Thanks to whoever found and published this. Brant was my college roommate and best friend for many important years and I was at this party and on this video. I've never seen it before but it means a lot that it exists.
Imagine all the people that didn't want to be on camera or thought it was stupid for Nelson to film. My point is, I don't think even Nelson realized how awesome it is that he filmed all this.
@Konga 5000 I think the couple were swingers and both bi. I also think that they got married so that she could have his wealth legally and easily. He died very near the time of Nelsons death. I think he knew he was sick. That's also why he retired.
@@Bill-cv1xu I'm the guy in the white sweater at approx 11:08 into the film . I knew Brant and Rhonda of course but had also met Sylvia and Brant and I went to college with Randy Jones who I had forgotten was also there that day . Seeing Sylvia makes me chuckle. I still remember the video Nelson made at her Woodstock cottage. Her bipolar, manic, explosive behaviour was off the charts. 😂
People were much more comfortable with each other back then, then they're now a days, I wish I was a young adult in 1985 best time ever to experience the fashion and more free spirited people and of course the amazing music
Juan Gomez actually, most weren't! Back then, ppl just kept their feelings in for the sake of looking appropriate. At a party like that, with the groom's relatives assuming he's Str8(as I've read from another commenter), I can clearly notice the "oil & water" vibe when the transvestites meet with the relatives boarding. Growing up ethnic, and knowing I was a lesbian as a child in the 80's, I remember these things all too well. Trust me, times are far better today!
I was born in 1990 and I came out as gay at age 18 in 2008 and now we've got full rights on our side which did not exist back then so I'm blessed and with that being said the fashion was way more expressive/hair and the music in the 1980's so I'd at least take that into the present if I could 😁 however I am grateful most of the 80's fashion has made a come back believe it or not with a modified modern touch still basically the same, so has the music but at a much slower pace 😎😆
The 80s were so much happier and peaceful aside from AIDS unfortunately but it was as you say much more warm and comfortable. Lots of fun. Another dimension really!

Loving this video all these young gays living their lives even though it was the 80's. People were not very open to the gay culture. Glad to see this group was.
They were also a very artistic crowd of people. Sylvia Miles, Nelson himself, Rhonda was a muscician and she and Brant played together in a little hip band. Brant also worked for Rolling Stone magazine back when it was extremely popular and booming. There were all types of creative, artsy people on that yacht. 1985 in New York city was an amazing time and place to be. It was rockin the old New York before it became a crappy corporate gentrified Disneyland.
What an eclectic group. That seems to sum up 80s New York. Conservative types mixing with the alternative types. The conservatives trying to loosen up and mix with the artistically relevant people while the fringes of society who were previously anti establishment embraced mixing with the wealthier conservative types. It was an interesting time of different factions of society mixing together
I suspect the drugs had a lot to do with it lol... but I agree. I feel like the late '60s had a bit of a similar dynamic, too- the straight-laced mixing it up with the rebels. It went away in the comparatively dull '70s but made a big comeback in the '80s. Much more interesting times.
