Somehow this movie escaped me till only a few months ago. Its a masterpiece. The lack of music in scenes allows for echoes in hallways and footsteps to be piercingly loud. I loved every second of it.

Instead it was a 22 year old kid who randomly decided to let the clerk live. That's his whole point in the movie. Random acts of violence that aren't tied together except that they're random.
