I got my first Mariniere (Breton striped top) 44 years ago when I was a college student. I still remember buying it, from Marimekko in Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. I lived in that top all through university and for years afterward, and since then have always had at least one or two in my wardrobe. I loved it with my dark-wash, stovepipe jeans, burgundy wool bomber jacket and suede, heeled mules. They are so classic, but always look fresh and modern because of their simple, graphic design. I love the V-neck, buttoned cardigan look worn with a silk neck scarf, too.
You described the top and story of it so beautifully Kimberly I felt I was back there buying it with you. There's something very special about a piece of clothing that has history to it and you still remember buying and loving.

Despite wide legged jeans and pants being on trend, we have to admit that they hang on top of the shoes and give the outfit a frumpy look. We can see the difference when the same outfit is worn with slimmer trousers; it looks more polished... in my humble opinion.

I notice that trench coats seem to be featuring in all the shops here and I am loving the idea of a cropped trench. Fortunately I picked up a classic trench recently. Hey Gemma, the first 2 outfits suit you the best, I think. 😊 But please don't forget to put "AD" on the screen while presenting Goelia fashion. I' m pretty sure it is a paid partnership? Goelia, as a chinese brand like Lilysilk is entering the european market for quite a while now and is sending fashion pieces to lots of influencers for them to present.....

UPDATE: Very disappointed in the shirt😢 There is extra fabric in the side seam where it meets the sleeve making a very noticeable bulge. after waiting so long for the slow boat from China, I was eager to wear it. Instead, I'm returning it.

Hi Gemma, unfortunately I wouldn't purchase anything from Goelia due to the high cost of shipping and returns and from what I've heard the fit wouldnt be great for me being tall but you looked lovely in everything x

It is a shame the navy denim dess has large pockets sewn on TOP of the dress...this flatters NO one.
Agreed, a pet peeve that designers do this to make manufacturing cheaper at the expense of a woman's silhouette. Even worse is this year's denim jeans trend to put patch pockets right atop the front of the hips. Unflattering on even the slim-est of women.

Yes I made this comment som ewhere too ...large patch pockets on hips. jeans, skirts, dresses are terrible on anyonemImthink ...it distracts the eye and you want the eyendrawn to you BET feature. Maybe veyr young women or those with too small hips cannuse them for camouflage but not the rest of us. Patch pocket also emphasize the breasts I like sporty safari jackets but the patch pockets are small and usually I dont but in the jackets...these are short sleeve for summer. I am a size 8 petite with an hourglass body so it is my waist I want to emphasize not the hips or breasts.
We have to dress for the body we have. I used to be a size 18 I had undiagnosed hyperthyroidism for years...I even went to a diet dr. And got Rx 2 decades ago and it did take weight off but it came back half my thyroid was destroyed by my body...now I have HYPOthyroidism and am on thyroid meds for life...not something to be wished for to be a lower size.
