Well, I can see that the results might be very controversial. For some reason it worked perfectly by us and literally, as I said in the video, INCREASED the temperature for few degrees. It might be that our home has better insulation than yours, like double glass packages and thick walls, it can also be different size of the room or the different climate. That this heater didn't work at your given place, doesn't mean that it do not work at somebody's else.

Thank you very much for this. Here in the US our energy prices are not as high, but they are almost double what they were 2 years ago. We're having an Arctic blast right now, so it's a little harder to stay warm.
Thank you for demonstrating the candle/pot heater. I also saw it on you tube and wondered if it worked. I appreciate that you gave us an honest opinion. I love your choice of music. It is so soothing to my soul. Looking forward to seeing your Christmas video. 💕
Thanks for your candle powered heater design. Each candle gives about 40W and as you say raises the temperature 2 or 3 degrees in a small room we have often used a plate of these candles on winter holidays in Spain on cold evenings. Your design provides a safe radiator with the flames shielded. For safety neverr have large groups of these candles together as their vapours can unite to one big flame up to the ceiling!
Thanks for your experiment, my central heating system has broken down, I tried it too., your conclusion was same as mine, claypot can add some heat to an alternative heater on at the same time, it can look cosy too but, not as efficient as some people are claiming.
This is better than just open candles because the inner pot changes the energy lost as light into infra-red/thermal energy. The larger pot causes a chimney effect that blows the hot air out the hole and round the room.
Thank you for this Jolita! I remember seeing about this on UA-cam some years ago but then forgot all about it so your video is a timely reminder! And if it has cat approval then it must be good! I do hope your sore throat clears up quickly, and thank you for making a video despite being under the weather!
Thanks for the realistic evaluation of the clay pot heater. Where I live, the old buildings such as mine were built without insulation. So while it never snows here, it also rarely gets warm, except for a total of perhaps five days per year. My energy bills have doubled in the past year, but not due to increased usage. I honestly don't think that this will contribute much to the temperature, plus I would not encourage people here to do this because almost all the houses and buildings are wood. Greeting from San Francisco.
Before I finished reading your comment, you mentioned how it never snows, rarely gets warm except for 5 days out of the year where you are and I thought to myself, that sounds just like here where I am,.... in SF. Lol
I live in North East Florida, depending on the weather I use one to 3 of these "heaters" I also have several made from soup cans with a small pot on top that I burn votive candles in
This is a great idea. I'm building a house in Saskatchewan and I thought I was going to have to install a furnace and pay for fuel all winter. Now I will tell my contractor to skip that and I'll save thousands! Imagine replacing an expensive furnace with just a flower pot and a few candles! Why didn't someone think of this before?
Firstly, congratulations on your new house! And thank you for informing me what you are going to tell your contractor, even though you really shouldn’t have to. 😉
I have been experimenting also with the candles (without any pot). And my conclusion is that when there are just 3-4 candles it is barely noticable change. But when you burn let's say 10 candles it starts to have some noticeable results. But to have the same power as an average radiator you need cca 30 candles.
We really must be very creative this winter, and so we shall! I have rediscovered an old time friend: the hotwater bottle, very cosy in the evening under a beautifull fleece, the dog loves it too and…..a dog or cat also give a lot of warmth 😂 keep it save and warm, Lieve from 🇧🇪

I’m thinking in the amount of time it takes those little candles to generate enough heat to provide the second larger pot the “thermal” effect two smaller desperate pots systems instead will be kicking it. Your video does provide food for thought but not what is going to be needed this winter to keep me from freezing to death when the power companies shut down.
Well done and realistic about expectations. Hopefully Europe will survive the winter. Thank you for making the video, it looks like an easy thing to do. Warm blankets, extra sweaters and socks and maybe the clay pot will be just enough to get you through. ❤

Just a thought but in the video I watched a few years back, the upside down terracotta pot sat on a dinner plate with 3 piles of coins with 3 coins in each to elevate and support the pot. The tea light candle also, sat in the centre of the plate, under the pot. Another, 3 piles with 3 coins in each sat on top of the upside down pot. This was to support and elevate the upside down saucer/bread plate on top of the pot to encourage the dispersion of heat around the room. I have not tried this method or any other so could not say if it is a safe and effective one or not. I think the words “Cornish Heater” were in the title of the video. Stay safe & be well, all
Hi Melonie, thanks! I was using the bricks (which is much more safe and sturdy than the coins) for elevate the terracotta pots, because the flame needs an oxygen for keep on burning. And with all the precautions a.k.a. granite plate underneath and not leaving unattended, must be all good and safe. You yoo, take care!
I have a friend who has been using this method since last year. She told me it makes a big difference, especially in her living room. I purchased the tea lights, but not the pots. I am so afraid of fire! I do have a tile table and 1” thick piece of marble I could use as a base, with a metal tray on top. I think that might be safe. But the room is open and I hear these work best in small rooms. What has your experience been? Love from USA!
Hi @miask, if you follow the precautions, it is safe to use the heater like this. No wobbly surface and fire resistant base sill make it. Our living room is 35 m2, it's about 376 sq ft, I have no clue whether is considered big or small for USA standards, but my pot is enough to rise the temperature for this size of room. However it's too small alone to heat when outside temperatures significantly drop. But as I said, it really adds more comfort. Greetings to you too!!
If you calculate the cost of candles compared to other heating fuels per heat output then you will see that , cheap candles are made from oil ( parrafin wax ) and there is no oil derived product that is magically cheaper.
May I ask where you brought the stone plate? Cause all the stone plates I find online are quite expensive or too small (i think). Thank you for this video!

Watch out, think for a second where the candles combustion waste are gonna deposit? Yeah, on the pots. That's where the evaporated wax will be transferred to. So, you're turning the pots into flammable pots. Eventually, if you don't clean them regularly, they will set on fire. Just waiting for the right temperature to burn. It is not easy to remove wax or grease from these pots.

Actually I didn’t. Paraffin evaporates and leaves no residue, that way it doesn’t increase the risk of potential fire in anyone’s house. www.tasteofhome.com/article/where-does-candle-wax-go/
@@JolitaBartkus That answers the cost of candles. I assume your suggesting it's providing heat nit just light? Is there no other source of heat? And how hot is the room compared to outside? Having not been heated by any other heat source?
@@daveofyorkshire301 hi Dave, let’s not argue, ok? I am sure, you are a fair person out of internet and I am also quite ok. I am going out for the Christmas concert now, so I don’t want to write something mansplaining or in my case, womansplaining, haha! I wish you happy holidays and hope, I didn’t upset you. 🎄
The total heat energy of the "heater" is no greater than the output of the candle flame itself, the terra cotta pots only distribute the heat in a thermal mass, its a heat sink. By using a larger candle, you raise the output of the heater, and this will only be by the amount of the candle's total output. Many people use vegetable oil candles to sustain longer burn times, and increase the heat energy of the burn. They are easy to make. By covering the hole in the top, you are trapping the heat within the first pot, and stopping the flow of rising heat. If you stack smaller pots atop the first, you gain output area. I tried this type of heater and found I could only heat a space about the size under my desk, so, it is great of you want to keep your feet warm under your desk as you browse the internet on cold mornings.
Does air flow matter? I would assume so, but I’m mainly talking about carbon monoxide.. not sure that tea lights on their own produce much and I’d also assume that not much would produce when multiples are used unless the space is incredibly small. But I dunno.. is anyone with knowledge on this have a way to answer with facts? I think it’s important to have these methods to help just in case something happens where we need them but also think we need to remember safety and assure that ourselves and family’s aren’t going to get sick or worse because we maybe should’ve thought about ventilation. Only looking for knowledge and facts to better myself and what to do, I promise I’m not coming at anyone because I actually know this stuff. Just wanna be sure I’m doing it the right way for my fam and that others are too. ✌️💜😊🕯️
He reminds me of my cat who unfortunately passed away a year ago about this time . He was 16 years old . I liked this video and subscribed . Interested this idea as an emergency back up in case the electricity goes out and the furnace won't work. Writing from the US near Chicago where the temperature has been as low as -23 C and wind chill about twice as low. Gas furnace could barely keep up. Now that the temp has warmed up to only -10 C and no wind the house is more comfortable. Happy holidays . Stay warm
After Daniel Tartaglia , it's need 10 or more flames to heat a room that have a good insulation . Another, it's need to have ventilation at this system with flames to make hot air to flow quick . Another, it's good to have a radiation system at your stove . If it's made from metalic boxes that's are for preserve food , don't heat to much to become red because it will be destroyed more quickly . Use more systems of heat for indoor that will reduce smoke : methanol, ethanol, comestibil extra virgin olive oil or raps oil , use a chimney to improve burn and reduce smoke . You are surrounded by free materials that are good and free for heat and cook and have light ,in your house : cotton clothes, paper , cartoons, used oil ,and also at garbage containers and not only, you find wood and many others materials . There are rocket stoves that can be make to give more time heat if you use also sand battery inside .
This will not give off any more heat than four candles can alone. The first law of thermodynamics says you can not create more energy than the amount supplied.
Unfortunately this is very dangerous! The candles can very easily overheat and can cause the whole surface area of the molten wax to catch fire (very similar to a grease fire in the frying pan). If this happens, the cosy burning candle will suddenly start to burn furiously. Candles should never be lit close together (they heat each other) You mention this in the video but these candles are still too close to each other. Candles should never be covered by anything (not even non flamable items like a terracotta pot). Never restrict the airflow around a candle. The air has to flow freely into the candle and the heat and exhausts has to flow freely up from the candle. If you break any of these rules you risk overheating the wax and and in worst case a serious fire. If you are unlucky enough to experience overheated wax caught on fire: NEVER TRY TO PUT OUT THE FIRE BY BLOWING ON IT (it may start to burn even more intense). NEVER TRY TO PUT THE FIRE OUT WITH WATER (it WILL cause an a huge fire ball (like water on burning grease)). The best way to put out such i fire is to cover it completely with a cooking pot lid or similar (the same way you put out a grease fire in the frying pan).
@mrscandalpolisen, thank you for your insights and concerns! However, 1. Those are not a wax candles and leave no residue on the pots as it simply evaporates as burning turns the wax into invisible carbon and water vapor. Here is the link which explains where the wax goes when burning: www.candlescience.com/where-does-the-wax-go-when-a-candle-burns/ 2. You must have heard about the covered candle holders, right? Merry Christmas and stay safe!
What's tragic is that in 2024 anyone should need to resort to this due to unrealistic gas and electric prices and the costs of insulating houses pricing families out. All the while big gas and energy companies preaching about how to use blankets and layer to keep warm. It's abysmal and I hope the top racketeers - sorry...'CEOs' - all lose their jobs, end up watching their families suffer in the cold.
A coule of questions : Does burning the candles produces smoke AND most dangerous gases? Anyway they get out of the house? If not threat to life? To save more money someone would burn very many candles in every room in the house! So heavy threat? Could it kill the occupants? Any way to let the smoke and dangerous gases out but preserve/keep the heat in? If there is show, disclose it. If not are you not causing threat and danger to the L I V E S ? Please do not do this.
😀 I understand your concerns, so many questions… However the tea candles doesn’t change their behavior and the chemistry just being under the pot, sorry. 😀 You’re mistaken them for the firewood which didn’t act in this video 😀😀but yes, don’t burn the firewood indoors without good ventilation.
I had to stop watching the video after you said, "For safety reasons, separate the candles from each other" that is possibly the dumbest fking thing ive heard... WOULNT WANT THE CLAY POT OR CONCRETE BLOCKS TO MELT. 🤦♂️
@paulleonard7038 That's OK not to watch everything. That's OK to have an option write your opinion and express it the comment. That's not OK to swear while you doing it. However, if you would think 2 cm (or 0,787 of inches, depending on your reality) further you would let the pots and concrete behind and concentrate on the candles only. In my young years I had a stupidity to lit a bundle of tiny candles all at once. They looked nice and cosy until begun to melt into one and all their flames united. It caught up quite large flame and there were not the few tiny burning candles anymore, there was a one thick candle with several burners and a huge flame, which didn't look cosy anymore and I was lucky seeing it happening and could prevent a possible fire. I am pretty sure that wouldn't happen with the tea lights, but I am just pretty sure, so would risk checking it out or encouraging someone else to do that in their homes.

May someone put a stove fan on a clay pot heaters.Or a brick heater some don't believe that them clay pot heaters makes the room warmer. But what if you put a stove fan on top of a clay pot heaters, will that make the room warmer. Will you do two test.1 with the stove fan and the other text without the stove fan(s)
Come on people! Smarten up.
Ok sorry
think you may have to plug up the hole.
No Martin, you need the oxigen for keep the flame burning!
You forgot to mention about the flash point of molten wax, this could cause a fireball and potentially cause a fire in your house. SAFETY FIRST.
Actually I didn’t. Paraffin evaporates and leaves no residue, that way it doesn’t increase the risk of potential fire in anyone’s house.

❤❤❤❤
4 candles throw out about 400w he clay pots juts radiate it at a l9wer level
For a small greenhouse at night, good 👍,but for your home, bad👎,,,unless you live in a small(well insulated) tent!😂
Have you ever heard of a "Crisco Candle"? Seriously Crisco frying grease!
Did someone actually tried this? Do let me know 😊
You get no more heat out than you put in. About 80w per candle. Ineffectual for a room.
How much does it cost for candles?
8 hours burning candle costs €0,09. 4 such candles are €0,36 which makes €11,16 in 31 days. You're welcome!
@@JolitaBartkus That answers the cost of candles. I assume your suggesting it's providing heat nit just light?
Is there no other source of heat? And how hot is the room compared to outside? Having not been heated by any other heat source?
@@daveofyorkshire301 if you watched this video to the end, you might have answers to your questions. 😉
@@JolitaBartkus I might? Well I'm not working on that premise...
Have you ever had a candle catch fire?
No. Should I?
Thanks for watching!
Has anyone ever heard of the law of conservation of energy?
This is a dumb question...no harmful fumes right??
John, it's not a dumb question. It hasn't the same fumes as the wood. Those are the candles and are safe to burn indoors.
Thank you, kindly!
good looking cat
Fire brigades say these heaters are very dangerous
@Marketingmagician, happy and safe New year to you and your fire brigade!
This will not give off any more heat than four candles can alone. The first law of thermodynamics says you can not create more energy than the amount supplied.
NO!
Unfortunately this is very dangerous!
The candles can very easily overheat and can cause the whole surface area of the molten wax to catch fire (very similar to a grease fire in the frying pan).
If this happens, the cosy burning candle will suddenly start to burn furiously.
Candles should never be lit close together (they heat each other)
You mention this in the video but these candles are still too close to each other.
If you are unlucky enough to experience overheated wax caught on fire:
NEVER TRY TO PUT OUT THE FIRE BY BLOWING ON IT (it may start to burn even more intense).
Here is the link which explains where the wax goes when burning: www.candlescience.com/where-does-the-wax-go-when-a-candle-burns/

No it doesn't work ive two 8×6 glasshouses one with and one without both the same temperatures the last 3 night's
If not are you not causing threat and danger to the
L I V E S ? Please do not do this.
😀 I understand your concerns, so many questions…
However the tea candles doesn’t change their behavior and the chemistry just being under the pot, sorry. 😀
You’re mistaken them for the firewood which didn’t act in this video 😀😀but yes, don’t burn the firewood indoors without good ventilation.
what was this about? i felt asleep
It’s about commenting on YT while still asleep. 😉
What did it felt like?
Very dangerous system
Good God Paul, get a hold of yourself!
