  • Voltron at Europa Park officially opened to the public on the 26th of April, as Mack Rides' first installation of the Stryker Coaster. Could it be the perfect ride for Mack and Europa Park??
    I take a look back at how other manufacturers have unveiled new models, such as the S&S Axis and B&M Dive coasters to find the ace up Mack's sleeve.

    the first ride without checking the pov beforehand and not knowing about the turntable was an absolutely out of mind experience. i needed to sit down and drink some water for 10 minutes straight afterwards which never happened to me after a rollercoaster. its truly amazing

      Hahaha you know its a special rollercoaster when you need a breather afterwards! I had a similar experience after going on one of the S&S 4th dimension coasters - sometimes you just need to sit and process don't you!

    Just rode it 5 times. This coaster is nuts. Way more intense than i expected it to be.

      Wow, that's saying something, because it looks insane from the POVs!

    Mack are really smashing it out the park and taking the crown as the world's best ride manufacturer!

      I agree, they seem to be nailing the line between innovative and interesting but also reliable and comfortable. I think they're kind of replacing the part of the market that B&M held in the 00's when they were at the height of the invert/dive/flying innovation era, as being a safe bet for parks but with some genuinely interesting models. I just wish more parks would get them - extreme spinners specifically!

    • @hunterbidenslaptop5749
      @hunterbidenslaptop5749 12 днів тому +1

      I guess B&M just aren't willing to take those kind of innovative risks anymore.

      It's a shame isn't it, because pretty much every one of their new models from the time was game changing in some way

    Voltron Nevera is so sick!! I really wish the biggest success to Mack Rides this decade.

      Me too! They've got so many exciting coasters that have opened the past few years, and I can't wait to see more start popping up

    Your points also explain how Intamin sells new models. They use smaller parks due to them having less to lose from a new attraction. Especially if intamin makes those rides cheaper for the park.
    I hope I got my point across because I’m not very good at doing that 😅. Also great video 👍

    • @coaster_shark
      @coaster_shark  14 днів тому +1

      No, I get you! I reckon smaller parks will be happier to take a risk as well because if it puts them on the map, then it's a massive win. And like you say, they're playing with smaller budgets, so they have less to lose anyway. I guess the only issue for Intamin then is still having to prove that a concept can be scaled up to suit a big park, but it's better than nothing!

    Wait what? There's a specific reason Oblivion isnt 90°?!
    I need an in-depth explanation lol cause it it cant come off the rails anyways, I need to understand what cushioned wheels have to do to prevent an extra 4° of angle 😅

    • @coaster_shark
      @coaster_shark  7 днів тому

      I was thinking of making a video about this because I find it quite interesting, but the short version (to my understanding) is that without springs, and at exactly 90°, you can't guarantee that the top wheels will be in contact with the track because there'll always be some tolerance there. This means that as the ride starts to level out, and as the wheels come back into contact with the rails, they will apply a sudden force, which creates roughness and increases wear and tear. With sprung wheels, the mechanism works to always keep the top wheels in contact with the rails so you get a gradual increase of force rather than a sudden step change, and having a near-vertical drop instead also means that there will always be contact between the wheels and rails, hence making the ride smoother and extending the working life. Hope that helps explain it!

    from the looks of it voltron is very good, HOWEVER, there have been many reports of some trains being extremely rough. along with that im not a huge fan of the lack of themeing when you get to the turn table. just seems to kill tha pace with no real story adition. im not saying it aint amazing, just saying it aint perfect. btw you earned yourself a new subscriber, ive been loving your content and i only found you today. :)

    I think American parks are sleeping on Mack Rides at their own peril as they try so hard to make S&S and Premier Rides work because the two offer less expensive rides. Mack has been on a serious roll since they debuted the extreme spinner and now this.

    • @coaster_shark
      @coaster_shark  12 днів тому

      There's truth in 'you get what you pay for' isn't there! I am genuinely shocked that there aren't more extreme spinners around though, I thought parks would be queuing up to get one considering how well received the two existing ones have been.

    Voltron is a mediocre Mega-lite. It looks like Maverick and rides like a...Mack.

      @@coaster_sharkTo me the hype was too much and therefore I was a bit let down by Voltron. I expected it to be Europe's best but it barely makes my top 10, which is still good of course but like I said, I expected it to be #1. Guess nothing will beat the Ride to Happiness for me.

    • @coaster_shark
      @coaster_shark  12 днів тому +1

      @joost6994 I think its always a risk when you go on a coaster with high expectations, as its a lot more likely to fall short and end up disappointing you. I guess with the amount of content online these days, its getting harder and harder to go on something new with no expectations. Ride to Happiness is a great #1 though - I think it will take something really special to beat it!
