Macron and Steinmeier in Oradour-sur-Glane

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Oradour-sur-Glane massacre, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, are visiting the site and memorial near Limoges, France. The video begins with the welcome at Limoges airport with a guard of honor from the French armed forces. It then goes to Oradour-sur-Glanes, where the Federal President is received by Emmanuel Macron. After passing through a guard of honor from the Republican Guard, the delegations are greeted and then walked through the museum. This is followed by a tour of the site, which has been preserved as a museum and memorial. Two special stops are 1) the church in which the women, children and senior citizens of Oradour were murdered on June 10, 1944, and 2) the meeting with granddaughters of perpetrators and victims. This is a historic act of reconciliation, in which Macron says to the German granddaughter: "It's not your fault." Afterwards, there is a memorial service with over 1,000 people present, including many veterans. Frank-Walter Steinmeier speaks in French and lays a wreath together with Emmanuel Macron. Afterwards, there are meetings at the town hall of Oradour-sur-Glane. At Limoges airport, there are final military honors with national anthems and a parade of honor. Es ist so erschütternd, die Bilder heute zu sehen, ich musste weinen.
Ich habe während meiner Schulzeit in den 60er Jahren von oradour-sur-glane gehört. Wir hatten eine Lehrerin, die selbst Kontakt zur résistance hatte.
Es ist so wichtig, darüber zu berichten. Danke dafür.
