With four doors and four seats #MADCAB is a bit of a departure for Mad Mike who is known for building single purpose drift thoroughbreds. True to its name, the MADCAB actually takes people for rides too!
Saw MM yesterday at my work place, and he's easy to chat to. I HAD TO mention the Cleetus Crown Vic, and the New RTR Mach-E Mustang, as a loyal FORD fanboy though !!
Quad rotor would have fitted in there nicely too:) We think Mike's decision to go with a 13B was strictly for practical reasons - reliability, ease of maintenance etc. That car does lots and lots of laps everywhere it goes.
The Luce, or 929, is so underrated as a JDM import. They came with the 12A and 13B engines. I had a 82 Luce and it was damn fun. Same underpinnings as the RX7!
The HB Luce (82-86) had 12A-SPI / 12A-T / 13B-RESI options The HC Luce (86-91) had 13B-TII only Trivia 4U.......... The HB-series (Cosmo / Luce) was the only car in the WORLD to have all 3-engine varieties as an option... Otto cycle engine Diesel cycle engine Wankel rotary engine
Luce lovin................. The HC3S is the most underrated Rotary of the 80's - 90's Have personally owned one & loved it's stealth styling. Its great to see the HC3S Luce getting some attention Gaijin always get the name wrong too. Here in the video Mike & narrator call it "Loose", others call it "Lucy" but the name is from the Italian word for light........... So the actual pronunciation is "Loo-Chey" & my old Mazda Japan friends confirmed this. Luce is pronounced "Loo-Chey"
I'm a Kiwi and was only aware of Mad Mike due to the Lambo which was all over the news here a few months back - but drifting doesn't interest me in the slightest and I'm no fan of rotaries, probably because I'm a grumpy old man. Still love the engineering on display here though, super impressive and even better that they can get this stuff done out here in the middle of the Pacific. It'd be awesome if he used the MadCab for Ubering - it's got a plate so I presume it is road legal?
Because only Australia called it the 929 when it was locally delivered. The Japanese import ones like this one imported to nz, were, and always will be a luce
This car is not an export model HC-929 with V6 auto This is the JDM version which came "factory" with a 13B-T option, known as a HC3S In Oz + NZ, there was a 3lt V6 only & our version was a mid-range spec compared to the JDM which had the full lux "Royal Classic" option In Japan.... 2.0lt 4cyl 2.0lt V6 / 2.0lt V6-T 3.0lt V6 13B-T

that's just what europe does: if they can't compete against it, they kick it out of the competition by changing the regulations to favor european cars.
It's not a Europe thing more like top level motorsport thing, there are plenty of examples where one type of a vehicle or engine was deemed "illegal" because it was too far ahead of the competition.
@@haltech The JAGS were quicker that year, but the regs said you could only give your car so much alcohol, and those V12's were even more alcoholic than a 4 rotor...true story !!

I love all the small authentic JDM touches and attention to detail.

The only thing they share with an rx7 Is the engine. The underpinnings are not the same

yes they are. i bet you only heard of Takata because of the airbag fiasco then?
His wheel rack/tire rack's wheels is cooler than most cars today.

Yes you could get a C.O.F. for small PSV via VTNZ. 4 doors, five seats & a cargo net.🏁🚕💨tyres would cost more than ya petrol, though.
Hampton Downs to Queen Street in no time!
can someone tell me what was sitting on the plug wire in that engine shot at 5:27

Would love to see someone turn an a31 cefiro into something similar like that doing pandems with the madcab
That has been done many many times before.
All talking and no drifting??? WTF?
it's basically a 929 in Australia.
929 is exactly the same car
Never heard of this for serious

It's a shame you didn't mention the car is a Mazda 929 and is actually a locally delivered car to the Australian market
but maybe not so in NZ? they dont get (mostly) the same stuff as us
Correct (i think) we get the real ones. Am also sure I've seen JDM & Aussie-new ones here in Aotearoa. Just unsure about the NZ new 929s...

Yes, quite a few actually.

No
It's neither a Toyota nor a Cressida. It's a Mazda. Badged as either Luce or 929 depending on the market it was sold in.
