now". An incredibly difficult song to cover. But she does an uptempo kind of honky tonk piano version that also shows some of the fun side of her personality. And thanks to Brad for bringing more Emily!
Hi Mike and Ginger, it's Mick from the UK. Thank you for reacting to Emily's cover of Dancing In The Dark, which as you say is like a completely different song from the original. I love everything about Emily's music, and she must have the clearest vocals on the planet, but I must admit that I was wary of this cover myself when the original is so well known. But as I should have realised with Emily, there was nothing to worry about. In fact, after two or three listens I couldn't get Emily's version out of my head. It is sooooo good, and is now THE VERSION, without question. Yes, you can dance around to Bruce Springsteen, but when it comes to embedding a song in your brain, it is Emily every time for me. Now, as we are talking about Emily, ( well I am), can I remind you of my suggestion to you to react to her original song Game, Set And Match which she wrote with the US Tennis Open in mind? The Open is soon upon us and it would be a good time to react to it. Thank you. Just one more thing, someone has commented on Emily's cover of Queen's Don't Stop Me Now. An excellent cover when Emily was only thirteen. She said at the time that it was the most difficult song for her to cover, but the effort was worth it. You want "edgy," react to that one sometime, you wont be disappointed. Once again, thank you. Take care, kind regards, Mick.
Excellent comment Mick. I think the Open starts today. Mike and Ginger, her song he is recommending is an original that she wrote, rather than a cover. Something different to review. 😊
So cool! Ginger, you’re too funny😆 I admit, I can imagine that when you jump around a concussion may not be completely out of the realm of possibilities, but I assume that you have had enough experience with those potential weapons to be able to keep control! of them! 😂 Besides, we all know that Mike will gladly lend a helping hand, (or two!😊) Thanks guys for getting Emily on again. I am glad I didn’t have to grovel. 😊 I’ll be honest with you, I liked a couple of Bruce’s older songs, but I was not a huge fan. I did love the ‘big man’. There’s a young man in Em’s circle of musicians who’s a great sax player too that she could have grabbed. But I like the way it sounds now. It’s funny, but one of my favorite songs from that era is Bruce’s, but performed way, way better by Manfred Mann. I like Em’s version better than the original too. But taste is a personal thing.😊 This slow-paced tempo allows the emotions of it to flow. I wouldn’t have chosen this song to review given your love of the boss.😊 she performs Live And Let Die and it is very lively, it rocks.
I belong to the 1% (and that's probably a generous number) of people who, when reading or hearing the title "Dancing In The Dark" mentioned, immediately think of the Kim Wilde song (ua-cam.com/video/TqsiGa1dmc4/v-deo.html) rather than the Springsteen one. That's the one that would get me dancing when I was 15 in 1983 when it came out. One of the greatest covers I've heard in a long time is Kid Moxie's veraion of AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" which is featured on her brand new album. Unfortunately there's no proper video for it, just an audio only clip (ua-cam.com/video/zo6W8Lv-Jrs/v-deo.html), but she really turns the track into something completely different...
