I like everything about this. The only thing I would have done differently is to conduct a prescribed burn through those 2 areas and then do the TSI cut and the bedding cut. BTW - how may total acres is the property? I ask, because I'm trying to figure out if you do a percentage of the entire property as a TSI vs. bedding cut?
Want to try this , No hing cuts maybe hack and squirt , But was going to clean up the mess into philes . As I don't want deer bedding in it at all if I can help it . Its big wood with very little food /cover Will it work ?
You can certainly try it, there really wont be a need to clean anything up if you do hack and squirt. The trees will slowly die and remain standing for a few years. But they won't leaf out, and will start loosing branches and that will allow more sunlight to reach the forest floor.
Do you differentiate your bedding size and location between does and bucks, or do you create enough continuous bedding cover to attract and hold both? Also, where in relation to your food plots do you create both? Thanks.
The size and proximity to food sources is very site specific. On this particular project we were converting 15-20% of the total timbered acres with a combination of bedding cuts and TSI. This bedding cut was roughly 300 yards from a food plot and the TSI cut was in between the bedding cut and the food plot. The cuts ranged from 1/4-1/2 acre, roughly. We don't necessarily create the bedding cuts for bucks or does or both, just deer in general. 15-20% managed acres were not continuous stretches of timber, they were strategically placed throughout the property (7 units) based on prevailing winds, topography, best entry/exit. Following up the cuts with fire is crucial in the management of the converted acres. Hope this helps!
@@Whitetail_Properties Thanks for your prompt reply. I recently inherited 120 acres of mature timber (65% red oak, 9% white oaks) in NW Wisconsin that I’m planning to develop for deer hunting. The first part of the plan is to select cut to 30% open canopy for understory development and clear cut for food plots around the periphery in order to create a sanctuary in the middle of the property; I’ll connect the plots with cut corridors to channel the deer from one plot to another with stands on those channels. Since I’ve always found does bedding very close to food, my intent is to hinge cut within 50 yards of the plots for does where bucks will bed behind them in the property’s middle section. That’s my plan and why I asked. Thanks for responding.
Love you content, guys! You are gifted at teaching and explaining how to do specific things. Keep the content coming!
Thanks for watching! We have all kinds of content coming, stay tuned!

We burn after! The property was 150 acres. The percentage of bedding really depends on access, quality cover on or adjacent to property to name a few.

Nice
About how big are your bedding cuts?
We usually try for 0.5 to 3 acres
