That's an impressive list of LD games. There was a good number of titles I never even heard about before. Nice video!

I don't know how I didn't see this when you first posted it, I guess my notifications went screwy, but this is right up my street as I'm an avid Laser Disc collector. There's quite a few I didn't know about here too, so I'll add them to my list!

There's something I find inexplicably eerie about many of these laser games.

Some big memories in here - Dragon's Lair, Space Ace and Time Traveller as well as Cobra Command and Road Avenger on Mega CD.

I always find some amusement from the laserdisc games. Some are rather fun, while others are good attempts at trying to find something fun.
I recognized immediately Bega's Battle, not from ever knowing the game existed, but from the clips and artwork from the movie Harmageddon that were used. Cliff Hanger is the same way, but I was aware of its presence before, using scenes from two Lupin the 3rd movies, mostly the Castle of Cagliostro.
I still go back every so often to play either of the Dragon's Lair games.
Hologram Time Traveler is such a strange curiosity. I never could get far, and the death animation is extremely silly, though I don't think that was the intention.

Nice list, fella! A few of the games you listed I didn't even know existed. Some of these i played in the arcade back in the early to mid 80's (Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, Esh's Aurunmilla, Super Don Quix-Ote, Time Gal). Many of em got home ports, i mean ports on actual consoles, not emulation.

Who ever is playing Atari's firefox in the example shown is using a digital joystick instead of analog flight yoke controls. there are basicly two classes of laser disk games , those that just use images directly off the disk,, and those that use game hardware generated graphics superimposed over the laser disk image background. Dragons lair verses probbly the most advanced Firefox ,, with some mixing both..

Awsome, 80s rock. Reminds me of the Mega cd with fancy fmv and standard mega drive graphics.

It's surprising to me that Cliff Hanger says Stern Electronics in your video... the one we had in our arcade back in the day said "TMS Entertainment"... and I always thought it was probably because it used a TMS9918 or TMS9929 video chip or some variant of that for the overlay graphics... at least it looked like it.

TMS Entertainment was a Japanese animation studio who were prolific in the '80s and '90s. Not only did they produce a bunch of Japanese anime, but also did animation work for a bunch of American cartoons. TMS were behind the original Lupin III anime footage used in the game, including Castle of Cagliostro under the direction of Hayao Miyazaki.

My memories clearly don't match reality. Fire Fox and MACH 3 both looked way better in my memory than what was shown here.

    One more game you missed...
Freedom fighter based on the footage of Galaxy Express 999.

I got to play FF at Springfield Mall in VA back in 87. I can confirm it exists... well, existed.

I will always believe that PlayStation got their concept from the laserdisc games era and turned it into an empire in the '90s. They have the '80s to thank for that! IJS!

I don't know which was worse - The way most of these titles have aged badly (the exception being the Don Bluth animations), or how many adverts riddled your video...

    • @TheLairdsLair
      @TheLairdsLair  2 роки тому +3

I'm really sorry about the adverts, UA-cam has auto-placed 6 advert breaks in this video (including one about a minute in!), which is just ridiculous. I just went into the editor and fixed that. I usually check these things, because UA-cam has a terrible habit of doing this, but on this occasion I must have forgotten.
But yeah, a lot of these have aged badly!
