In the world of winter camping and ice fishing, having the right shelter is paramount. If you've been following us, you know we have embarked on numerous winter adventures, with our wall tent. After Our last journey to Dawson city, we realized, that although a wall tent is amazing in a million ways, it is also very heavy to tow, heavy and lengthy to set up, and it requires a ton of firewood. This led us to search for another option that was lighter and easier to set up. We looked at Snowtrekker tents, which would be the top of the line best tent, but they come at a hefty price tag of over $3000 and that's too much for us. Our search continued, and led us to the Otter Vortex Monster Pro Lodge Ice Fishing Tent, a beacon of promise in the realm of winter camping gear. We just picked it up on our way back home from France and are unboxing it, opening it for the first time. We'll delve into every detail of the Otter Vortex Monster Pro Lodge.
The Otter Vortex Monster Pro Lodge is crafted from premium-grade materials, meticulously designed to withstand the rigors of winter camping and ice fishing. The tent features a heavy-duty quilted fabric, renowned for its durability and resistance to harsh weather elements. We are impressed by its attention to detail and the quality of materials used.

Unlike the round fishing tents, the Monster Pro Lodge offers ample room for cots and a cooking area, relaxation, storage, and activities. With dimensions of 132 square foot, there's plenty of space to comfortably accommodate our family and gear without feeling crowded. The high ceiling height allows for easy movement and eliminates the feeling of being confined. Additionally, the tent's design maximizes usable space, providing designated areas for sleeping, dining, and gear storage.
Despite its generous size, the Otter Vortex Monster Pro Lodge is surprisingly easy to set up and transport. The tent features a quick-deploy frame system, allowing for swift assembly even in cold and windy conditions. One of our favorite features on this tent is that all the windows are the same size, and removable. We will create a stove jack on one of the windows. It's nice to know that we can place the stove under any window opening with that, because they are all the same size.

I'm going on my third year with the vortex pro, which is basically half the size of your monster. I use propane to heat it so -30 is when I tap out. Otherwise it's been a fantastic winter tent. I have no doubt you will really enjoy yours. Just need to keep the humidity down, but I'm thinking your wood burning stove will take care of that. Looking forward to your artic adventures!!

Yep, it’s been a busy few months with unseasonably warm weather, so we have not been able to get out camping yet. That said, Philippe has been snowmobiling in Resolute bay every day, and Leandra has been busy training to run a marathon. Philippe returns on Monday, and we are planning a 2week+ snowmobile expedition to the high arctic that will see lots of snowmobile action 👍🏻
