My favorite Rooster Tail is the BumbleBee pattern in 1/8 th . Peace Brother 🕊️
Back when I used to go fishing all the time, I used to have really good luck with a red and black Rooster Tail. It's been long enough ago that I don't remember what weight it was. But it was a bass slayer in my uncle's farm pond.
Never tried red and black, but I may need to sometime. Thanks for watching!
Yes one of the greatest spinners of all time. But, they used to be better, before they started making them overseas. The quality of the hook was better, and they put a more durable coating on the hackle winding thread. So, to get the best use out of them now, I lacquer the thread winding before I use them, keeps them from falling apart so quickly. Advantage over a Mepps, is that the hackle is tied to the wire shaft and not the hook. So, if the hook breaks, you can replace it without disturbing the hackle - just open the eye on a single hook (try Mustad 3366) and close it down on the wire loop, to make a single hook version. The treble hook they use on the new ones, especially the smaller sizes, is not very good quality any more (barb is way too big and they don’t stay sharp).
Nice video! 1/16 for trout streams. 1/8 for creeks & ponds. Brown trout, black with silver blade, and chartreuse work the best for me.
i like the white 1/8 oz
I have a bunch of Roostertail’s in various sizes but don’t fish with them that often. White with a silver blade has probably been the best color and I’d go with a 1/16 oz. if I could only have one.
A few people have said the same size and color. I think 1/16 white and silver may be the winner
I been fishing for a couple decades and never caught a fish on a rooster tail, but then again, I only have like two of them and they lying around somewhere so it's not the little bastards have been in the water to catch me anything. I think they are overrated lures and not even the best spinners. Mepps is better
U can catch Bluegills on tiny roostertails super easy.
yeah white and silver is the way to go I get the most bites on that color
@@Brockleejohnson If you really want to catch more carp, I recommend you use leftover pickled pigs feet or the chitlins that be on the stove at big momma's house.
for me the best is a 1/6th in fire tiger color for multispecies. have caught lots of bass, perch, and bluegill on that lure
That’s a good one! I’ve used it and caught a bunch on it
Love a rooster tail, always catches fish.
1/16-1/6 is fav. Sizes to play. Black, Pink or White. I change out treble hooks with appropriate size siwash hooks, rarely loose a fish only trout when barb is smashed down (Rarely) no other species. And they don't get tangled in tackle box.
The way the rooster tails move in the water is mesmerizing. Fish can’t resist. I like 3/8 black
catch the turtle and have some soup eh?🤣🤣🤣🤣
My favorites are white 1/16 and black in small water
Yellow, with black banding
My favorite rooster tail is a 1/6 ounce all white because it looks like a minow
1/8oz. Grey minnow and skunk are my favorite
My favorite is the 1/16 ounce firetiger for color for ponds and lakes
That’s a good one! Thanks for watching!
I have actually never had luck with a rooster tail. So, I have no favorite.
You ought to give them another shot! They can work really well!
Rooster tails is the only thing ive caught on, its all about switching the retrieve speeds and alternating speeds during the retrieve.
@cheese1445 tried that still no luck. :( Tried a few days after my post even. Tried a couple different colors even.
If u go to where a bunch of bluegills are and use a tiny roostertail, you should catch them on that, if interested in blues. Yellow and gold color works best.
Nice video looks very peaceful and relaxing.
@@ssei2001 thank you! It’s hard to beat the peace that fishing provides!
The 1/16th caught big fish and castes good.
Great vid!
@@Kentuckytacklebox-g3k thanks!
I like the 1.8 oz yellow great video
you've upgraded from the lifetime. i haven't seen a video from you in a long time.
@@effinericsloan thank you!
great video and great fishing Aaron! haven't try that rooster tail before, might try it soon. have a good day and week.
Thanks, you too!
@@AaronsOutdoor1 your welcome
3/8oz white flash is my go to. I’ve emptied the shelves at Walmart a few times when I find them. Late winter through mid spring around here, it’s the hot color when white bass are running.
I’ve gotten get up in TN when the white bass are running. I’ve never really caught any white bass
@@AaronsOutdoor1 John and I found a place this past winter that was loaded with them but has since been piled up with trash.
Nice hat buddy! 😂
Haha
I love fishing rooster tails. When bass or if I want to catch a fish. I tie one one. My favorite is silver and black 1-6 - 1/8 is my favorite sizes.
I oftentimes find Rooster Tails to be a little too finicky, like you have to yank them through the current or water just right to get them thumping.
That being said, I still throw them in rivers, perfect spinner profile to get down and pull through a current nicely.
Yeah, sometimes they can be a little annoying when they aren’t spinning right, but they still catch a lot of fish!
i like 1/6 and i have no favorite color but if the water is clear i like to use the color you were using for the first 2 if it isn’t clear i like to use either orange pick or blue
I throw 1/6 ounce Rooster Tails. I switch out the treble with Owner # 4 single hooks. My favorite colors are firetiger/ gold blade, white/ silver blade, and pink, silver blade.
What about the ones for musky
you gotta get a 1/2 ounce rooster tail
@@MagnifiedFN-md6ku yeah, I’ll have to try one out
I have a silver 1/2 oz rooster tail that I like to use
Roostertails are my favorite lure. Recently, I've caught a lot on yellow 1/8. And the occasional yellow/green/red 1/8. I've tried quite a few other colors, but only yellow has gotten blue gill, bass (both large and small), and crappies.
I used yellow the other day and caught a handful of different species!
@@AaronsOutdoor1 I wish i knew why, but I'm just going with it. In the past (like in the early 1980's) I had a TON of success with rainbow trout with black. This was in the rockies. But now in the mid west, yellow?
1/8oz Glitter white with the gold spoon(glitter paint on one side of spoon) 🤌 , 1/6oz Fire Tiger with the gold spoon 👌
Try a snagless sally. It’s basically a rooster tail with a single hook instead of a treble hook
You can get those on tackle warehouse
Although I like the Rooster Tail and have caught many, many bass and bream on them, I have to admit a preference to the Mepps Spinner. Pretty much the same but the blacks and yellows in the Mepps seem to do better and the 2 smallest ones work super well on a 7/8 flyrod.
Multiple people have commented about Mepps. I think I’ll have to try some. Thanks for watching!
I think my local pond has the same problem as yours. Only ever smallish bass all the time and the other day as I was reeling one in I looked up and saw a person in a biohazard suit doing something with the water. Biologist? Idk. But later that day a fisherman told me yeah something's wrong with the pond, he just didn't know what exactly.
Used them. Never caught the first fish on a Rooster Tail.
When bass arent biting and so you become a multi species fisherman
You ought to give them another shot! They can work really well!
so youre talking about throwing them out. are you just putting them in another lake/pond or what?
White, black, chrome I've caught just about everything with them
Solid black 1/16 oz and 1/6oz
Black works great!
I have caught big bass on roster tail and on 1/16 ozes.
Its the lighti g that bites good fishing
i like the old roostertails my grandpa gave me it was like a darker brown
I’ve used a little dark brown one since I filmed this video, and it was working really well river fishing!
@@AaronsOutdoor1 nice to hear. Ive always caught something on that color pattern. Its nice to know it works somewhere else to
Rooster tails are my favorite bait and I’ve been a avid fisherman for 20 years lol
Yeah, they’re hard to beat if you just want to catch some fish!
@@AaronsOutdoor1 for sure
The one 1/6 oez is and good color.
My favorite color is called
Luminous Yellow. And the only place I can sometimes get it is Amazon I really like it in the 3/8 oz
I caught a 6 pound catfish on a rooster tail a few days ago
Nice! They will catch just about anything!
Your missing the pike one
Firetiger. That's it. LOL!
Haha, firetiger is a good one!
Great video Aaron. I like the 1/16 oz white and silver but have never tried black but will now. I couldnt tell did those bass have big heads that didnt match the body size? I used to fish a pond that was full of bass with 5lb heads on 2lb bodies. Way over populated. God bless my friend keep it up.
Yeah, white and silver is a good one! And yeah, the bass can definitely seem like their heads are too big when they are so skinny and overpopulated in ponds like this one
1/16 black and yellow!
You can pretty much catch every fish withthe rooster tail 1/4oz White & Silver takes the cake. New Sub!
That’s a good one! I caught my biggest rooster tail fish ever after filming this video on that exact one. It’ll be in an upcoming video. Thanks for subscribing!
My favorite rastertail is all Colors and for bass I would lije tge biggest you could get for trout 1/16th
Good video man,
Thanks!
If so many fish in the pond or lake, they gonna take anything you throw in there.
It’s easier fishing than a lot of places
1/8 yellow with gold.
Yellow is a good color!
I like the silver 1/16oz
That’s a good one!
Pink. Any size.
Pink is a good one!
Black with silver blade
That’s a good one!
Mepps 1/18 yellow get a fish almost every cast no joke
I’ve hardly ever used a Mepps. I need to give them a shot!
@@AaronsOutdoor1 hopefully be worth a video
Chartreuse 1/8 either gold or Chartreuse blade
My favorite two colors and size 1. White 2. Yellow. Size is 1/8 oz and 1/4 oz please 👍
1/8th oz brown trout color
Its that color.
Black and silver 1/16
1/8 in trout or black fly
1/16 Grasshopper color
Never tried it, but seems like it would do well!
You have and masses of little bass
When you clipped it onto a swivel I threw up…
Lol, why?
I've tried different sizes & colors of rooster tails from Walmart but haven't had any luck with catching anything. Any tips & tricks?
Hello ! What are your best two size and what are your best six colors of the wordens rooster tail that you would recommend me to buy for catching crappies and shells crawler and bluegill and red ear and bass please. I will be doing nothing but casting from the bank only with the wordens rooster tails. May the Lord be in your heart today to answer all of my questions and may the Lord bless you and your family and your UA-cam channel in 2024 please 🙏
1/8oz and 1/6oz might be my two favorite. Silver, firetiger, yellow, black, brown, and chartreuse are all good colors!
Definitely get rid of those turtles asap maybe even some cats if you have to many can take a lot of food out if you want more food in the pound and also your repeat yourself a shit ton
Should’ve wet your hands before handling the fish. For their health.
Blink dude! You look inhuman the way you stare so intently into the camera.
