I was getting so frustrated trying to figure out how to resize a black bar I needed to cover a part of a video I'm working on for my channel (forgot to tell XSplit to NOT capture the camera as well as my desktop, so it slapped a gray bar with the camera coding at the bottom of it in the recording. DERP.). But this will now allow me to add in some hard written notes on the screen overlay, which fits my art channel better than the simple text overlay that Shotcut offers.

but how did you make the transparent image? why did not the what? balloon show up as a square picture covering part of the screen--how did it only show the balloon?

Can you adjust the duration of the image other than dragging the image along ? I made a really long video and just wanted the image on screen but it took me forever to drag the image to fit the length of the video. I tried to find somewhere to type in the minutes/seconds that I wanted the image to show but couldn`t find anywhere to do that.
When you import the picture, place it in the playlist first. Then open the properties panel. You can adjust the time there. For some reason, it doesn't seem to work once it's in the timeline.
I have a question - you said that "If we don't put the main video on the bottom of the timeline, we won't see anything". Can somebody explain this? Is there any rule of placing I don't know?
Valuable Tutorial, Thanks! But how do we do an INTERIM save after each correct edit? Not knowing this, I had to edit my video 5 times, starting at the beginning, until I got the whole thing correct in one try. That included about 10 very finicky edits in dialog.
Thanks Lorie! I'm not sure I understand your question - you can just press the Save button in the top tool bar or menu to save your project. Is that what you are asking? You can also Undo your last edits if you haven't saved.
It saves in .mlt format, which is the project. After you are all done, you need to click "Export" in order to save it as an mp4. You can also check my tutorial ua-cam.com/video/D2HNq7vJUm8/v-deo.html FROM about minute 7:15, except now the button is "Export", not Encode (this was an old version) and you don't really need to change the resolution.
I have been trying to upload different pictures after I have edited cut and done different things with the video but it does not allow me to insert more pictures. Do I have to insert the images before doing anything to the video becuase after that I can't. Is there a way to do it?
Suppose there are two rectangular boxes at the side of my video. I want to fill these rectangular boxes with two images. I tried doing this with the "Size and position" option available for images. But, It is impossible to manipulate the height or width without changing the other one. I am unable to fill the image into the rectangular boxes properly. It is important that I fill the rectangular boxes properly so that I can make the video pleasant. How can I achieve this? This particular situation was not addressed in your video.
When I insert a jpg just like you did in the video it just shows as a blank white space. Also the time is is displayed is .01 second. I found how to up its display time, reposition and everything and it still won't show the image. any suggestions, thanks?
GameXFuture select the jpg you want in your Playlist, now click properties under the playlist box. It should pull up the jpg properties and one of those is duration. Increase it and press enter. Hope that helps.
I can't size my pictures, I have the size and position setting on but when I try to size the frame by dragging it doesn't move at all, only the frame and not the actual picture

I clicked save, but did not add .MP4, so it saved to my desktop in a format I could not open. Shall I just type in that .MP4 ?

Sorry I only saw this now so you probably figured it out by now. You can just select the clip and apply a Fade-in filter or a Fade-out filter.

you could perhaps drag in the image multiple times, shrink it to 1 second, and use size and position to move each individual picture on their heads!

How did you make the video longer??
GameXFuture select the jpg you want in your Playlist, now click properties under the playlist box. It should pull up the jpg properties and one of those is duration. Increase it and press enter. Hope that helps.
Try a different file type (png). Also try opening with "Open file" instead of dragging it in there.

Sorry to hear that, no idea what the problem is. Perhaps it's there but you don's see it? Have you tried zooming the timeline in or out?
