This is by far the best analysis I have seen. The funny thing is that ignoring all the numbers, just going by what I watch night in and night out, at the 20 minute mark you glossed over what his biggest issue is. And I am sure its impossible to quantify, but where he really is just a complete failure is that when the puck is in the zone, for a veteran, he makes the worst decisions I have ever seen of a Rangers defenseman. He always makes atrocious decisions on when to press, constantly taking himself out of a sound defensive position always leading to a breakdown of the team defense, and ultimately 1 or 2 guys open near the goal leading to easy opportunities and goals. Its why for years people kept blaming his linemates, thinking that they were seemingly out of position, but the reason they were out of position is because they were covering the boneheaded decisions made by Trouba leaving his post to aggressively attack someone puling him away from the net and a few strides behind the play. Time and time again he is on the ice and chasing the puck because he simply makes the wrong decision again and again and again. I mean really, to be in the league this long, to be one of the highest paid defenseman in the league, to have little to no offense to speak of and worst of all, to just have such poor on ice IQ and positioning, its just indefensible for a 2nd or 3rd year players let alone someone with his experience. Even if you buy him out and have a 4 mil dead cap, its will be hard to find a replacement for that extra 4 mil that would be worse than him. Please, get him off this team. You cannot win with players that consistently cause the team defense to breakdown because he doesn't understand his position and his role. They will never win as long as they trot him out there.

Your the best "Ranger podcaster" out there...just my 2 cents but i like to keep Trouba on the team, ( i realize his 8M) his toughness is what all Rangers team ALWAYS seems to lack & losing him will just make all the other teams roll over them with impunity. I find Miller hurts the team just as much with his lack of using his talent which he seems shy to use (speed / toughness)

Can't wait for your first game at Little Caesar's, TROUBA. If you're still in the NHL, that is.

In Trouba's defense, the Rangers gave him the terms and the pay. Their mismanagement isnt his problem. On the flip side he has to see they cant continue to pay that amount for the way he has been playing and keep, or create a cup contending team. Rangers have to do whats in the best interest of the team, but the players have to worry about their short career and have to make all they can before their forced to retire. The catch 22 of sports. Hopefully they work something out and both sides are happy.

If i was Trouba, i wouldn't give in to anything. The contract was mutually agreed to. Now, as a Rangers fan, do i think it's time to part ways? I absolutely do! I don't hate Trouba as a person but this is business.

How everyone here seems to ignore how awful this makes the rangers management look ...is stunning .. you cant believe every player in the league isn't watching how the rangers are treating their CAPTIN

I hope he does refuse to report because then his contract is null and void and he gets paid NOTHING

The 15 teams on his trade list are rumored to playoff teams. With some being currently 13 million over the cap. How many first round picks are you willing to send to the Devils for taking 50% of Trouba's contract? I'll start the bidding at 5 1st and 3 2nds.

It all comes down that the rangers can't keep paying for guy on other teams.
We need all that money to land the big fish.
Rangers need to start doing that.
So they can get younger players not old players that are always two steps behind.
    End of story.

The Wife wants to be a doctor. Not bad looking for a doctor. Who knows, maybe one day she'll "make me cough" I could deal with that as compensation for us not getting Trouba.

Im no longer a fan of JT. No self awareness to realize your play and pay are dragging the team down. Maybe time to retire if your wifes job is priority. He made enough to support his grandchildren

All defensemen need to be able to defend... The Rangers don't have a legit dman on the roster. Fox plays like a woman and backs in and pokes at pucks.... He is useless along the boards and in front of the net.

Exactly the Rangers' problem last year.

I agree. But Fox is a playmaker offensive defenseman. It's good to have a few of those too. But you have to also have 3 or 4 defenseman that will punish you every time you think of parking in the crease. With you on that.

If the Rangers were to trade Trouba to a team not on his no-trade list, he has the legal right to refuse to report to that team. He can't be forced to play if he refuses. But he would be in breach of contract of course, and he wouldn't get paid and his contract would be terminated. His NHL career would be damaged if not over. If he is really indicating that he will take this position if traded, then he's doing it to scuttle any trade, on the assumption that no team wants to deal with such a situation. Is he just posturing? Is he willing to walk away from $8MM per year?

Bottom line, JT signed up for this day the day he became a Pro. He's no different than the thousands of other players that have gone through this in their career. If it's that big of a deal that you and your wife stay in New York, RETIRE. Time to put your big boy pants on and make the tough decision. Your wife's career is more important than yours at this point. If he doesn't want to leave 16 million on the table, suck it up buddy. You can put your wife's career on hold for a couple of years and play on an other team for 16 million. Sorry bud nobody feels sorry for you.
