I've recently started making mead myself and brew in a 1-gallon glass carboy. It's a fun hobby, but just a piece of advice from my experience so far:
1.) If you just warm your water on medium heat (do not boil), you can mix your honey into the water and mix it into an aqueous solution called a "must". This would help with transporting honey to the carboy and might help with your honey retention rate.
2.) When I move the contents of the pan to the carboy, I usually use a glass measuring cup that I dip into the pan (in the sink to help prevent mess) and then pour the cup into the carboy utilizing a funnel, which helps prevent spillage.
Hope this helps you down the line man, hope these meads come out as good as they look.
Thanks for dropping the comment and for the tips! Definitely will help me out I'm sure. I've been making mead for years and I have a set way since I usually make 6 gallons at a time usually so switching to the smaller batches has been different for sure.
I have one word for you, just one word: funnel.
A big funnel helps a lot for transferring water and ingredients into the carboy. Not so good for honey. It is one more thing to sanitize, but honestly worth it.
Thanks for the comment! Right if I had one that would hold up to the Temps I would use it for sure. Ive made mead for years usually don't make mead this way I'm only following the book instructions this time lol. I do sanitize I just didn't show it this is my 3rd mead making series I've done I didn't wanna keep showing the same stuff.
