Same old shit for years. I was blessed when I went to deaf school (I’m very profound deaf) I’m very concerned about mainstreaming schools in rural area.. many deaf students WITHOUT interpreters are at mainstreaming schools. Have to stop mainstreaming schools without interpreters. No accessible!
Richard Miller, I went to mainstream school with the certified interpreters for two years and then, got over with it. However, in Nevada, we have no deaf school. Sent the deaf kids to the deaf schools in other states ie, WA, ID, and UT. CA mandated for parents or guardian to live in so the kids can go to the CSD in Fremont or Riverside. I was not sure about OSD but I heard the rumor that OSD was not good though. 🤷♂️ In other states that have deaf schools, I don’t know what their rules are about admission at deaf schools or what? I think deaf kids should go to deaf schools for their educational needs. Hard of hearing kids can go either deaf or mainstream schools 🙂👍
I had a language Deprivation. Because Ihad speech therapy when I was in mainstream school. My teacher was not enough well and also my parent too. I went to Gallaudent University, I failed my English. I findo out my IQ had 100 which mean reading was 68 and number and visually shape was 106 . that is meaning is good average for me. But the reason is that they need to give ASL for all deaf and hard of hearing children to help developments learning better reading to help you become more better understand the communication
I research about Total Communication. It was so risky because I had bad sign language, poor English, and a lack of speech in a mainstream school when I grew up there. My parents spoke Spanish and didn’t even know how to sign language. I looked like I was a language deprivation. I wish they chose Cued Speech or Auditory/Oral for me instead of Total Communication.
I know but you're 20s-30 because old cochlear implants aren't enough sound. Today every new cochlear implant has been improved sound and excellent quality than them
I can’t stand people who are trying to make us LSL in long run we deaf still use ASL MORE THAN LAL. I come from hearing family and they put me in LSL but in my long run isn’t that good cuz I can’t keep up with lip reading or abilities to understand what anyone is saying. Better off to keep ASL THROUGH TO THROUGH NOW MATTER WHAT!!!! Period

Am I missing something?” He is right because most deaf people couldn’t understand that closed captioning “illiteracy”. ASL is not great to teach deaf children or a bad education because they struggle how to read sentences. I am still unhappy if ASL exists in some public schools except deaf schools. Hopefully, cued speech will teach them instead in the future. Sigh poor deaf children 😢 STOP TEACHING SIGN LANGUAGE. CUED SPEECH IS THE BEST CHOICE INSTEAD! Sign language is risky because I remember a doctor gave me her note-taking and she wrote “Are you upset”. I didn’t know what a word was but I was 11. That’s a HUGE disappointment. My public school had a bad education, sign language is not English, and DELAY speech. I tried to encourage them to cued speech instead. There are new technologies such as cochlear implants and hearing aids, so sign language is not necessary for deaf children right now. By the way, today is 2024 not the 1800s. ASL is beautiful but it should NOT be taught to deaf children unless teenagers or adults because they will be illiterate if they can't read or have difficulty writing English maybe. I need to fix that timeline. Thanks for understanding.
@Alex , Thank you for explaining to talk about concern problem with ALCU-De situation of time and Understanding clearly the viewer point is not right. I will check up on the DOJ for find which one is good or no good On Board of education in Delaware area to find out something that would happen. What are terrible for the Delaware deaf school, deaf love ASL but speak up to them not perfect like low/high. Me too I speak loud, hearing people asked me why loud talk, that's from oral school, no ASL allows, after graduated, deaf people makes fun of me as alligator, then I learn ASL from deaf club, anyway I do both speak/ASL as not perfect, not easy!🥴 As for ASL is like picture, beautiful.🤟

I hold a different viewpoint on LSL. While it emphasizes speaking and listening skills, I take pride in being deaf. My love for ASL stems from its inherent beauty - it's the most captivating language I've encountered. For those who are deaf and proficient in ASL, the significance of using it over English becomes apparent. Let's refrain from imposing LSL on deaf children; it doesn't seem to be as effective. ASL, with its visual richness, provides a profound understanding and a great means of communication BACK OFF LSL! LET BE ASL IN AND TEACH CHILDREN AND THIER FUTURE BETTER! I strongly advocate for deaf children to attend deaf schools as a crucial step in their development. Deaf children learn ASL rapidly in deaf schools, and this quick acquisition is pivotal for their future communication skills.
I agree with the complaint. All "deaf" children should be helped to try to learn to speak. There's a community of death people who feel that speech is not for them and that there is nothing lacking in being deaf. Ok. But eachh child should be treated as an individual with the potential to gain back their hearing. Most deaf individuals can hear partly. Only mature adults are capable of deciding to limit their potential to never using spoken language. Deciding for a child is like deciding what the child's religion will be for them. But without the means to leave that religion as a grown-up. Trapped because the potential to learn speech will be diminished by then. We have accomplished incredible hearing recovery in the medical field. I have a friend with hearing loss whose parents did not send her to the death school and now, as an adult she is grateful and has normal speech and hearing implants. Do not limit children to less than their full potential, please.
Listening and Speak Language will help deaf children to learn? I do not think so. If a child is profound deaf therefore send to deaf school that will have opportunities to learn ASL and socialize with other deaf children very helpfully. If a child is able to hear the sounds and voice as hard of hearing with %of decibel, can be able to learn how to speak or pronounce proper vowels and consonants better. I had been through with speech therapy when I was little toddler then went to deaf school I suddenly picked up fast and learned fast I was glad that I did at deaf school.
