Please ensure you add dental cover onto your parent's medical insurance when they travel abroad. Not all Travel Insurance providers will have that facility - but go with the one that does have it. Yes, it can cost you a bit more money but its worth it. It was very helpful for me when my mother suddenly chewed on a hard candy and randomly cracked a perfectly good molar -- very painful and needed surgery. And one time my Dad had a tooth abscess which was totally undetectable till we had x-rays done for him. If you go to add dental cover for parents who are mostly over 60yrs old then remember that the excess you pay on it will also be high --- but it wont be as high as the actually doctor's bill. So you win some and you lose some - both money and teeth that is :)

Bro, Did you ever have to use this insurance ? do you know someone who did and can you share their experience ? It is weird that these premiums are so much lower that what we get from our jobs (if you add what the employer pays to your premium).. also the deductibles there are much higher.. I have heard horror stories where providers listed as in-network did not accept the insurance or could not identify the person's member id number. There is certainly a difference between what we get and what visitor's get but the difference is not clear

This is true, and some plans cover that. If you need those, then make sure to buy the plan that covers those

How about the monthly medicines they take, can they carry quantity for all 6 months with bills ?
Yes, my parents got all 6 months medicine with prescriptions
Most important bring precription medicines from India more then 6 months quota as it is not easy to get it shipped.
Get full checkups done and bring copy of last reports.

Adding a "pre-existing condition" clause renders these so called health insurances useless. Most aging parents will have pre-existing conditions and most likely if they ever get sick in the US it will be because of the pre-existing conditions. Unless they are very adventurous and fracture their bones while skating for the first time.
I bought a united healthcare PPO policy with a max coverage of $75K for my mother. She looked healthy but has diabetes which is mostly controlled. She experienced breathing issues here in the US and turned out she had 95% blockage in one of her coronary arteries. The doctors placed a stent and total stay was less than 3 days. Insurance denied my $80K claim (ofcourse, due to pre-existing conditions) and now I am running here and there to arrange for money or apply for aid. Why am I telling all this? Because this is something most Indians living in the US are not aware or take it lightly. Unless you are a multi-millionaire, you are only one uninsured health emergency away from bankruptcy in the US.
Thanks for sharing, yes this is a common scam by the insurance companies but i have heard some success stories too. Hence i don't think it is completely wrong to buy a plan.
Yeah, I am not discouraging anyone from taking the insurance policy. Heck! I will take it again. But for most diseases, the claims will be denied. That's all.
