  • With the release of the newest "Fantastic Beasts" movie this week, I thought it would be fun to take another crack at stained glass. Since the title of the film is "The Secrets of Dumbledor", I decided it would be appropriate to recreate the Deathly Hallows symbol which Dumbledor had been obsessed with in his life as was discussed in "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. I chose to use the colors for each of the Hogwarts houses: yellow for Hufflepuff, green for Slytherin, blue for Ravenclaw, and red for Gryffindor.
I tried out our new glass grinder, the Gryphon Gryphette, for the first time and it really made fitting the glass together much easier. One challenge that presented itself that I had not encountered before was trying to solder in the wind. The apartment doesn't have a great place inside to solder and definitely doesn't have a ventilation system, which left me only the choice to do this outside. We were having a significant windstorm while I was making this stained glass pane which was cooling my iron and solder before I could get it flowing properly. If you are curious about what this was like exactly, please feel free to comment.

This looks awesome and the colors look so good!! I'm curious, is there anything you leant or did different from last time working with glass? Also, you scoring the glass in smaller pieces, was that to try and avoid unwanted cracks when cutting the main piece?

Thank you so much! I found that being able to grind on the glass pieces helped them to fit together better and also felt less like I would cut myself on them! This piece was my first with curved cuts which was a unique challenge. I was concerned that I would break the pieces in uncontrolled ways and scoring in stages helped to shallow the curve.
